What does "le" mean in the notorious 4chan memes ?

*le driving*

etc
I french it's just an article that they put in front of almost everything, don't know why it's used in the 4chan memes though.

I can never get any sleep, Whenever I feel tired go to bed I'm suddenly very wide awake. Thinking of getting sleeping pills. Anyone here with experience with them? Anything bad I need to know?

I have a question and don't have new thread making privileges back yet (for some bizarre reason). So what do I do if I notice someone I'm in a charitable organization with has a "Skinheads" tattoo? He seems like a nice enough guy. He's got a wife and kids and is cool with me. We met in this local organization that has monthly events to raise money for various local charities. So we're coming together to do good. Yet, I see this tattoo on his arm today that says "NYC Skinheads" and heard him mention the other day something about not liking black people.

Should I ask him about it? I kinda have to associate with him because we work fairly closely within the group. But I hate all that racist bullshit. So I don't know how to proceed. What would you do, GAF?

I've used plenty of the store bought stuff, like Advil PM. It does held me nod off, especially when I gotta get to bed early, but even the weak stuff can become something you depend on too much. It's similar to excessive caffeine use, after awhile it doesn't give you a boost, you need it just to be normal.

So bad idea to start them? I don't know but I used to be able to sleep in like 5 minutes once i got into bed. Now no matter what I do I just can't. Even jerking off doesn't help. I just feel all hot and bothered after.

The real leap was prop->jet engine. After that it was all a matter of refinement.

And the jet engine was invented in the 20s-30s. So it was more like 30 or 40 years.

Nope, Roswell and alien tech.

As far as I know, it started with this flash animation, when
one of the French characters says "but I am le tired!"

I swear I've seen the "le" gag in older cartoons...maybe in Bugs Bunny or Tom and Jerry? I think it's a common way to joke about anything French. in rage comics, it's supposed to be for random comedic effect.

Also, by this logic the iOS supermegathread should have been locked and dropped months ago.

Precisely. There doesn't appear to be any sense behind which "mega" threads get locked and which don't: the movie thread (which has been active for YEARS), the self-pics thread, k-pop, quarterly anime, some non-stickied sports threads, the big Simpsons one... these all have many more posts and more ongoing activity than the music thread did, yet that gets locked. Why? Because the actual word "megathread" was in the OP? Ugh.

I don't have experience with sleeping pills, but like Snuggler mentioned, they can lead to dependance. One of the side effects listed on the bottle is "sleeplessness" because of this.

Personally, I find that I sleep the best when I continuously wake up at the same time every day (yes, even weekends). If you pick a time to wake up and stick to it, after the initial adjustment period (roughly 2 weeks), you probably won't even need an alarm clock to wake up on time. Just go to bed when you're tired and don't be worried if you aren't tired until 2 hours later than a previous night. For example, sometimes I go to bed as early as 9pm or as late as 1am or 2am (rare). But as long as I only go to bed once I feel tired and wake up at the same time, I don't have trouble falling asleep.

"Skinheads" tattoo?
Definitely a tough one. According to the Wikipedia article, the skinhead subculture wasn't based on politics or race, originally. So, maybe his affiliation with the group has nothing to do with dislike of any race. However, you said you heard him mention not liking blacks, so that's probably not the case.

Personally, I wouldn't ask him about it so that I could keep (naively) thinking that he isn't racist. If I knew for a fact that he was racist, it would just make me angry every time I had to work with him. Also, I'm scrawny and people with tattoos scare me (j/k).

Pépé Le Pew.

why is it whenever we have the urge to pee, it gets MUCH worse once you're close to home. I always find myself jumping up and down while trying to unlock the door.

Similarly, how come every single time I've had to puke after a night out drinking (except once), I didn't even feel it until I walked through my door. THEN I have to puke for an hour straight. I guess I should be thankful.

Melatonin works (well).

Hey GAF, I'm trying to find a list of tracks John Lennon made guest appearances on, had no luck, anyone know someone I can find that stuff?

Why do some cars that are used for racing have tape on their headlights, usually in an X shape? I've seen it in banger racing, touring car racing etc, but WHY?
To diffuse the point light if they are turned on (I'm guessing)

this happens to me too. it's weird. I'm usually on my couch, having a smoke, laying back, take a drag and the spins start, take another drag and suddenly I get the "oh no" feeling.

That was my hunch too, but I just Googled (I didn't bother before because I thought it was too obscure a question to come up with decent search results) and it's so that the glass doesn't shatter if there's damage due to cars kicking up stones and gravel.

Just curious but why do you think it comes from that directly?
Well, I'm not 100% sure, but my reasons are:

1. Whenever my friends (online and even IRL) use this 'le' meme, this video is definitely what they are referencing (usually followed by more quotes from the video).

2. I do not recall hearing this meme before this video. Though, 2003-5 was a long time ago.

3. The video itself was definitely viral (often the beginnings of a meme) http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/the-end-of-the-world

4. Other quotes from the video show up in various places on the net. "THEN FIRE ZE MISSILES!" probably being the most common. This line is also directly related to the "le tired" line. "WTF MATE" being the next most popular. [Editor's note: level of popularity determined solely by author's gut feeling.]

5. 'le' may be French for 'the' and some other people were talking about Pepé Le Pew and the such, but none of that really accounts for putting 'le' in front of an English adjective/verb, which is what the meme seems to be about.

6. The creator of the video may have seen the le + adjective thing used somewhere else and decided to copy it, but it would seem that other thing isn't very popular, which means it probably didn't start the meme.

You see those spinny things on the front of the Mustangs? And how the Blackbird doesn't have them? Seriously, the end of WWII was the dawn of the jet age. The Mustang took the prop-powered fighter to near the maximum of its potential, but when the jet age was ushered in, all sorts of new engineering and performance feats became possible.

You also have to consider that the Mustang was designed as a combat fighter. It had to be a highly maneuverable gun platform that could pull hard g's and take the abuse of combat. The Blackbird's particular jet technology was designed purely for speed, altitude, and being a camera platform.

I know what your getting at but jet engines work on the same principle of using propellers to move air, you just can't see them. =P

Heh. But seriously, you might as well say a car engine with a turbocharger has propellers too. Really not the same thing.

Not all skinheads are racists. Some might even say they're SHARPs. But if he looks mean he's probably a total dick, doing charity work and stuff

While you're at it why don't you buy a dresser for your shirts, or hang them in your closet?

And once you're done painting it, why don't you post the new photos again on the "Buy/Sell/Trade" Community thread?

Also...

Are Apple's commercials meant for people to hate them? I can't tell if they're actively trying to get under people's skin or that's just the end result.

The commercials are targeted towards smug douchebags and naive soccer moms.
