This thread is for stupid GAMING questions that don't deserve their own thread

Hello all. Just a question regarding tropico 4 Modern times on xbox...

For some stupid reason, it isn't available on the Australian marketplace (when its available in every other region known to man). If I buy the DLC from the American or European marketplace with one of my other accounts, will it work on my Australian account?

just bought borderlands goty edition for 360 that has the dlc on a separate disc. can i install them on a usb drive or do i need a hard drive? i don't have either at the moment, when i popped the dlc disc in it said it requires "hard drive" space.

Browsing Amazon and I came across a game I've literally never heard of. For me, that's rare. The only games I've never heard of are obscure Japanese ones.

Anyway, anyone else heard of this: "Omerta - City of Gangsters"?

From the screenshots and video, it actually looks kind of decent. But I've seen NOTHING on this. No E3 presentation, no trailers, no threads, nothing! For a game this unique? I'd have thought something would be out there.

Which system is Deus Ex: Human Revolution better on, PS3 or 360? I don't have Gold btw.

You can install the PS3 version and drastically reduce load times (and you can access the menu when the game forces loads in certain segments of the game which aided initial speedrunning attempts). In my opinion, the PS3 version looks better (I played on both 360 and PS3 but only in 720p).

Am I the only person who didn't realize Steam games have manuals?!

Of course. :P I am not a fan of the service. My husband uses it for Microsoft Flight, but now that that's dead, I'd like to buy him Flight Simulator X as a surprise, but I guess I'll have to do it from his account.

Yeah, from what I could gather by googling, once you buy a game via GFWL it is tied to your account, and there's no gifting option in GFWL.

Does anyone when Sony changed the build of the Dualshock 3? I've tried buying 3 dualshocks, 2 from Amazon and 1 from Target. The first two I thought were fakes. The plastic was cheap, the paint job was somewhat bad, and the feel of the controller was different. No more glossy handles, no weight, felt weird overall. So I bought one at Target, and although the paint job was better ... it was mostly the same.

I'm trying to replace the Dualshock that came with my original PS3 (2009 slim). Now I don't know where to look.

Whats the best way to play Final Fantasy 1-13 on relatively modern consoles in 2012?

FFI and FFII - There are so many versions: GBA, PSP, Wii VC, PSN (as a PS1 Classic), and iOS. I guess I'd recommend the PSP versions, but there's probably not much difference.

FFIII - DS is the only real option. It was ported to iOS too.

FFIV - Many options here. The DS version is my favorite, but there are mixed feelings about the new changes. Runner up would be the PSP version. Also on GBA and Wii VC.

FFV - GBA is the only real option. It's also available on PSN (as a PS1 Classic), but that is the inferior version.

FFVI - I'd go with GBA again, but it's also available on Wii VC and PSN.

FFVII, FFVIII, FFIX - All available on PSN

If you want to do this on the least number of platforms, then you'd need a PS3 with backwards compatibility, and a DS with backwards compatibility. I think that would cover everything.

Unless you use a PC to emulate other consoles, there isn't a perfect candidate.

PS Vita
Available now - 1, 2, 4,
Available in a month - 5, 6, 7, 8, 9
Available in September in Japan - 3
Announced - 10
Σ - 10 games

PS3
Available now - 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 13
With backwards compatibility model - 10, 11, 12
Σ - 12 games

PS2
Available now - 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12
Σ - 11 games

The lists above are for American systems. I don't think Final Fantasy I and II are available as PS1 classics on the European PSN store.

1 and 2 are on PSP, possibly PSN as PSOne Classics (I don't remembeR), and GBA. 1 is on the Virtual Console and also iOS as a remake.
3 will have to be the remake. That's on iOS and DS. The NES version never came out outside of JApan.
4 is on GBA and Wii Virtual Console and remade on PSP and remade in 3D on DS. Don't play the PSOne Classic on PSN.
5 is best on GBA. You can maybe play the PSN version if you want. I don't remember if it sucks or not.
6 is best on Wii Virutal Console. IT's also on GBA. DO NOT PLAY THE PSN VERSION THE LOAD TIMES ARE ARTROCIOUS
7, 8, and 9 are all on PSN as PSOne Classics and they're fine.
10 is only on PS2 for now. There's a HD remaster in the works for PS3 and Vita.
You can play 11 on PC.
12 is PS2 exlcusive with no announced plans for a port or remake.
13 is on PS3 and Xbox 360, obviously.

Things get a bit more complicated if you want to play the direct sequels.

11 is available for 360 and PS2 too, but you need a fat PS2 to play it (or a BC PS3), since the PS2 slim doesn't support the HDD addon.

Thanks for the help guys, so this is how I'll play them:

FFI&II - GBA
FFIII - DS
FFIV, V, VI - GBA
FFVII, VIII, IX - PSN
FFX - PS2
FFXI - PC
FFXII - PS2
FFXIII - PS3

If you've got a Wii I would strongly recommend going for FFVI on Virtual Console, especially if you are into the music at all. It's just not the same on GBA.

Has there been any hint as to when Nintendo is going to put Game Boy Advance games up on the 3DS Virtual Console? I'm THIS CLOSE to buying a 3DS, but some GBA games would definitely tip me over the edge.

Are the bonus content (Catwoman, Nightwing, Skins, other DLCs) in Batman: Arkham City GOTY on the actual disc? Or does the package come with a code to download the bonus content?

Thanks.

I got a LBP karting beta code from GT. it says I need a PSN master account. Is that a regular account?
A normal account you set up is a master account. You may have a sub account where someone (Usually parent/guardian) has a master account and then create a sub account for you because you are under 18. If you are now 18 it should be a master account. If you are not 18 yet then you need to make a fake account i guess that is over 18.

Really, GT could've just left out master. It's so pointless for them to even put that in there. If they had just said "regular account" I wouldn't even be asking this questions. It was for the instructions for redeeming the code on there Facebook. So, thank you for the answer.

Edit: another question

As far as old consoles go (in my case genesis, SNES, N64, GCN, Dreamcast, PS2) is it preferred to keep a SDTV or is it possible to make it look nice on a flat screen?

Yes, you can buy an upscale card e.g. XRGB3, but it will cost you $300. There are several different models so make sure you read up on the subject before you spend any money.

What does PAL stand for?

ie: I have Xenoblade Chronicles, PAL version

Phase Altering Line but basically means it's the European version of the game rather than the American (NSTC) version. Not a tech head but my understanding of the difference was that European TVs traditionally had a different standard than US (more lines, less half frames per second). Used to be more of an issue back in the day resulting in things like PAL versions of SNES games having to run with black borders to account for the extra lines.

Edit: Beaten more succinctly.

So, I really have an issue with my PS3. Stuff takes a long time to download. Constantly having issues logging in. Sometimes I can't log in at all while other times it takes forever. With that being said hooking up to the router is not an option. First of all the router is so far away from the PS3 and second of all I can't do a long ass ethernet cable because my parents are moving in roughly two more years so that is out of the question. With that being out of the way what are my options for getting a better, faster connection to my PS3?

Make sure you have the correct NAT settings. It should be NAT 2. It might also be good to put your PS3 in a DMZ. There are plenty of guides available if you Google for them.

in regards to better ps3 download speeds and such, if it's not a settings issue, look into Powerline Ethernet adapters. You have a small box you plug into an outlet next to the router, and plug an Ethernet cable into it from the router. Another box is at your ps3 and you take an Ethernet cable from it and plug it into the ps3. The internet signal travels over your power cables and gives you near wired speeds. They're pretty fantastic for hooking things up on the other side of the house from the router, and doesn't require any work to set up. I got mine for around $40 from newegg.

Thanks, I'll look into all of these things.

Hey, me and some friends are organizing a lan party, and I'd like to know if SSF4 Arcade edition is playable without being online at all times, or do I have to emss with teh code to let the game be playable without a constant connection to GFWL.

Thanks in advance.

Why do female characters keep getting younger? And why do they look young but happen to be older? I'm mainly referring to JRPGs.

So, I just checked. It says my signal strength is 67% for my PS3. Is that good or bad or fair? I'm gonna go for fair.

Fair sounds right.

So the two games that REALLY got me into online gaming.

Halo 3
CoD 4

Both are scratched to shit and I was wondering, I might as well try out a CoD game for PC. Does anyone know if CoD 4 is still active on Steam? Is it overrun with hackers?
