This thread is for stupid GAMING questions that don't deserve their own thread

I have (what I hope) is a stupid question regarding PS3 and wireless.

I currently have a PS3 Slim. I'm trying to connect it to my wireless router. Now, it can connect fine if I use an Ethernet cable, but whenever I try to use the wireless connection, it gets stuck in an endless loop of "Exchanging key information..." and "Connecting to the access point...". I've checked my key dozens of times, and other devices can connect using the same info.

Now, I don't want to switch from WPA2, because I have several other devices that use the modem, and I'd have to change them all every time I want to use the PS3. I've tried resetting my modem, assigning a static IP, using the 'DMZ', whatever. I really hope there is something obvious I'm overlooking, because I can't really believe that my other consoles and every single other device that I have can connect so easily, yet this thing can't even get assigned an IP.

I guess I'm just asking: is there anything I've overlooked in trying to connect? Or is it a problem with the PS3?

VVVVVV, Bit Trip Series, Megaman9 and Scott Pilgrim

3 example of games that use midi music.

Why i can only get mp3 from those and other midi like games ?

Vgmusic.com has 1 bit trip song, 2 scott pilgrim and lots of megaman .... but ... they all selled their soundtracks ... and nothing on midi !

Steam question:
I added games to my 'wish list'. If these games get discounts, will I be automatically notified? If not, is there a Steam option for that?

I'd guess it's because the sound is generated using MIDI software but distributed as mp3 files. Actual MIDI is a pain and completely unnecessary.

Anyone know where I can find Diablo I? The Blizzard store doesn't seem to sell it.
You have to purchase a physical copy, similar to Warcraft I and II, it's not available digitally.

It's unfortunate, I'm not sure why they don't sell those games digitally. I still have my old disc copy of Diablo I.

Is there a way to get a Dreamcast online if you have broadband but not the adapter? Preferably something easy.
What do you mean, aren't all the servers for multiplayer games down?

Do you just want to use it for web browsing?

You don't get a notification with sound or anything, but when there is a big sale there sometimes is a thing at the top of the page that is probably gonna say " X of the games on your wishlist are on sale!"

Was there ever an official cancellation of the Muramasa: The Demon Blade HD port to PSN and Xbox Live?

Because I don't have a Wii, but I SO wanted to play that game.

I'm a few years late to this, but I just made a twitter account. I'm want to follow some gaming twitters, but I have no idea where to look. Please tell me what to o.

I think somehow some are still up. But yes I think it would be nifty to go online and browse the internet on the dreamcast.

But not nifty enough to spend money on that adapter.

Is there a way to see your purchase history on Xbox LIVE INCLUDING prices paid? The Microsoft billing website only goes back to September 2010 and Xbox.com has no prices.

Anyone else find the length of the gaming thread titles getting a little out of hand? My god just look at all that text on page one.
I'd say that was a gaming related question.

Nah they are normal,on the other hand OT titles are getting shorter and it reflect how inferior the OT side of Gaf compared to the superior gaming forum master race.

why is stupid blizzard being stupid and making internets required for stupid diablo III?
blizzard should know better that pc gaming achieved perfection in twenty zero zero.

Anybody know of any decent strategy games using mechs ala front mission for PSP?
Super Robot Wars Z2, but it's an import title if you're in NA. A translation guide can get you through the majority of the game though.

Uncharted + Uncharted 2 Questions:

1. Does changing your character skins in both Uncharted + Uncharted 2 affect trophies? Example - beating the game on a certain difficulty level.

2. For Uncharted 2...when playing multiplayer do the weapon kill trophies (or any trophy for that matter) count or is it only for just singleplayer?

3. For beating the game on Hard + Crushing trophies....can I do the chapters out of order so long as I do them all on the specific difficulty level?

4. In the first Uncharted when I went to my save file every time I started the game on a new difficulty level my total hours for playing the game would be reset! Is that the same in Uncharted 2 and if it is how do I avoid having my hours played reset? Instead of going to 'New Game' should I just go to 'Chapter 1'? If I do that do I still get the beating the game on a certain difficulty trophy? It's all pretty confusing, and all I want is to not have my stats deleted. Why must it be so confusing and not simple like it should be!

Brought over from the OT.

Game dev gaffers,

My friend and I area making a game with xna + visual studio and he's doing the programming and me the art. He has sent me a folder with all the game files but I can't seem to run the exe he compiled. I click and it does nothing. thoughts?

I installed visual studio 2010, anything else I might need to run it?

XNA runtime? Likely 4.0

Does absolutely nothing at all happen why you try to launch the application?

Nadda, the little win7 blue circle goes around but it disappears.

What is GAF's stance on emulator talk? Because I have a question, but don't want to risk my account just to ask it.
From the TOS:
E. Emulation/Piracy

The topics of emulation and piracy, including the technical nature of emulators and ROM images, hardware modification technology, as well as their effect on the industry as a political topic are deemed to be generally acceptable.

Linking to pirate download sites, directions on how to get pirated software to work, reviews or impressions of pirated software will all result in the banning of the user in question.

emulator talk itself is A-OK

Install XNA 3.1 or 4.0. Ask your programmer buddy which one he uses. You basically need that to run it, but just to be safe install visual studio (2008 and 2010 express, I have both to be safe) as well so you can debug it in case it crashes

You can also just install windows phone tools I believe which is all in one package (although I'm not sure it has XNA 3.1)

How can I beat someone 8-0 on Xbox FIFA and feel like a gaming God, offer them a rematch, use the same teams, yet then have to run though treacle and cannot get near the ball in the rematch and lose 0-8? HOW CAN THE EXPERIENCE VARY SO RIDICULOUSLY WILDLY FROM ONE GAME TO THE NEXT?

- the skins don't effect trophies, so feel free to spend your entire replay as doughnut drake

2. For Uncharted 2...when playing multiplayer do the weapon kill trophies (or any trophy for that matter) count or is it only for just singleplayer?

- MP trophies are separate :(

3. For beating the game on Hard + Crushing trophies....can I do the chapters out of order so long as I do them all on the specific difficulty level?

- yes, once the game is beaten, you can play the chapters in any order

4. In the first Uncharted when I went to my save file every time I started the game on a new difficulty level my total hours for playing the game would be reset! [....]

- Not entirely sure about this one, but I think you can continue to use your save without starting a new one when you replay chapters

I enjoyed the God of War series. What are other games in the genre that Gaf suggests I play?
Bayonetta and Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition are probably most people's favorites. You could also try one of the Ninja Gaiden games or Castlevania: Lords of Shadow.

How long did you play the game until you saw the credits?

A little late, but it took me 5,5-6 hours to complete the game. I skipped the secret super hard optional dungeon that was supposed to be in the game.

As it turns out I've had a copy of DMC 3: SE sitting around in my PS2 library that was given to me as a gift from a cousin. I guess I should open it up, lol. Thanks for the suggestions, and if all goes well with DMC 3 I'll give Bayonetta a shot too.

Why do you think that consumer LCD/Plasma cannot run Asynchronous? - that is, display frames as soon their done, tearing-free and without V-Sync lag.
To me it seems that it would be a huge benefit.

i have a stupid one:

for years and years i thought diablo 2 was a singleplayer game. what exactly do you do online? i heard people that played it for thousands of hours. is there more to it than just the singleplayer? did id get content upgrades like WoW?

Multiplayer consists of the same thing as the single player, just with up to 7 other people in the same "world" that you are in. Meaning, you could be in Act 3, but there could be 1 to 7 other people in any other Act. Anything in that particular game that the person starting the "world" spawned would remain persistent. So if you started at Act 1, killed Andariel, and eventually worked your way to Act 3, those people in Act 1 who presumably joined at some point after you would not have Andariel to kill.

If those people wanted to kill Andariel, they would have to either make their own fresh game, or join one in which she had not been killed yet.

Monster HP and experience gained is raised relative to the number of people in the game as well. There's a handy little code to type in, that I have since forgotten, that lets you boost monster levels up to the same as any number of players you wish to simulate. So you can make the game think there are more people in it. Again, more HP, but more experience.

Edited to add: I realize I didn't clarify one thing. Each time you make a new "world", the game resets. So just because you killed Diablo doesn't mean he is dead forever. You kill him in one "world", but making or joining a different game would give you the opportunity to kill him again. This lets you repeatedly kill high XP monsters, and allows the popular MF runs (Baal, Pindleskin, Mephisto, and so on) to capitalize on monsters that have the probability of excellent drops.

Edited again to add: There was one major expansion, the Lord of Destruction pack, that added an entire new act and two new classes to the stock game. It also introduced Runes and Runewords, scores of new armor and weapons, and balanced the skills of both player classes and monsters. There have been several major revisions since LoD launched with each bringing about new tweaks (or nerfs, as it were) and features, such as respec cube recipes and new Runewords.

Work through it logically.

Make sure there isn't a wireless association button on the router.

Check the wiki page on DMZ - let your brain un-melt and then don't use it for what you are trying.

Unless you have a router that supports DHCP and non-DHCP at the same time DO NOT have static and non-static IP's at the same time. Make sure you have the matching method to the router on the PS3.

Log onto the router, drop the security totally (temporarily of course). If the PS3 connects then try using non WPA2 security.

You say you would have to change all other devices every time you wanted to use the PS3? You wouldn't, its just a one time thing to get all the devices using the same security details.

Anyone know what promotion this particular piece was part of?

I've been meaning to track down some of the TimeSplitters games but I have no idea which ones of them are a must and the best etc. I hear they've got co-op though so that's pretty cool. So which one is a definite must have?

Dumb Question (not sure where else to put this):

Just bought a brand new copy of L.A Noire for the 360 and I'm curious was it suppose to come with a free DLC code?

Depends on where you bought it from.

HMV Ireland? Certain places gave away certain DLC if I remember correctly yes?
That's right yeah, I can't speak to HMV Ireland though.

Regardless you would have only got one, if you care about DLC I believe you can buy a 'Rockstar Pass' that will get you them all cheaper than buying the ones you don't have would cost.

They're all fun, but 2 is the 'definite must have',

TimeSplitters Future Perfect probably has a better story mode, so if you just want to go through that, I'd go with it.
