This thread is for stupid GAMING questions that don't deserve their own thread

What system's memory cards do you mean? For newer systems they are usually big enough, so you don't have to worry about save files taking up much space. For older systems I usually copy the ones I don't need to my PC.

Ah, on Gamecube I have a big enough memory card that keeps all my saves (I don't have as many GC games, though). On PS2 and PSX I copy them to my PC and sort them there.

Why does Mario have a yellow cat suit instead of a red one in 3D World? Luigi, Toad and Peach all have matching coloured suits, why not Mario?

If a 3DS comes preloaded with a game (i.e. the 2DS with Pokemon X loaded on it) can I transfer what I have on my 3DS to that without overwriting Pokemon?

I live in the US but have been debating about importing one of the colored slim Vitas from Japan.

Is there anything I should be aware of? Do some menus have the X and O inputs flipped?

Or would setting it to the US region be 1:1 with a US Vita?

You might want to PM a mod and ask them if you can create a new thread for this since many people might not see it otherwise. You could also try posting in the Buy/Sell/Trade thread in the Gaming Community forum. (I'm in Vermont or I'd try to help you out.)

Excellent. could you please link me to a mod and that thread?

do you have any of those games my friend?

Here is a mod online to PM:

What are some good grips for the original 3DS so it will comfortable to use and also allow for good access to the d-pad? I want something to make playing more actiony games and 2D games with the d-pad.

Could someone please explain the different types of AA to me? SMAA, SSAA, FXAA, TXAA, MSAA, MLAA, SGSSAA etc... I can never remember which type does what, the pro's and con's of each, which ones to avoid and which ones to use...

This one's been on my mind: How come the budgets for video games are not made public? One can easily look up the budget for a film.

Sure, we may occasionally here such and such game cost 80 million to make. But why aren't these numbers more readily available?

You can try this thread (and Durante's article within) though it's not focused around performance.

Aren't movie budgets kinda bullshit though? Both in terms of being vague estimations and the companies putting numbers to make it seem like they made less money than they really did. I remember some of that stuff coming out when the VFX company for Life of Pi was stiffed their payment and went under.

I imagine game budgets are obfuscated for similar reasons, to make it easier to frame how well a publisher is doing.

I have the Borderlands 2 GOTY edition. Should I wait until after beating the main campaign before tackling any of the DLC or does it not matter if I play it during?

You should finish the main game first, since some of the jokes in the DLCs make references to the story up to the end. But you can play them at any time. The Big Game Hunt DLC won't actually make much sense if you play it before finishing the main game, too.

What is the absolute cheapest way to play Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty online with my friends?

Buy a used cd key on eBay? Used disc version?

Has anyone here been having problems with Xbone DVR clips not saving? I recorded four clips earlier and only one is actually saved in my clips but the notification icon shows I recorded four, anyone experience this lately?

I'm finally getting a 3DSXL or a 2DS. Are there any good retail deals happening now? Or soon? Is there a thread that keeps track of all this stuff?

I missed the $99 2DS deal and their normal prices feel kinda absurd to me.

Is there any sort of cable that will let me attach my PSP to my laptop and download a game from Media Go to my PSP? I'm asking as I can no longer get my PSP online.

How difficult is it to design good controls for a game in this day and age? For instance, when I tried the recent Risen game, I was immediately put off by its controls. Is it naive of me to expect that quality controls shouldn't be difficult to design nowadays?

Ok. I need to know if sonic's hair is hair or is it spikes.

...or are they giant fins. Like will they prick you if you touch them or are they just for aerodynamics????

Also sonic's eyes. He doesnt have 2 eye balls.. he seems to have one eyeball and two iris??? How is this possible?

If it was easy then everyone would do it. Good controls are also partly subjective. The heavy feel of the movement in Killzone 2 was appreciated by some and hated by others.

What's wrong with the controls in Risen?

Hey everyone,

So I recently bought Super Mario Bros. 3 for my 3DS. Fantastic game but I'm having some issues with it... As I progress through a map, if I am going any faster than a slow walk, the fade-in (I don't know what to call it) looks just terrible. Here is a picture:

This picture may not look too bad but it chops in and out, so every half a second it looks like that and the next half a second it looks normal. It really takes away from the experience. I should add that I have been experiencing similar problems playing Earthbound on my Wii U (more noticeable on my Gamepad than my TV, could small screens be the culprit?). Makes me want to just pop my SNES cart in but last time I did my progress erased when I was hours away from completion.

Started playing Skyrim recently, and am currently level 4. I'm going for a jack-of-all-trades type character, with Light Armor, One Handed, Stealth, Destruction, Alteration, and Restore. However, I've got a few questions.

First of all, is it better to dual-wield in this game or is it better to carry a shield? I'm thinking shield, because I seem to really suck with two weapons. Should I keep a shield for now and wait until I invest some points into One Handed to get the Dual skills?

Secondly, is lockpicking worth investing in? I'm pretty good at it, but it seems kind of pointless as there's almost always someone in the house and it immediately causes some yahoo to come and try to arrest me. Either that or I can lock pick a case while stealthing, but it still triggers as 'crime' and the soldier shows up. How am I getting a bounty increase if I'm not visible?

Next, I've heard conflicting reports about leveling up. Is it bad to 'power level' as it were? I'm not interested in leveling up for HP, Magicka, etc. I'm interested in raisting certain skills, like Stealth and my spells. If I boost these skills am I going to be screwed because I cannot afford quality armor and weapons?

Finally, is Oblivion still worth playing after this one? Only thing I've seen in it that I would dislike is breaking weapons. Otherwise, it looks just as fun.

Hasn't SMB3 always done that? I can't remember it ever NOT doing that in some levels.

Yep. SMB3 on the NES was always like this. So it's technically a perfect emulation. = P

How do I go about transfering all my stuff from one vita card to another? I bought a 8 gig since my 4 gig was full and I have a game, pictures and saves that I need to carry over.

Also, is it still true I can tie a JP account to the 4 gig and download demos and stuff there? If so how do I do that?

I don't know what the fuck a Goat Simulator is, because it sounds so fucking stupid that I'm determined not to click on any article that contains those two words.

Goat Simulator basically is a "fuck-around" game. There's a score mechanic based on licking things, headbutting things, landing tricks (flips and spins), and triggering some special events (like hitting a fireworks rocket or destroying the gas station), but you can have fun just jumping off things, baaa-ing at everything and exploring the city, finding the "Golden Goat" trophies.

Once again, I can't tell if my PC specs meet the requirements for a game, I just am not tech savvy enough to be able to compare some numbers or devices. This time it's Steins;Gate which I think I can run considering it's a visual novel and not something crazy. It's the processor and video card I can't tell, can someone tell me if I can run this game?

Game requirements:
Windows XP (32-bit only) / Vista (32-bit only) / 7 / 8
CPU: (Required) Pentium 4 / (Recommended) Pentium 4 3GHz, Core2Duo
Harddrive Space: 3.0GB
Monitor Resolution: 1024 x 768
Graphics: 64MB VRAM, DirectX 9.0c

My PC:
Windows 7 Home Premium
Processor: AMD Athalon II X4 645 Processor 3.10 GHz
Memory: 6 GB (5.75 GB usable)
Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 4200, DirectX 11 (Integrated video card, approx total memory 2940 MB)
Hard Drive: I have like 100 GB open

Your computer is way more powerful than the requirements. Is the game out in English?
Awesome, thank you. I've been wanting to buy or build a gaming pc for a few years now so I don't have to worry about min specs

I think the game is out? There was a delay but I find the lack of am OT here odd
