This thread is for stupid GAMING questions that don't deserve their own thread

I can't answer that, but I can tell you the Mirror's Edge DLC is amazing, and it's not on the Steam version, so you're better off getting it on Origin and adding it as a non-Steam game regardless probably.

Can you play virtual console games on the Wii with a wii remote or do you need the classic controller?

You can play NES and some other games VC systems with just the Wii Remote... but, for example... SNES games requires more buttons than the ones the Wii Remote has, so you need a Classic Controller for those games.

How do I deal with a remainder of 60 points on XBLA? I have 360 points. not enough to get a game, not interested in avatars and stuff.

I don't know. I've been stuck with 60 extra points since December!

Can someone post a trustworthy source where it says that sony lost more money with ps3 than they gained with the ps 1 and 2 combined, googled without success, so I kinda doubt it ... is it really true ?!

Also, I have read in the Metro 2033 thread that the budget of that game was like 4Mio dollar... seriously, some PSN/Xlive arcade games have a higher budget, sure it's an ukrainian developer and 4 mio is lot over there (a cola costs like 0,15 euro cents in ukraine) but even as a half italian/ukrainian I really doubt that. So what was the real budget for this game ? Any sources ?

Here's a stupid "Which game should I get?" post:

1. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow

2. Shadows of the Damned

3. Alice: Madness Returns

4. Vanquish

5. Enslaved

6. Donkey Kong Country Returns

Everyone who said Vanquish was absolutely in the right it turns out. I can't believe I've gone this long without playing it. It's intensely satisfying in every conceivable way.

I ended up getting Castlevania as well, but I'm too caught up in Vanquish to pop it in.

Nice. Glad you're enjoying it. Its one of those games I wish more people knew about. Now play Enslaved!!! :)

More specifically you can play every system's games but SNES and N64 with just a Wii Remote. I don't think they've released any Genesis games that need the six button pad. You can play some but maybe not all Neo-Geo games with just the Wii Remote.

I'm not sure if this belongs in a different thread or not but it really only has to do with one game so this thread should be fine. I've been looking to get a new computer for a while and a laptop is preferable to me. Considering I'm getting a 360 soon, most games that I would play on PC are on the 360 so I'll just buy them for the 360. The one game I want to be able to run good is Minecraft. Does anybody know of a laptop that would be able to run it on max settings easily? I'm not looking for a real high end laptop since that's the only game I would play on it. Thanks in advance.

In Final Fantasy 7, are there any benefits to equipping more than one of the same materia?

Don't think so. The only materia you should really be using multiple of is still stuff like All.

The Wii Motion Plus attachment is currently $8.39 on amazon.

I need one to play Skyward Sword, but does it ever go for cheaper than this?

Don't forget to factor in the additional $7.99 it costs for shipping.

Who loses out when a game is discounted heavily? We know the breakdowns in terms of percentages each party gets for a full priced game, ie publishers, developers, retailer, etc all getting a set percentage. When a game bombs and it can be had for 20 bucks a month after release, does the retailer absorb the loss, or is everyone effected in proportion?

I let my Xbox Live Gold account expire, thus reverting my profile to free/Silver. Will I still be able to purchase in-game DLC or would I need a Gold account to do that? I'm looking to purchase some new songs for Dance Central.

You can purchase DLC/songs with a Silver account.

PS3/PSN questions

I bought an asian version of Uncharted 2 (GOTY edition) which comes with a voucher w/c I can use to download some DLC (avatar packs, Eye of Indra comic, skins, ect). I realize that I need to sign for an asian PSN account in order to download the stuff. However, I believe the PS Store for asia is still down.

Can I still sign up for an asian account and get my DLC?

Who own the rights to James Pond?

I thought Sony would have inherited it with their acquisition of Millennium Interactive (Cambridge Studios), but see that a new PoS has recently been released for iOS "James Pond in the Deathly Shallows". I now also see that James Pond 2: Robocod got remade for GBA and NDS in 2005.

Edit:

Asian PS Store should be up, if Hong Kong store is still down try signing up with one of the smaller ones like Malaysia or Thailand, they're both in English.

What's the easiest, quickest, most convenient way to use my profile, game saves and XBL gold account on two different Xbox 360s in the same house using the same network?
The current 360 is an original model with removable HDD. The second 360 hasn't been bought yet.

Haven't done it with game saves, but with your xbl account you can just move it over to a flash drive and you'll be able to plug that into any box and play on your tag.

Cloud saving is coming soon so it will probably be the easiest to transfer saves that way.

It's worth noting that a Gamecube controller also works as a suitable replacement for a CC. One should always go with a CC whenever possible (especially Pro), but in a pinch, these are functional and readily available on the cheap.

Didn't think I should make a new thread on this, a month or so ago there were deals where you could get a HDD 360 for only 200 I think? If you bought from Amazon you could get 100$ credit or something like that. Anyway does anyone know if/when another deal like that will happen in the future? Or the best places to get deals on a 360 in general? I'm somewhat hesitant about getting one off ebay (not used) because you never know if they're selling a used one as new or something.

Also if I don't plan on playing online or playing XBLA games do I need the hard drive? I do want to get some DLC though like Alan Wake for example i'd buy the DLC but I don't know if the 4gb is enough for that. It sucks that you can't just get a 4gb console and then put your own separate hard drive, either internal or external (unless you can?)

Isn't EXACTLY a gaming question. BUT does anyone know if Camtasia records audio from the screen? I want to record screen audio, don't know what to use. Anybody have an idea

I simply keep my profile on a USB stick. It's not great, but it works.

AFAIK:
You can recover a gamertag off live, but it is treated like a 'latest version' copy of your account. So if you log in on a different 360 then the recovered tag will be out of date and you would need to recover the tag again. It's a slow process (gamertag can store save games I believe - so it can get pretty big), which is why the USB key seems to be the best option (or just have a second account as well).

As mentioned, the next update will apparently bring cloud based gamertags - so hopefully it should only be a temporary problem.
Be warned that some games prevent you from transferring save games. (GRRR!)

Why did my graphics card just suddenly die? I was playing a low-intensive game and my screen went black. No warnings, no sounds. I noticed that in other games recently it would randomly just terminate and exit out of them a few times. Granted, it's from an obscure Asian manufacturer (Sparkle), but why would it just die like that out of nowhere? EDIT: The answer to this was: dust! it's fixed and I'm happy.

Is it normal for my PSP to make a weird whirring noise while I play games on it? It was my cousins' and their dog beat it up quite a bit, but I want to know if this is normal. It's one of the older ones.

Usually the publisher, the big box stores 'demand' comarketing dollars to cover these sort of discounts and there's all sorts of other dodgy deals where the store will take the discount against their purchase price and put it on their account with the publisher to make the /next/ round of games they buy cheaper.

The older the game, the more likely it's the retailer. But yeah, those $20 off discounts a couple of weeks after launch are the publisher taking a hit off whatever the difference is between the trade price & the sale price, to allow the retailer to shift the stock.

Yeah, retail sucks.

Further to this question, my mind was blown by a port of this game on DS. In order to satisfy my mindless nostalgia, I had a curious peek on ebay. Can anyone explain why there are two different cover arts on seemingly legit European copies of the game?

In pre-rendered games like the Resident Evil games on PS1 (or the ones on Gamecube for that matter) how is the polygon usage for the game? Lets say the PS1 had a max. of 500.000 polygons, did they in for instance Tomb Raider (which is full 3D) put 20.000 in Lara and the rest in the enviroments. How did this compare to the RE games? The characters in them didn't look like they had 500.000 polygons in them :P

Where can I keep track of PSP sales on the PSN Store? I used to buy games on almost a weekly basis on my Go because of sales, then the hack came along and I forgot where I used to track the stuff that went on sale weekly.
