This thread is for stupid GAMING questions that don't deserve their own thread

There's this one room in Resident Evil 2 at the Umbrella laboratory. There are some closets in a row, and the camera angle is from above in this room. There's a light on above one of the closet doors. When you try to open it, it says "I could open this if I had a key." (or something like that)

This place is close to the room with a giant moth.

It's not necessary to open this closet, because I finished Leon A and Claire B without ever opening it. I'm just curious to know what's in there, and how do you open it.

edit: Ahh, intense Googling took me nowhere, but Youtube walkthough gave me the answer. Here it is if anyone cares: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eBUio8bK-IQ (11:10 forward)

It's a weapon box, and you need a "weapon box key" to open it.

You can find the key when you step outside the tram that you
fight Mr. X/G-Type Birkin
in. On the ground just outside the door, up against the wall.

The locker contains a shotgun upgrade.

EDIT: Beaten by the askee. Off with my head!

Why did Microsoft discontinue the headsets that had sound controls right next to the controller and replace them with ones that require you to remove a hand from the controller to mute the mic/adjust volume?

Not really 'game-gaming' related but more console related. I noticed I am not using my consoles at all lately. I use them once every 3 months or so. Heck, my PS3 only got stressed a lot when GT5 came out and that has been ages ago. Since I prefer the looks of the Slim console I wonder if a PAL Launch Unit 60 gig in great shape is worth it to trade in for a Slim PS3. As far as my google skills went the Slim only gained Passthrough for HD audio codecs, is more silent and that's it, right? It lost the BC and.... anything else?

Or should I wait and sell it later on? I know they are in 'demand' but I don't know how much, really. I don't really care for the BC so that's no reason for me to keep it and since I haven't been keeping up with the fact if those original consoles get more expensive or not.

60 Gig PAL, as I said, barely used. If I had to put a time on it I would say around 30 to 40 hours in all those years.

Then the next question. Did the Slim Xbox get rid of the terrible buzzing noise the power unit makes and the disc noise?

Apologies for the stupid wording / questions but this thread seemed to be the best to ask them.

Not sure if this belongs here but...

a few years ago (2007-08) i used to play shoddy battle (pokemon simulator) and havnt played it since. I found it on the Smogon website (for those familiar with it)

Now i am seeing a bunch of other simulators and am not sure which one would be best to use.

Also are these simulators safe? (virus free in other words)

Hola! I bought Ys: The Oath of Whatever on Steam the other day. Playing it with a 360 pad. It was working perfectly with the pad, but some of the button assignments defaulted to kinda odd stuff (right stick click was the menu, for instance.) I changed them, and then launched it a day or two later.

Now all of my inputs seem to "stick". It's like I have turbo on, even with the analog stick. Tapping right will jump 2-3 menu slots, etc. Did I hit a random option in the menu inadvertently, or is my gamepad / pc just being a dick?

Stupid Microsoft question: How long have you needed a "Windows Live" account to log in to the Xbox Live website? It doesn't seem so long ago that you could log in with your gamertag... how long was out?

Is there any way I can transfer/redownload games from my broken PS3/account 1 to my current PS3/account 2? Can I just log in to account 1 on my new PS3 or did Sony stop letting people do that?

Unless you have shared your account with other people, you can just use to log into the account from another system. At the moment you can only have it activated on 2 PS3s and 2 PSP/PSVs simultaneously. If it's possible you should try to deactivate the account on your old system.

I'm trying to buy a PAL copy of Wii Fit Plus with the Black Balance board. The problem is that I'm in Canada. Every shop that ships to overseas seemingly has a 1kg limit. Is there anywhere I could buy this from?

Also, I don't have a credit card so Paypal is preferred. I could borrow my dad's card but that is kind of unlikely.

Here´s Bloody Roar 1, for the PS1

(sorry for the pictures, its the best i found on the internet)

And here´s Bloody Roar 2 for the very same PS1

PROBABLY you wont notice it right away because the pictures arent really doing it any justice, but since im playing both of games in the PS3, ill sum the question:

How come Bloody Roar 2 looks SO MUCH BETTER than BR1?

I mean, the first one is even a better game, but the graphics are DISASTROUS.

Every single polygon breaks. They´re full of jaggies (is that what its called?) even if the character is close to the camera. So much you can barely see their faces.

And then comes Bloody Roar2: the polygons are sharp. The characters are a lot better modeled. There are fewer polygon breaks.

I know the first answer will be "It was released latter into the system life cycle" but really, im asking this because the difference between both games is HUGE. Its like two diferent systems

BTW - i never had a Ps1, so that´s why im playing Bloody Roar in 2012. Damn, those are great games!!!! They should make more games like this!

Hey, question about response times and TVs. A few months ago, I purchased a Vizio E37IVA Television. Worst decision ever. I don't know what is wrong with the television, I thought I had done my homework on what to buy (for cheap, at least). It said it was 1080p, 120hz with a 5ms response time. But, it turns out it was something like 60hz native, 120 hz "enhanced".

Shooters, 1st or 3rd person, are unplayable on the tv in any mode outside their custom, uneditable due to firmware, "game" mode. Even then, FPS games have a visible delay between my controller inputs and what happens on screen. I usually average 20-25 kills per match in Reach. With this TV.... 0-5 kills.

So is the issue the 5ms response time, or the "enhanced" refresh hz?

I only ask because I'm in the market for a replacement for this POS, that's why I'm asking. I need to know what a good refresh rate in ms is. I'm looking at a Samsung with a 8.3 ms response time.. but if the Vizio sucked at 5ms....

What response time is best for console based competitive shooters? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I guess this is a gaming related question.

Anyone here know what shipping service Gamestop uses to ship (3DS) games through their website? If it's fed ex/UPS then I can't use their website because my job keeps me away from home during the day, so I wouldn't be able to be there when they show up. If it's the post office then they can just drop it off in my mailbox which I am hoping they use.

Alright I'm getting pretty fed up with this so: I call upon Shenmue/Dreamcast GAF for aid!

I picked up a Dreamcast about a week ago at a local resale video game shop, didn't work when I got home, so I went to get a second.

This one worked, for a little while. One day while playing Shenmue it froze on a loading screen (no disc noises). I did the recalibrate-laser thing and got a few more play sessions (and went through the wonderful Space Channel 5) before it broke on me again. Laser thing worked again, but I couldn't get through a full day before it would quit on me.

So I exchanged it for ANOTHER Dreamcast, but I have a new problem.

It booted up Tomb Raider (3 I think) at the game store but when I tried to resume my game of Shenmue at home it would only boot to the SEGA screen then throw me back to the menu. Whats weird is that I can still play Space Channel 5 fine though. Whats the problem here? I even tried booting the game without the VMU thinking maybe the file is corrupt and causing problems but no luck.

I don't know what else to try. What could possible be my problem now? For what its worth SP5 was brand new, and Shenmue was used but the disc is absolutely flawless.

Help :(

EDIT: Just to give more info, when I select the Music option it recognizes that Shenmue is in the Disc tray. Just tried Rayman 2 and Soul Reaver and they both work as well, so only Shenmue is being a stubborn diva.

Why didn't they just use a Phoenix Down on
Aeris?

Serious question:
Is there any way to create a "virtual" GameCube memory card on the Wii? Like using homebrew or something. My last 59 card just died :(

How slow does the PS3 install stuff?

I was downloading UC2 last night, it's 19GB, so I left it working and went to bed. I woke this morning to find the install still not complete, it's been on 90% installed for about half hour, that can't be correct right? It's fucked up isn't it?

It's slow as hell, but not that slow. Installing inFamous 2 (15 GB) took maybe half an hour or so. I wasn't paying close attention to it, but it was definitely not several hours.

I would leave it on for another hour just to be safe. Are you downloading something else at the moment? The PS3 doesn't seem to handle reading and writing from multiple sources simultaneously very well.

Also if your still downloading stuff in the background the install will become painfully slow, just pause other downloads while you install and it will pick up in speed really dramatically.

Too late, I pulled the plug. It had to do that HDD check when it came back on, and there is a corrupt 17GB file on here, the UC2 install bubble is still here, so hopefully it'll go better this time.

It worked the second time, took about half an hour to install, and when it did, the PS3 freaked out again, had to restart and check the HDD again, but since then it's fine.

The PSN version is a little disappointing though, I expected much faster loading, but alas. I didn't buy it for that anyway.

It probably is the development life cycle though. Remember that early PS1 games were in the early ages of 3D gaming on consoles. They simply learnt how to optimize the hardware better. The difference is equally as big between Tekken 1 --> Tekken 3. I seem to remember Bloody Roar 2 being 60fps aswell, which helped make it look a lot sharper.

I'm trying to watch a blu-ray movie on my ps3. And it keeps skipping like 3 minutes of a certain part. I got the disc through the blockbuster mail service. Is it just a problem with the disc ,it doesn't look like there is anything wrong with it, or does this happen with new copies too?

Can anyone tell me if Game Developers Magazine is worth a subscription? I'm just getting into the idea of making my own game. Would this be something to add to the reading list of things to help me out?

Random question:

Anyone know what region are the 3DS systems being sold in the big name electronic stores in Hong Kong?

Is it possible to swap out an old Xbox 360 controller shell with a transforming Dpad controller? I really want a better Dpad but refuse to get one until I have something that matches one of my Chatpads.

As some of you from the UK will know Shopto sometimes sell games that are the European version and not always UK. Will this European version work with DLC bought from the UK store?

Also, is there a chance that the game might arrive with a foreign box art and manual?

Probably two really dumb questions. :(

Burnout paradise dlc question.

I recently bought the game once again downloaded some of dlc I had previously deleted. I started the game up and a message popped up which said, dlc is damaged and can't be used.

My game save is fine, but none of dlc cars or the island work.

The dlc was originally purchased on an older console then moved to another. I am now on my third console. Is this a license thing?

The DLC itself was probably patched in that time. Not by a title update, but rather the DLC was reuploaded and had a different file size or something.

A while back Marvel was working on a 3D open world fighting game if I remember correctly...

Does anyone remember the name of it?

I thought there was some alpha footage as well. Am I misremembering things?

Any chance someone has more details/video?

I have 2 that do not deserve a thread, but am hoping GAF can help with.

1) Why the fuck is Demons Souls black phantom edition worth so much money on Amazon, (£100 - £200)

2) Why. On gods great earth, does the PS3 sign you out of PSN to update games, only to then sign you straight back in again?

Thanks.

If people are buying the games at £100+ then you will make a lot of money. However, if people are only listing the games at a ridiculously high price you will just end up with a large stack of useless discs. It's generally not worth investing money in video games.

Well, Play.com have it listed for £110 aswell, which is a little odd.
