This thread is for stupid GAMING questions that don't deserve their own thread

This is started to annoy me. I buy a game off steam onto my mac. Deus Ex Game of the Year Edition and now it says "game not available for your platform". First of all why would they let me download it in the first place and why won't a 10 year old Mac game not run on my system? Is this some kind of joke? I updated everything, and checking steam my OS is compatible with Steam. Anyone else have this problem with a Mac and Steam? This is my first game I got off of it. I feel like I've been ripped off by Valve though.

I only see the Windows icon on the game page. http://store.steampowered.com/app/6910/
Valve didn't rip you off if you didn't check to see if the game was available for Mac before buying it.

Does anyone know a good reference site for Dreamcast accessories and stuff? I scored this haul today and am interested in the value of some of these.

Can someone point me in the right direction, looking for the big retro book that was recently released with all the NES coverage?

So I have to pick two games from a possible three this holiday, one of them being Bayonetta. The other game will most likely either be Vanquish or NFS:HP. It's just idk which one I should pick. I'm planning on building a gaming PC this summer so I could NFS there, but idk if I should wait until then to play it or if I should just play it now over the winter break on 360? and Vanquish well I have heard so many good things about Vanquish and really interested in playing it. So what should I GAF Vanquish or NFS:HP?

Vanquish and Hot Pursuit are new. Bayonetta came out almost a year ago and is like $20. It shouldn't really be much of a factor. :P You can probably afford that yourself.

Unless you've already taken that into account. In which case, I'd go with Vanquish.

720P upscales very nicely to 1080P, whether your TV is doing the scaling, or the console.

And yes, a few games do render in 1080P.

1080P is definitely a step up. No worries.

They won't look like shit, depending on what you consider poor visuals. There are very few games that render at native 1080p.

Thanks for the input! I made the switch and I am blown away by the improvement!! I may go through all my games again because of the improvement.

I have one more stupid question, I was playing Castlevania:LoS earlier and on the box it says it supports 1080p but when I press info it says the tv is running the game at 720p. What's going on here?

Has there been any word on Rayman Origins since E3? It looked really cool and I thought it was supposed to have a Q4 2010 release, but obviously that ain't happening.

GF really wants sweet child of mind by guns and roses on one of her music games. She has World tour, rock band 2 and band hero. Any quick solutions to this problem?

Why do all FPS ladders suck balls? You always get stuck on them and good luck going down one. And since when do ladders make you a defenseless sack of meat? I mean c'mon, I can't hold a damn pistol in my hand for protection SINCE I'M IN A WARZONE?!

www.digitpress.com

if the information provided does not help, then take the picture to the classic gaming forums. there are some hard core collectors that post on this site. good luck.

now my question...

what causes the audio to go out of sync in video games? a majority of the time when real time cut scenes occur the dialog does not match the movement of their mouths. i am playing on an HDTV with HDMI (PS3) and VGA (xbox 360) input.

Buy Guitar Hero II (aka best Guitar Hero) it's a cover version but it's your only choice.

So I'm aware that awhile back MS allowed users to save stuff on USB. My question is did that allow you to transfer over xbox 1 saves to you xbox 360 HDD?

Thanks, Ordered it for the 360. Then I realized that all of out plastic instruments are for the playstation 3, Which leads to my next stupid gaming question. Will they work?

It means it supports 1080p scaling but the developer has a preference to allowing the TV to do the scaling as appose to the console. If you disable 720p from the menu, it will force the 1080p mode but it shouldn't look as good.

I posted this question in the other similar thread, but I'll try here too.

Why do people only talk about MLAA when talking about PS3 and PC, is the 360 not a good fit for it? If so why not?

Puzzle Quest GAF I need you.

DS/PSP vs XBLA/PC

I am familiar with the PSP version of the game, double dipping on the PC version and was hoping someone could proved a list of changes / balance tweaks they did in this updated version of Puzzle Quest. Any change logs out there or so to speak with the differences listed?

Did anyone else find Uncharted's combat to be boring? I just beat Uncharted 2 and think it was a beautiful hell of a ride but I never enjoyed the shooting to be honest. It was simply uneventful and basic with too much recoil and repetition - all of the enemies looked the same and behaved the same, peeking behind cover or walking at you with a shotgun. The fact that the game relied on the "18 waves of enemies will come into this area. SURVIVE!" mechanic didn't help matters.

Would still give it a 9/10 but I wish the combat was actually fun. It was the worst part of the game imo.

I liked the shooting but disliked the puzzles/platforming.

On PS3, MLAA is a good fit since it can be done efficiently on the SPUs, which are partly idle in most games. For many PS3 games performance is GPU-bound (particularly on bandwidth), and moving AA from there to Cell is a good thing.

On PC, the motivation is a bit different, you usually only want MLAA for games where it is impossible to use traditional AA. So it's not a performance improvement move, but rather one to improve quality in stupid games.

The 360 GPU has eDRAM for the framebuffer, so doing normal MSAA is pretty cheap (once you've got the effort of tiling out of the way). Also, the CPU is far less powerful for image processing than Cell, so it wouldn't make any sense to move the workload there.

I have a question about Rome: Total War, but maybe this applies to any of the Total War games:

Is there a proper to way to attack a friendly faction you are allies with? I'm playing as the Julii and I'm ready to move against Germania, but I think I started out as allies with them, and now if I move an army onto their territory, I get a nasty note from the senate saying pull back or I'll get no senate offices for the next four turns.

I sent a diplomat to cancel trade rights with Germania, and they replied they see no reason to cancel our agreement. I guess I can just go ahead and attack, but is their a proper way to declare war on a friendly faction that minimizes repercussions?

I have some questions about WoW in general. I'm a about as noob as noob can get when it comes to Wow and just started playing last weekend so needless to say I'm a bit overwhelmed. I'll just list what questions I have.

- Who gets credit for a kill? Is it the final blow or most damage dealt? In the first area (Human Mage I'm playing) I had to kill this guy but so did other people. The dude would spawn and 10 people would be attacking him and only 1 person got the loot which had an item to complete the quest. Took me about an hour to finally get credit for the kill but this was after some d bag higher level players kept one shotting him and laughing as us other level 5 peons were just trying to complete the quest.

- I notice on some quests not only do you get EXP. but also an item to chose from. Some items have a red background. Does that mean my character can't use that item?

- Where can I buy a new bag or sell my shit? I have no more room to carry any items and still have not run across a vendor yet. I'm in Elywnn Forrest.

- After I left the starting area I went to a house with a woman selling cat crates. Is she selling the crate or the actual cat or both? I want a fucking cat!

-When do I actually need to start playing with others? I can't stand d-bags who take this shit like its a job and scream at you for screwing up.

-What does the whole profession thing deal with?

-Anything else that a super WoW noob should know? Thanks in advance

Is there a way to find out what demos are available on every psn store without making a million accounts and checking?

Sonic Riders

kidding

About how long does it take to beat Prince of Persia 2008?

I beat the game and earned the speed demon trophy without even trying. Less than 10 hours I guess. The game forces you to enter a zone, clean it, then explore it to collect light bulbs. Feel so forced :lol

Just got a new PC this week and I'm having display issues. When I set the resolution at anything other than 1680x1050, it doesn't fill the whole screen. But before today, I was able to run everything much higher. I have AMD Radeon HD 6850 and the drivers seem to be up to date (8.782.0.0) and my monitor is an ASUS VE276Q.

Any idea how to change my resolution back to 1920x1080 and run in full screen?

Braid - can all the puzzles be solved when you first encounter them, or do you have to come back later with new skills or anything like that?

Skills are exclusive to the chapters you use them in, so no, no need to return with new abilities.

So I've put a couple hours into AC:B, but am leaving for Florida tomorrow. Can I put my save file on a usb stick and then transfer it to and from my relative's xbox?

Ok, a really stupid question here.

I connected my PS3 to the internet for the first time, and I'm trying to redeem my code for the Vanquish DLC. How do get it? I don't know where to put in the code. I tried the "Redeem Codes" section in the Playstation Store, but it didn't accept it.

Also, does it matter if I have the Japanese version but I'm using it on an American Ps3 in the US store? $1.99 isn't bad, but since I have a code I'd like to be able to use it.

you need to go to the Japanese Store for any DLCs for Japanese versions of games (dlc are region based iirc) so you can't buy US DLCs for your PAL/Japanese versions from the US store, so because of that you need to buy them from UK/Japan/whatever that match the region of your copy.

but if you have a Japanese code that you need to redeem it , then first make a Japanese PSN Account , it's shit easy ( Lord Kassatsu's guide to making a JPSN account ) ,then just log to the account and redeem the code on the JPSstore or even the redeem section on the XMB.

Thank you verily. I made the account, and downloaded the pack without any trouble. Too bad the content is attached only to this other account though.

So if I'm playing something on my 360 with a regular controller, and I get a request to play someone at Street Fighter, how do I get my 360 to stop recognizing the game pad as controller 1 and recognize my fight stick instead? I tried powering down my controller and then turning on the stick, but it still came on as controller 2...

Does anyone know if I were to send someone a PSN code for a PSP game through Amazon US, could it work on the Canadian PSN store? Google is giving me varying answers so I have no idea. I know a US code won't work in Europe and vice versa, but I don't know about Canada.

Does anyone know if the Professor Layton DVD spoils the storyline of any of the games? I saw it cheap online the other day and was going to pick it up but I've only completed the first Layton game. I was wondering whether I should complete the other two before getting it or whether it doesn't matter at all.

Does anyone know if you can save (multiple) playlists in Rock Band 2 like you can in Guitar Hero 5? Kind of annoying having to create a playlist every time you want to play.

I received Black Ops as a Christmas gift. The game was was sealed in plastic, complete with the bar code sticker that goes over the top of the case. So naturally, I didn't think anything of it. I opened it up and all that was there was a blank CDR. Who, when, where, why and how?

I got a PS3 a couple of weeks ago, and now want to know the deal with the PSN store. Specifically, the process in which one adds funds to their PSN account, something I assume is possible.

I know you can buy PSN cards at retail for associated values, and I also know you can directly purchase content with a credit card. My question is; can one add 'funds' to their PSN account without buying a retail card, instead with a credit/debit card, and if so are they restricted to specific value blocks (eg: $25, $50, etc), or can they add any amount they chose?
