Is there a way to have my news feed on Facebook screen posts for keywords and then hide any posts featuring those keywords? There's a guy from my hometown who is trying to make it as a country singer and I am tired of seeing his name from people who are supporting him.

My buddy from work and his wife are having a baby in a month and I want to get them something. What should I get? I was thinking maybe a diaper genie? When it comes to this stuff I'm clueless.

Check if they are registered anywhere. You can ask them or search their names online at stores you think they might have registered at. Ask recent parents you know which baby stores are best.

Friends are having babies now and they get a lot of duplicates when people don't check the registry. They'll probably get a lot of socks, towels, bibs, etc, so don't get those things.

I looked into this a while back as a matter of curiosity, myself. It depends on the jurisdiction, certainly, but most places the inmate still has control of the disposition of his own remains. So if he or his family can still arrange whatever they want once the penitentiary releases the body. If there isn't any next of kin and the inmate isn't capable of providing for his own funerary costs the state is generally obliged to take care of it.

I know it gets trickier in the cases where an inmate dies in custody (by execution or otherwise) and the family does not wish to assume responsibility of the remains. In some places, the expense is shouldered by the state and in others, the nearest family (within reason) is compelled to take care of the cost.

Don't take this all as fact. I'm not a lawyer, I just read a lot.
thanks.

you guys know how you can link people, interestes, events, etc in your status by putting a @ in front of it?

Computer people: I currently run on Vista. If I want Windows 7 should I buy the Windows 7 Home Premium package or Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade? Also, is there a better place than Amazon to buy it?

EDIT: The reason I want 7 is cause we just got upgraded at work and I'm really digging it. And I also have a Windows 7 related question - is there a button or shortcut to get right to the desktop? I know there's that sliver on the taskbar itself that you can use if you mouse to it.

Windows key + D has gotten you to the desktop since WinXP.

How useful would studying standard Mandarin be for visiting or (maybe briefly living) in Shanghai? I know that Shanghai is part of the Wu dialect, but are most people in Shanghai also able to communicate in standard Mandarin?

Upgrade. And prices will be the same everywhere on it, so if Amazon is your preferred retailer, go for it!

It generally is a waste of money, though. The costs keep accelerating and you get no practical product from it aside from a piece of paper that says you can play by the rules for four years.

Because it's not a great experience for everyone. And it is a waste of time if you picked the wrong major and suck at it.

Why the hell iTunes splits an album because it has several artists? It seriously bugs the hell out of me.

NEVER use the Zune software then. It loves nothing more than to create a separate album for every single track if there are different artists (feat. blah blah)

GO TO GOOGLE SKY AND TYPE IN THIS CORDINATES -6.01931, -91.5903 DO THAT AND GET BACK TO ME.

the goverment is blocking out the view in the orion constellation which is the direction where niburu is coming from, they cant hide it for much longer tho were all gonna be able to see it in like 10 days i believe in plain sky

i been studying sumerian culture for almost 2 years and they talk about a planet that we havent found and that planet is suppose to pass by the orbit of venus and earth in between the two, and its suppose to cause a great distruction the la...st recorded time this probably happened was 3600 years ago that is the orbit of the planet. scientist believed summeria and atlantis were cities that were destroyed by the last time niburu cross our orbit, the goverment knows all about this but they are trying to not let us know about it so alot of people die in the destruction and only the rich and powerful will survive thus bringing a new world order after the destruction.

Not really a question, just something a friend/conspiracy nut on facebook posted. I thought I'd share. Personally I find this hilarious.

If all the tracks have the same album name just select all of them and choose "Part of a Compilation" under the "get info" option.

I just spent a week and a half mowing down a group project for Compiler Theory on my own, because the rest of the group doesn't know what they're doing. At all. Most of the teachers at this particular school have been absolutely terrible over my so-far two year run. It's a technology school, but I can't fucking access ssh on my home server.

Maybe Fairy Land U. or wherever you go to are great, but many colleges are bad places. Fuck this school.

What was the website that had a thread made about it a while back, it just had release dates for movies and DVDs and such in a really clean day by day interface? I thought it was really nice, but forgot to bookmark it. Anyone remember?

So here's what I don't get:

"Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer had a very shiny nose
And if you ever saw it, you would even say it glows"

This implies that it doesn't actually glow, it's just shiny enough to look like it does.

But then they change their damn minds halfway through the song and decide that it not only glows for real, it glows bright enough to light up the sky for Santa to see.

So what's the truth? Is it shiny or glowy? Is internal consistency too much to ask of a two minute song?

It just flows better, sometimes that more important to a song than having lyrics that make more sense.

The first university I went to is crazy. UIC. The staff at UIC did not like my family. I think they didn't realize 911Turbo is a sports car and they tried to villify me. And it sort of worked.

What makes my browser run slower? Multiple tabs or multiple windows?
Loaded and operating plugins, mostly. And a lot of reserved and filled RAM. And Flash in particular. Doesn't really matter whether it's windows or tabs, the overhead is negligible in both cases.

Why can't a WiFi device connect to two different connections at once? Ok so my computer is connected to my router which connects to the internet, but why couldn't it connect to two routers simultaneously and get internet from both routers? Like I could upload something on one connection and use the other one for browsing?

There are WiFi devices that can connect to multiple WiFi routers so that you'd do load balancing. You could alternatively use multiple WiFi devices and balance those. The standard doesn't expect this capability in one device, it's quite possible though, you just have to build the appropriate device, and de facto, it's pretty much multiple WiFi devices rolled into one. The reason for your WiFi card talking to one end at a time is that there's just one physical communication end point in that thing. You could hypothetically hop at a high frequency for alternating up- and download, there is no software I know of that does this for you though, to my knowledge. There might be some, it should be horribly inefficient though because connection establishment is a tad slow on WiFi devices, and they can't keep up connections sans communication.

It's much more complicated than that, WiFi is a bit hairy in the details.

Terrible teachers, it creates bad experiences, sometimes its better to learn stuff by your own.

stupid question: How do you learn math without solving everything by an " automatic and mindless" process?, I mean, how can anyone understand that a derivative is what it is instead of " nx^n-1"

Not sure if stupid but do any animals have an ability to turn off pain? So they can be like, "Eh, fuck it. I'm dead anyway". I checked google and couldn't find anything.

not that i would know of
doesn't really make sense that such a thing would evolve from an evolutionary standpoint
an individual has to have superior survival & reproduction chances to pass on its genes, and being able to turn off pain in the face of death adds nothing to that, really

Bought my mother a new computer today. An inexpensive Asus desktop system, as all she really does is e-mail/internet/word and her 2001 Dell was finally starting to show its age.

The computer has VGA and HDMI on it and the computer has VGA and DVI. Is DVI/HDMI that much better than VGA that I should put the money into cables & adapters or is VGA good enough?

Some animals do. Humans, for instance. Not by will, of course (or at least not without a ridiculous amount of training), but by necessity; so for example, when you hurt yourself twice, if the second injury results in more pain than the first, it tends to override the first pain. There's also some biochemical processes that eliminate pain reception for specific body parts inside the brain, and these can be triggered by a surprisingly wide range of events.

Anyway, pain as we know it is fully automatic when it comes to sending the signal from the point of injury to the brain, the only thing an organism on our scale of sophistication in terms of signal processing can do is either eliminate the sending part (like when you cool your hand until you feel nothing, for instance), or the receiving part (like when you sniff lots of coke and punch a wall), or the path from sender to processor (like when you chop your arm off to not feel the pain in your finger).

The benefit is minimal. The scientists at my imaging lab can't tell the difference in a blind test, and being able to see images is pretty important for their work.

I've been going for two years and still haven't taken a course related to my major. The gen ed requirements are ridiculous. I thought that's what High school was for. 90% of the professors I've had read off facts from a powerpoint for an hour and a half. There's only been two classes I actually enjoyed. Hopefully it gets better when I start taking courses related to what my major is.

I reformated and lost my Chrome extensions,

I need help finding/figuring out the name of an extension for Chrome. It auto loads the next page on forums/amazon/whatever site has numbered pages. I thought it was autoscroll but that's something entirely different.

It kind of depends on the quality of the hardware on each end. VGA is analog, so it needs to be converted from a digital to analog at the computer and, if you've got an LCD monitor, from analog back to digital. Those are both opportunities for signal loss. My monitor, for instance, has a terrible analog-to-digital converter and I get really bad scaling problems when I have it hooked up over VGA.

But if you have it hooked up over VGA and it looks good to you, there's no real reason to switch.

Autopager makes the extension for firefox, they may have made it for Chrome too.

Why do so many Foobar2000 skins only support older versions? What a pain is to look for nice skins that support the newer versions of Foobar.

The typical message I read while looking for skins is "THIS SETUP DOES NOT WORK WITH FOOBAR2000 0.9.5.3 OR LATER!!!".

Here's a free epiphany: Get that syllabus at the beginning of the semester and stike it out on your own. Teachers are just regular people -- they don't usually have any magic ability to transfer data into your brain efficiently (even though they've taken classes for that express purpose) -- and it's often better to learn at your own pace and then simply use the teacher's lessons to figure out their specific testing style.

Also, yell at any teacher who doesn't upload pdf (or similar) copies of their lessons onto the Internet. It's 2011. They shouldn't be expecting every individual student to copy what they write as they write it when it can be already written in the first place.
