This thread is for stupid GAMING questions that don't deserve their own thread

What are Amiibos used for?
They are mainly collectibles for Nintendo fans. You can currently also use them to unlock skins in Mario Kart 8, unlock weapons/money/items in Hyrule Warriors, and special opponents in Super Smash Bros. Since there is currently limited support for Amiibos and strange limitations I have decided to not get any myself.

if i buy geometry wars 3 for xbox one, would that also let me download and play the 360 version, or do i have to buy the 360 version separately? i'm asking because i'm getting an xbox one soon but i really, really want to play geometry wars 3 right now

Another Wii U question then :) I played MK8 last night for the first time and I really want one now. Could I play MK8 with my gf if I have the Wii U gamepad and some old wiimotes or do I need new peripherals? Come to think of it, maybe the wiimote has too few buttons...

No, I think it's compatible with classic Wiimotes. The person using the Wiimote will have to play with motion controls though, unless you have a Nunchuk.

They don't actually have to use motion controls. There is a toggle on the pause screen for non motion and motion, where you can use the dpad to steer.

Is Hyrule Warriors ok for a 6 year old? His current favorites are Smash Bros, Pokemon Y, WWE 2K14, and NFL Blitz.

Absolutely!! It's a fraction as difficult to comprehend, especially if you show them how the combos work (which isn't even bad, most all attacks are xy, or xxy, or xxxxyy or something along those lines)

And it's a rad jumping off point for the Zelda series

Should I play Wii games on my Wii or on my Wii U, or does it have zero influence in terms of image quality? I use the cables I got with them: a SCART for Wii and an HDMI for Wii U.

If the first, then I'll probably sell my GameCube since I can play them on the Wii. If the latter, then I'll probably sell the Wii because of U's backwards compatibility.

Can I use a usb drive as a wiiu storage drive but only one partition of a usb drive, not the whole thing.

Is it possible? Knowing nintendo I dont think so, but maybe there is a workaround or something. I really really wanna buy Bayonneta 1+2 but no space :(

Based on my limited understanding, Wii games look marginally better on Wii U. I've gotten rid of a GameCube and my Wii is now a GC/VC machine, with the Wii U being for Wii U, Wii, and SNES VC (if available).

I don't know, man. If the differences are negligible, what's the point, haha. Ah well, better something than nothing. Another quick question if you don't mind: I could just buy from Wii VC in Wii Mode on Wii U, right? Wouldn't it make more sense just to ditch the OG Wii, or do the NGC games look better on the Wii?

Also, I know the Smash GameCube adapter doesn't work for other Wii U games, but does it happen to work on the Wii Mode (and specifically its VC)?

You're right that the differences being negligible means there really isn't too much point. It just depends on much that small difference matters to you. You absolutely could buy Wii VC in Wii Mode as you said. As for GCN games on Wii, I'm going to quote this thread:

If you don't have a Gamecube component cable or Gameboy Player, the Wii is a better option.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=863299

Essentially, GCN games will look better on your Wii if you don't have GCN component cables. If you do, I don't see any reason to hold onto your Wii, off the top of my head at least. :)

I don't believe the GCN adapter/controller would be recognized by the system in Wii mode at all; at that point your Wii U thinks it's a Wii and Wii has no software to use GCN controllers via such an adapter, only via its internal architecture...I think that's right, if that makes sense. However, if you're eager to play VC games using a GCN controller, I believe there are Classic Controller variants (made by...I want to say Hori?) that you can plug into a Wiimote and use as a Classic Controller; presumably those would work in Wii mode VC.

I guess you've persuaded me into ditching my GameCube in the basement for the time being then. :) I don't have any component cables for the GameCube (apparently Nintendo didn't even release them in Europe back then), both my GC and Wii are SCART. I also don't have a Gameboy Player or anything, so that isn't an important factor for me. And yeah, I figured the adapter probably wouldn't work, but nice to have some confirmation.

Thanks Max, appreciate it a lot!

Is it a Wiimote+? I have four of those and they all work well with the Wii U and Mario Kart 8.

It's not Wiimotes+, no :/ I do have two of them, with nunchucks, though so it would be great if that suffices. Thanks for the help.

My pleasure! Anything I can do to help someone enjoy their Nintendo games more. :)

How do I use any headphones on an Xbox one?

I have an hdmi for video and sound going into my computer monitor. The monitor has speakers but no audio output.

So there's this

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00OIPOTYG/?tag=neogaf0e-20

Connects to your controller and allows you to use any wired 3.5mm headphone [standard headphone jack these days]

If you really wanted to try and pull the audio straight from the hdmi out for some reason you could use this I suppose

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ECTHIKK/?tag=neogaf0e-20

But that seems convoluted

-------

Does anyone know if the XB1 outputs audio to all audio outputs? Because then potentially you could get like an optical cable to 3.5mm cable but that again sounds convoluted.

I'd probably just go with the chat adapter

I am having a problem and would appreciate if someone could help me out.

I put a new 2TB hard drive in my PS4 and now having problems with KZ.

I think I have everything installed right? I really don't get it. I also don't understand why some DLC are repeated twice. I actually had to download them all twice (non-coop stuff)

It was all perfect before this new hard drive so I don't understand. KZ and the PS4 does an AWFUL job with downloads and DLC

Dumb question here.

Can anyone name this character from some playstation game?

I know I've seen him/her before. You can see its 2 eyes, a nose and a mouth.

What is a reasonable level for finishing Dragon's Dogma the first time through? Pre-game and Post-game. Also, what's the best overall build, class-leveling-wise? Finally, why is it sometimes I'm prompted to rate a pawn/gift an item and sometimes I'm not?

Pretty sure the translation was done in a hurry and not all of them were even fluent in English, which is why lines like "This guy are sick" made it into the final game.

I can't answer your question, because I haven't finished it yet, but I can tell you that 46 hours in I am level 12.......yepp.......12..... I don't know if that's normal, maybe I have too much fun just exploring and doing side missions.... But I'm pretty sure I'm about halfway through the game, and there are several areas that I get WASTED if I try to go through them. If I had to guess, level 16-20.

EDIT: WHOOPS! I'm talking about Dragon Age not Dragon's Dogma my bad!

Found out I'm getting a Wii U for Xmas, but there's a lot of Wii original games I never played. Will the Pro controller work for for Wii games, or will I need to buy a wiimote and nunchuk to go with them?

Pro Controller only works with Wii U games, so you'd need the Wiimote and Nunchuk (I'd also recommend getting a Classic Controller Pro for some Wii games that are better with a "normal controller" as well)

Still having problems with KZ Shadowfall, I went into create a match and apparently NONE of the DLC is installed properly.. So I have deleted it from my hard drive (stupid you can't select individual DLCs) but they are all still showing as "installed" from the KZ related items store page. Any ideas what to do?

Do you think a return to cartridge based games on a home console could happen? Cartridge based media has had an explosion in size and the price per catridge has fallen dramatically since the days of the N64. Get a good format and you could load games way faster than even HDD installs (barring SSD's).

Not to mention the obvious benefit of stemming piracy.

Will downsampling or Dynamic Super Resolution (DSR) make my gpu or cpu work harder than usual? Will I have lower frame rates?

Yes, any form of AA will make your GPU work harder and downsampling and DSR are among the worst. for example if you are gaming at 1080p at 4x AA downsampling (SSAA) you are going to be getting the same fps as if you were playing at 4k

The cost for a cartridge for the size of a modern game is still prohibitively expensive.

There seems to be two major files for downloading Ni No Kuni. Do I need both? Not sure my 40GB ps3 can take it :/ Another site said the 16GB file is garbage?

I unlocked an achievement on Peggle 2 for the Xbox One but it's just stuck saying "Achievement done! Unlocking...", what's going on? Also, all my optional objective achievements seem to be glitched. I didn't get the one for doing 90 until I hit 96 and the tracking for all the others suggests that they're going to require more than said.

I'm getting a new monitor for Christmas. I remember seeing information about the PS4 being hdmi protected or something. Do I need a special kind of monitor that the PS4 will give a video feed to or will any hdmi monitor work?
