This thread is for stupid GAMING questions that don't deserve their own thread

If you already copied a previous version of that save file to the SD card, it will give you that message. You have to manually delete the old save from your SD card before copying it from your Wii.

That was exactly what I was worried about. Glad I know now, thanks.

Can you use Xbox Live points to buy Xbox Live Games on Demand?

There should be an option to change the payment method, something along akin to "push the X button to use MS points". I can't remember the exact details but I know I did it with both Borderlands and Cryisis.

To anyone who have played Phantasy Star Online:

I've been playing the GC version on split screen (I had never played it before) with my BF lately, but we have an issue: Do you really need to play every dungeon from the very beggining (i.e. Forest 1), no matter if you've finished it, every time you turn on the game? or are we doing something wrong at saving?

Hope somebody helps me out on this one as I've been having quite the hard time finding an answer to that. :(

Does 3DS improve DS games' performance? I was unable to beat the final boss of Sonic Rush because the FPS dropped to <5 during it. Or are the horrible slowdowns still present in games that use 3D models?

It doesn't for DQ9. I haven't played any others, but that game's performance is identical.

I have a question of my own. Amazon's not selling the DSi XL any more. Is it getting discontinued? I have intended to trade in my Lite for an XL at some point but I had hoped the price would go down first!

Also, I asked before about some website or story or article that explains the differences between 480p image quality of the Gamecube and Wii, so if that's out there.

I played through Resident Evil 5 on co-op with a friend and didn't unlock anything when we finished. I'm assuming this is because we quit midway through a few levels and I went back to level 2-1 to grind for ammo a bit before resuming. (He was hosting.) My questions:

- To unlock the costumes and unlimited ammo and stuff, do I just have to play through the chapters I'm missing clear times for, or do I have to do them all again?
- Does it matter if I play the game on Amateur for those three chapters when my records for the others are for Normal?
- Do I have to host, and if I don't have to host, can I do it with the unlockable infinite ammo?

1) Costumes - you have to beat the game once and get all the BSAA emblems to unlock all the costumes. Unlimited ammo - you have to upgrade that particular weapon fully then buy the cheat for that weapon in the bonus features using points (the points you get after finishing chapters)

2) Any difficulty I think
3) You don't need to host, you can do it with infinite ammo.

only the dsl has been discontinued, as far as i know. and the original ds, of course.

How does DLC work for retailers (ie different costumes, etc with pre-orders)?

Are they given as a bonus from the publishers or do they have to pay for the exclusive?

They generally "pay" with some sort of quid pro quo like in-store advertising and such.

A lot of the job of publishers that most people don't really think about is stuff like securing shelf space, prominent in-store displays, negotiating buyback protection, etc. Outlet-specific DLC is a part of that dance.

That's a lot more steps than stupid GameFAQs mentions. :P Thanks.

Pretty much every time I check out a trailer for a Japanese game, the title has "PV" in it. What does PV stand for in these instances?

Pretty sure it stands for Promotional Video, but I could be wrong.

i'm planning on doing a group videocast thing, but none of us have webcams - few people have tablets but i think the built-in cameras are kinda weak. the PS eye is cheap these days, right? how does it fair for this kinda task? ive got a buddy who says if we use 2 or more he'll edit it for shots and such, just trying to see if this can be done on the cheap.

It's been a good few years since I've played the GC version, but I believe that Player 1 has to activate the monolith in each dungeon in order to be able to go to the next dungeon freely (or whoever is in control of the file). Also, unlocking an area on one difficulty won't unlock it on another.

So, today after the free Microsoft Points bug things I bought Batman AA (Xbox). I bought / did it on another account just incase.
Is there any way to make my other (main) account the "owner" of it and make it appear in the download history? Or do I have to switch to the second account to (re)download it in the future?
thanks

Okay my TV broke and I really want to play my PS3 more. I have a 24" 16:10 1920x1200 native LCD monitor.

It has multiple inputs and outputs. It does have a 3.5mm output but how can I control the sound and make it better when I play my PS3 via HDMI on it?

Two Questions..

- What happened to Lenovo game console project ( the one they are making for China only)?

- Is there any other good 360 third party controllers that get recognized by Windows 7 as a Microsoft Xbox 360 Controller (like the Logitech Chillstream)and work for PC, I have a wired 360 controller and the Chillstream but I just hate them..need other good ones.

I'm thinking about ditching my Windoze PC for a Macbook Pro. I have three questions. One, would the 1GB video card in the 17 inch model be enough to run stuff like Battlefield 3 running in Boot Camp Windows 7 maxed out?

Secondly, would it be worth it to get a 1TB external hard drive and run Boot Camp Windows 7 on that, so I don't run out of space? Can I run Boot Camp off an external hard disk?

Finally, I have a bunch of Steam games that have Mac versions. Should I run the Mac stuff through the Mac Steam client, and leave the other stuff for the Windows Boot Camp stuff? How would I go about doing that?

Some thoughts would be nice. If you want to call me crazy, that's fine, too.

I'm using a PS3 sixaxis controller with the MotioninJoy drivers. You can set it to emulate a 360 controller.

I went to Apple's site to see which card that is. It's the Radeon 6750M, which seems to be marginally better than the minimum listed requirement for Battlefield 3. So no, you won't be able to play maxed out, but it should be playable on low settings.

Unless I misunderstand your question, it's just up to you where you play it if there's a Mac version. I'd say you might as well run them through Boot Camp since that's where you'll be doing most of your gaming anyway.

The 17" Macbook Pro is very expensive. If you simply need a Mac for some reason, that's one thing. Otherwise, I would suggest a Windows PC, especially if you're going to be doing a lot of gaming (and at that, gaming like Battlefield 3) because you can get a laptop—or better yet, build a desktop—with much better hardware, and it would cost much less.

The 27 inch iMac has a Radeon 6970M that can have up to 2GB video memory, is that good?

The amount of memory yes, but the card itself isn't really best. Its a mobile version, typically not that great regardless of card.

Holy shit? You can do this?

Well...it doesn't really matter since the pricing is just...LOL.

But thanks. I never knew that.

Don't hate on Hyung Tae Kim.

Question: Are there any video games that let you fire a bow and arrow like you see large armies do in historically based films?

Like say, a volley of arrows (or whatever it's called). So it's fired into the air instead of directly at a specific target.

I'm not sure why an iMac has a mobile GPU but it's still a good card, yes. The memory doesn't matter, it's just more memory for a higher resolution. The 17" probably does not have a resolution that would benefit from 2GB of VRAM. But the model is much closer to the recommended GPU for Battlefield 3 (as opposed to the minimum requirement).

I guess I'll just wait for the next Macbook Pro revision, then. Or get this.

I'm so indecisive...
I mean, I would suggest that over the Macbook—the GPU is a little better, too. But it still seems expensive, and 16GB is an unnecessary amount of RAM. Although, maybe that's just what you have to pay for a good gaming laptop, I dunno.

It's not too much of a hassle (the drivers and all that jazz) and iirc require to be connected to the internet always too when my gaming rig is not always connected.

Don't want to bump a PSN Pass thread so figured this was the best place to ask:

Can someone confirm PSN Pass is system level? My googling suggests it is, but at the same time all the info I found was not official (e.g. quote from Insomniac). I figured that now that it's been out for at least one game, a lot of people probably know for sure.

Second question, if I buy Uncharted 3 DLC maps, are they usable by all accounts on the system? Pretty sure they will be (since all the games I've bought on the PSN are), but just want to double check.

Thanks.

There's a download that lets you use it offline, but I can't remember for the life of me where it is.

What are considered some (consistently) good gaming/tech podcasts?

edit: err, I guess this is more for the non-gaming, but oh well.

I've always installed my games to my hard drive, but they still get scratches. I keep everything in the case when it's not in the xbox. Anyone know what's causing this?

i bought a ps3 and made a name and now i haaaate it. so i made a new one and realized all my saves were gone. plus, i lost my catwoman DLC that came with arkham city. apparently only one of my usernames is allowed to play as her.

I'm doing a persuasive speech against the criminalisation of sales of mature rated video games to minors for my speech class. I'm looking for some good articles related to the supreme court case from earlier this year. Any suggestions?

Am I better off playing Wii games on an SD, Tube (Sony Wega/Trinitron, or whatever) TV? I have fairly mediocre HDTV/Monitor that Wii games (even in 480p) look like shit on. As its looking like I'm going to import Xenoblade, I'm wondering whether I'd be better off playing it on this TV I found in my parents' house.
