This thread is for stupid GAMING questions that don't deserve their own thread

I don't know too much about them myself but I did get one for the 360 before I had an HDTV and let me tell you... buy an official one. I bought some third party one and it was always loose. I ended up taping it to my 360 until I just gave up and went back to SD before I went HD.

Ok, I guess I'll try to get one exclusively for Wii then. But does anyone know anything about these and can possibly help me with getting a nice one?

Is there a way to backup a protected savegame like f-zero gx on cube using something like GCMM or Gamecube Saver ?

i'm REALLY not in the mood to beat the cups on master dificulty to unlock the ax tracks =P

When is it socially acceptable to make an LTTP thread? 6 months after release?
I think it depends on if the game is still being played or not. For instance, Demon's Souls still have a very active official thread 20+ months after its release. If the last post in the official thread is less than three months old, you might as well bump that thread instead.

I'm trying to run Deus Ex and 1. the coloring is weird and 2. everything is moving half speed. I set the affinity to a single processor (dual-core) and that didn't work. Forcing vsync didn't work. I don't have a clue about the colors. The computer's a typical dual-core W7 laptop but I didn't have any problems on a dual-core W7 desktop I used before. All I did was copy the save files. How do I get everything working normally?

The colors are probably weird because the color depth is set too low. You might benefit from picking a different renderer (or downloading a fan-made dx10 renderer since you have windows 7, though keep in mind that using an unofficial renderer might cause new graphic errors)

Speed issues might be caused by the renderer OR it might be your laptop's power consumption systems throttling the CPU.

Anyway, my question:

I'm sort of getting an itch to play a racing game, but I'm kind of picky:
-Gotta be for the PC
-Don't want a whole lot of gimmicks.
-Arcade-style, not sim.
-As new and pretty as possible.

I'm looking for something like Burnout. However, the only Burnout game on the PC is Paradise which I've already played the hell out of.
Is the whole police angle in the new Need for Speed really prevalent?
Not sure about Dirt 2 either because I don't tend to like offroad games.

I'm having trouble with an achievement for Steam Plants vs. Zombies GOTY and don't want to bump that thread for it. It's "Disco is Undead," you have to use a hypno-shroom on the lead dancing zombie. I've done this 5 times now but have not been awarded the achievement. The only thing I can think of is that he has not survived to leave the edge of the board on the right, he was always killed either shot in the back by my lawn defense, or eaten by an incoming zombie. Does he need to survive or is this achievement glitched and not working for me?

Have you tried TrackMania? You can get TrackMania Nations Forever for free on Steam: http://store.steampowered.com/app/11020/

I dl'd the DX10 render. Is it supposed to be unplayable on an 8600M GT? The menu is running less than 1 FPS :lol

I just bought a PS3 and the text looks really small in my television. Does it mean I need to buy a new one or is it something that has to do wih the settings?

Kinda bummed :(

Well try just setting the color depth in the display menu with the default d3d renderer. That will probably fix your color problem.

So I wanted to buy Dragon Age but I found DA: Awakening instead, which is a DLC I suppose, and so I'm looking for a GOTY edition that includes all of that but apparently it doesn't exist.
So my question is:is there a Goty edition in the works?

It's already out - Dragon Age: Ultimate Edition

If you have Windows 7, can you still play some slightly older Steam games that don't have it listed as a supported OS? The first L4D, for example.

I was thinking about this basic game I played in the late 80s. You built a rocket and saw how much height it could reach. You could change the cone fins and other things about the rocket. Does anyone know what this game is called? I wish I had a picture :( It probably wast the lamest game ever but I remember enjoying it when i was younger.

crap, asked this over in the OT stupid questions thread but i think i should've asked it here, my bad:

my university does Windows 7 (64 bit) Professional upgrade for cheap, and i want to get in on that action...but i need a full install for a new gaming rig i just put together. is there anyway i can use this disc for that purpose (or at least the key) or do i really have to find a legit copy of vista, install that shit, then put this over that?

You might have better luck if you ask over here.

Is there any way to play my PC games on my TV without having to move my computer in the same room as my TV? Some form of wireless connection would be ideal.

Is it possible to export a saved game from DS games to one of those R4 things people keep talking about? I'd like to have my Dragon Quest IX saved elsewhere in case something should ever happen to my cart. On the same note, if such a thing is possible, can I also turn around and transfer the file back to the original cart?

Is there a way to set a PS3 to send all sound through a USB headset? I just got a new monitor and decided to hook my ps3 up to it because it will actually be in HD instead of on my janky old tv, but the side-effect of this is that it's now on the same floor as and within 15-or-so feet of my parent's room. I'd like to be able to play games at night without waking them up.

I've got the PS3 hooked up to the monitor via HDMI and the headset is USB like I said. I've tried messing around in both audio options and audio devices under accessories but I can't seem to get all audio routed to the headset.

Can anyone tell me why I get screen tearing when playing PC games on my TV? The games are running at 60hz, as is the TV, v-sync is on and there's no tearing on my monitor, so I have no idea what the problems is.

Edit: Never mind! It stopped happening when I made the TV the main Windows screen, instead of cloning the screen and having the same picture on both the monitor and the TV.

What should I buy: Pac-man DX or Forza 3 Ultimate Edition? Help me Gaf!
Download the demos and then decide if either is worth buying. I'd go for Forza if it wasn't incompatible with my racing wheel.

the hell did you find an actual copy of FM3 ultimate Edition? I'll buy it, and you can buy Pacman DX! :lol

It's on Amazon.co.uk for £12! :D

I should add I don't have a wheel either. I don't mind playing with a stock controller though...

My brother has EXTENSIVELY played Twilight Princess for the gamecube. He loves the shit outta the game and still plays it.

We are getting a Wii this Christmas. Should I pick up TP for the Wii? Is it worth it?

Why do you want two copies? Can't you wait for Skyward Sword?

No, the gamecube version is the definitive version. The Wii version is mirrored, literally. Everything from the levels to the entire world map is mirrored, they even broke link by making him Right Handed in the Wii version... :(

And the only positive side of having the Wii version is you get 1 extra quick-switch item slot.

Having played both, I preferred the Wii version of Twilight Princess. If your brother loves the game and you think he wants a new way to play it, then definitely get it (you can probably find it cheap).

Every item that involves aiming is much more fun and convenient to use in the Wii version. Pointing for the win.

It's not necessarily enough of an improvement to warrant buying another copy, though.

In Canada, Twilight Princess is currently $10 more expensive than it was when it came out. :P

Again,

-Can you take a screen shot on the PS3 !?
-Can I play with someone from another country with the same game !?

I thought you were asking the poster above you to take a screenshot for some reason.

Some PS3 games allow you to take screenshots. Some (for example, Noby Noby Boy) let you do it by opening up the XMB and selecting an option from the "Photo" section. Others (Metal Gear Solid 4, Wipeout HD) do it through an in-game item or mode. Most games don't let you take screenshots at all, though.

Most games with online play work with any region's version of the game. Maybe all of them. I've never really heard of a game that doesn't let you play with other versions, but I guess there might be one out there somewhere. If that's what you're asking.

Does the retail version of Dragon Age: Ultimate Edition have the DLC already on the disc (ala Oblivion GOTY) or do you get a voucher to download it (ala Borderlands GOTY)? I tried to Google and didn't find any sort of definitive answer.

Thanks dude,

I had no idea MGS4 has this feature :).

you gotta unlock the camera in one of the cutscenes where you control the little bot, so it's easy to miss

that's one feature I really like about the PS3, especially since you can export them to a memory thing, it's a shame that more games don't take advantage of it

You reminded me of a question I've been meaning to ask. Is there a list of DS titles that won't allow multiplayer between copies from different regions?

Does 360 output 1080p over component? Was setting up friend's new 1080p tv and the 360 would only output at 720p. I have used VGA connection since I got mine, so I'm not sure.
