This thread is for stupid GAMING questions that don't deserve their own thread

Does anyone remember if Kirby's Epic Yarn requires the pointer? I want to bring it, along with my Wii, to my friend's place later but I'd rather not bring the sensor bar if I don't have to. (I can launch the game with a Classic Controller Pro.)

Can I attach and detach a USB drive into my ps3 while it's still on? Since there isn't an option to "stop" the drive, I always assumed to just turn off the ps3 to safely remove the drive. So unless someone tells me otherwise, I'll continue to do this.

Please tell me otherwise.

I don't actually know as far as the PS3 is concerned, but if the drive in question has an activity LED that blinks when the drive is being accessed (few do, sadly) then it doesn't really matter. Just don't pull it out while the LED is on.

How big of a difference is the ags-101 and ags-001 gameboy advance sp models? Is the brightness really better? Is the screen as washed out as the 001?

Not quite a stupid question but not sure where else to ask.

I bought Peace Walker HD through Games on Demand. First time it played no problem. Went on the next day and when I launch the game the screen just goes black and I have to restart the 360. A friend suggested it was something to do with my display settings so I downloaded the game onto my family 360 and set the same display settings and used the same TV. Game is playing no problem on my family 360 but it continues to just go to the black screen on mine. I've tried deleting everything and re-downloading but I still have had no luck. So yeah any ideas GAF?

Someone posted some comparsion shots in last month's Pick-Up thread:

OH MAN IT WORKS YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS

Why am I nerding so much over the AGS-101????
Well, if you don't know what it is, the AGS-101 is a hardware revision to the GBASP that introduced a legitimate backlit screen. The screen is SO BRIGHT and the colors are just amazing.
Let me show you some comparison shots of why it's so good, next to an original SP.
Low Brightness:

High Brightness:

Dark Shot:

(except you can actually see it not-on-camera)
As you can see, the screen is just infinitely better in every way. The AGS-101 is by far the best iteration of the gameboy ever and they're relatively rare and expensive to get.

have you tried deleting your cache? it's a pretty random suggestion and i'm not sure it would even work, but it's worth a try.

Is there a place locally that I could buy a bit to open my SNES carts? I've tried the melted pen thing but it didn't work out too well.

I am thinking of getting another 360 Slim for another room and realize I have quite a few downloaded games is there anyway I can have the my DD games on both 360 systems at the same time under my profile like PSN does?

It's possible, you will just need to be online on the 2nd 360 to use your content.

If you dig around in the settings/options you can pull up a history of everything you've downloaded on your gamertag.

Is something wrong with Xbox.com? I just went there to check on the new Skyrim DLC. It said my gamerscore was 0, I had 0 messages and kept returning errors when I tried to click things like the forums to see what was going on...

cool, it will be online most of the time anyway thanks.

I know it's old but is Lair worth buying? I hear it was woeful before the controls patch. Just wondering, if anyone can remember playing it, is it worth getting with the control patch that released for it?

Do you still have to use the sixaxis for any parts?

Seems fairly cheap now so I reconsidered it.

I believe there is a demo on the Hong Kong store, I'd recommend trying it yourself.

So I just preordered Borderlands 2 on PC and I would like to ask question regarding steamworks.

This game will use that, so when I will receive the boxed version, will there be any code to redeem it on Steam (with the bonuses that come with the boxed version) or will I install the game from the disc and then add it to Steam?

Thanks

Most, if not all Steamworks boxed games come with a code you can put into Steam rather than installing from a disc.

Pretty sure it will be the same for Borderlands 2.

So in a few weeks I'll be going off to university here in the UK to study Games Technology, and I'll be taking my PS3 slim along with my tv and other items. Currently I only have the box for the slim, so when bringing the console back at Christmas and such on the train, I obviously want to avert it moving about and causing potential damage.

So can anyone suggest any good PS3 Slim carry cases that I might be able to get off the internet? I'm not such focused on other things like space for games and controllers in the actual case, just something more that will keep the console itself cushioned and protected.

From already looking around the internet I've seen a few different cases, but obviously I need some more possible suggestions before committing.

Thanks!

For what it's worth, I've done a lot of travel on trains (and more recently, planes!) with consoles in tow, and I've found wrapping them in a thick jumper works just fine. Depends how brave you are, though!

(Heck, one Christmas, I went the whole hog. Do you know you can fit a full-size tower PC in a suitcase? I do!)

Hmm yeah. Do you think a big enough laptop case would be appropriate if I cannot find a alternative and 'dedicated' carry case?

My laptop case (a backpack, as it happens) has lots of good strapping and restraint stuff that I've got a lot of confidence when my laptop's in it - but it's also a very specific size, and I'd imagine that a console would bobble about in there a bit. I don't actually own a Slim, so I'm not sure how well it'd fit in my case (and my fat PS3 is way too large, of course!)

Oh okay, will need to have a look and find the slim's dimensions and then compare them against laptop cases if that is the case. But still holding out on finding a carry case of some sort anyway. Cheers for your help anyway.

I have a question about Final Fantasy VI plot:

I'm 5 hours in and I'm playing as Sabin. I was supposed to get to Narshe. Cyan or Shadow (I forgot which one) told me earlier, that once I got through Woods, I would end up in Narshe. I defeated Ghost Train, but now, I'm suddenly in new region and I just met Gau.
Why the sudden change? I thought I'd end up in Narshe. Sorry for this stupid question, but when I played FFVI yesterday, I was very tired and might have forgotten about something.

your party split .you're playing 3 set of events for 3 different teams points of view untill they met and rejoin again ..
When you complete all 3 team adventures , the rest of the plot will advance..

You choose 1 team , you play that scénario , meet people , defeat bosses .. you reach your goal and then
you choose another team and see what happenned untill you meet them again
same thing for the third team afterwards.

it's a kind of story telling that can only work when there is as many characters playable as there are in ff6
14 playable characters

GAF, I'm interested in getting a PS2 console, since I never owned one. Do you know what's the best/cheapest place to get one from? Or at least the safest place to buy them used?

I borrowed and played some Lost Odyssey and I am currently right at that great staff.
Does that game open up more at some point or does it stay so very linear?

Later on it opens up quite a bit. You get a boat (?) to explore the sea, and later on it gets modified to fly. It's pretty cool, and there are a lot of hidden places to find by flying.

I want to play my Dreamcast on my new HD TV but I get an annoying black bar on the right side of the screen. Adjusting the aspect ratio doesn't help, and I have no idea what can cause it. I have a direct scart-cable that I use:

My screen looks like this:

Do I need a different cable or something?
