This thread is for stupid GAMING questions that don't deserve their own thread

Soo this might be a bit of a random question but would Valve mind if I lend my Steam account for a day to a close friend? I have a friend who wants to play Sleeping Dogs very bad but she doesn't have any money to spend on games till next month and since I'm away all day tomorrow I thought of letting her log into my account for that day. I'm just afraid if Valve might see it as a banable offense, does anyone have experience with this?
No, it's not allowed. "You may not reveal, share or otherwise allow others to use your password or account." You are, however, allowed to use your own account from multiple computers and there is no way for Valve to notice the difference. You should ask your friend to uninstall the client once she's done with it though.

So started playing steam version of Arkham asylum which is also GFWL.
I see I unlock achievements every once in a while, but for the life of me I cannot find the list of achivements on the pausemenu or on the gfwl overlay.

where is the list of achievemets? only in the main menu before starting the game?

go to your GFWL profile(press the xbox button on the controller), then press your games and click on Batman: AA GOTY. I literally just figured this out like an hour ago too haha.

I remember reading somewhere that reception was mixed among fans due to some changes. Is it still a valid option as someone who wants to experience MGS1 as 'authentically' as possible?

No. A lot of the added techniques like first-person aiming and leaning around corners gives too many advantages against the AI.

In Twin Snakes everyone is from the Matrix and love to do back flips and somersaults off of everything. The music was also changed.

If it wasn't for those two I would recommend it. I have no problem with the controls making it easier. Just play on Extreme.

I also don't like that they changed Cyborg Ninjas voice. The original had so much pain in it. Mei Lings voice is also different but it was done for the right reason.

I'd definitely recommend Twin Snakes over the original. I find it hard to go back to the original, actually, it just feels so clunky and outdated. You can ignore the new gameplay features in Twin Snakes if you really want.

1. Do I need to re-sync my Dual Shock to my PSP Go every time I want to use it or can I just shut everything down and have the connection saved when I start up again?

2. About to get rid of my launch OG Xbox. Any reason to be concerned with it having my still current gamertag and credit card info stored on it at this point?

How do people tend to record Let's Plays? I was interested in doing one of my own, but I'm not sure how people go about recording their voices while playing the games.

1. I don't own either of these things but this sounds like it would take maybe 5 minutes to test out for yourself if you have them.

2. I wouldn't think leaving either of them on there would be a good idea unless you plan to smash it to bitty pieces. Smashing is always a good idea regardless of anything else.

You're giving away your whole card to some 16yo kid at a counter to get cigarettes or whatever on a regular basis, so he could just swipe it twice without you noticing and you'd be boned, but you're afraid someone's gonna hack your XBOX? I don't know.
Just start the thing up and enter false data if you're concerned. It's probably outdated anyway (remember, credit cards have an expiration date).

Now I've updated the hard disk (and spent two days straight downloading everything I have stockpiled! Playstation Plus does bad things to bandwidth!) I can start to think to the future, and Christmas:

My parents have just bought an HDTV; I'm toying with buying a PS3 for them for Blu-Ray playerness and a little light gaming (that is, Mum adores Katamari Damacy and I suspect she'd take to LBP, too).

There are, however, a couple of considerations:

* They're in the middle of nowhere in France - their internet sucks. It's a satellite link with some very harsh metering (I *think* 2GB/month). Suffice to say, this is inconvenient! Online play is definitely out - but just how harsh a bandwidth hit is downloading LBP levels?

* If I were to take my hard disc to them, could I play the content from it on their PS3, or do I need the entire unit? It'd be much nicer to travel light! Included in that is PSPlus membership; do I need internet to verify that, or is possessing the HD sufficient?

Don't know if this is the right place to do this, but i've been searching for a while and couldn't find anything. I'm just gonna wing it. Should I get Dragon Quest IX? On the one hand, I do enjoy me a good JRPG and i've heard from many that this is a damn good one. On the other hand, I don't like that the main character and his team mates or whatever you wanna call them are custom-made. I know it sounds weird, but I hate making my own character. Whenever I do make my own character I immediately hate it and think it looks stupid. Character designing is paid position for a reason: you have to have skills to do it and I seem to lack that creativity. I really want to try out the DQ games and a lot of people have said this is the one to start with, but this whole custom-made characters thing is really big deal to me. What do, Gaf? Also, if anyone wants to point me to the real game suggestions thread (if there is such a thing) then I'd really appreciate it.

Honestly, I haven't played it. But I think it generally gets alot of praise. I know it has online components though, so I'm not sure how well they've held up.

This is the thread you're looking for though. It's pretty awesome.

I like Dragon Quest IX, but the lifeless custom-made characters hurt the story since I felt no connection to them. If you haven't played IV, V, and VI I suggest you do that first.

Thanks for the help, fellas. I guess I'll look into some of the other DS Dragon Quest games.

I, for one, always recommend Twin Snakes over the original.

Something I have always wondered about console games...

How come if you play a game in 480i you get the same frame rate as if you are playing the game in 1080p? Is it that the games are always being rendered (or whatever) at their native HD resolution and then the image is just shrunk to fit your TV? Is there any reason why they can't just do what PC games do?

Daft PS3 Audio question...

Whenever I'm watching dvd's / blue rays always need to crank the volume way, way up... is that normal or is there a setting that is good for adjusting?

Using HDMI cable for what it's worth.

This is a good question. The answer (for Xbox 360 at least) is that you aren't allowed to do it. A game I previously worked on would run at 60fps in 480p, but we could only achieve 30fps at 720p. We asked Microsoft about it, and they said it would fail certification. The reason being that the experience would be different for HD/SD users and that wasn't allowed.

Not sure about PS3.

Seems like a slightly strange reasoning, given that the experience has been different between NTSC/PAL users in the past, and was definitely different between HD/SD users in Dead Rising (in that HD users could actually *read* stuff). Heck, you could even extend the argument to say that people playing in *widescreen* had a different experience to those playing in 4:3.

That said, if that were to lead to synchronisation issues for multiplayer, I can see there being some logic to it, and something MS would want to avoid. However, some companies getting more leniency with certification than others is certainly nothing new!

A friend of mine has a mexican psn account. She wants to know if us psn cards work. I have no idea. Asked her what currency the store shows for their prices. She tells me its in $.

Wait, you can sync a DualShock 3 to a PSP and use it to play games? Or is this exclusive to the PSP Go?

US. Amazon is offering it all from third-party sellers and everyone's selling it for around $60 but it's a few months after launch so it feels like it's rare/OOP.

It was only ever available from Gamestop and directly from Nintendo in the US. You can still buy it on Gamestop's website.

Is quad-SLI a feasible option when building a PC specifically made for gaming? Or even regular SLI for that matter? Do enough modern PC games these take advantage of it to warrant investment in SLI?

Friend of mine bought a BC PS3 from hong kong and to his dismay cannot play his PS2 EU games. He hasnt made a PSN account yet though, so my question is : Is the PS2 region lock hardware or account specific?
