Just a guess here, but I think that's because those are typically apartments that were converted from being rented to being owned.

the high rises I'm talking about, especially in San Jose, are all new construction. 2 new high rise condos built within the last 6 years all for sale.

It's been common for apartment buildings in SF to be converted into condos for ownership since there's no space for land development.

Its Get Loaded Festival which is in London. I live in London so there is no camping involved. The reason I ask is that, I sort of want to mae friends but suck at socialising in a sense of getting along easily towards a group of people. There are some bands I like which I am intrested but I heard going alone, unless you are sort of person who can talk to anyone, sucks.

How easy is to make acquanted with people at festivals?
Pretty easy. Concerts, festivals, cons... You're all there because you already have something in common and people wouldn't go if they wanted to keep to themselves. Just find somebody friendly looking and ask them where they're from. That'll lead to something else and you'll be surprised how much you get along.

Cheers mate! I shall buy the tickets for that festival.

(Hope its not sold out)

There was a mythbusters episode regarding this. If i'm not mistaken it really didn't matter.
They tested whether it was more fuel efficient to drive with windows down, AC off, rather than windows up and AC all cranked up.

Either way, if there was a difference (IIRC there wasn't), it was negligible at best.

The eventual conclusion was that around 40mph or slower, windows is better, above that AC is better, but the difference is minor in either direction.

I do windows 'cause my car's high blower relay is a piece of shit.

I have an external formatted for Mac, but I want to format it so I can use it with windows. Is there a way to format it on a windows PC? I've tried my laptop and desktop, but it doesn't show up. I downloaded transmac, but it only allows me to format for a mac.

Cool. The easiest way to get to know people are usually at the camp, but since there is none i couldn't say really. Only been on festivals with camps.

If you are like me, a person that's really just there for the bands (and not for the 'experience') it shouldn't really matter. I think you'll have a great time anyhow.

And as said, you're there with other people with common interests so it should be easy to make friends.

I'm looking for a song. It's pretty current and very popular. I can only picture parts of the video. It's an all male band and at some point (towards the end), the whole band is playing their instruments in a stream/river at night.

Any help?

I get pretty depressed around the same time every year... Is there something specifically wrong with me? It's always the same few months and it's been going on the last 3/4 years...

Is it in the wintertime? Get a sun lamp, maybe.

What does G/A/F mean?
In the context of "Crazy news story. G/A/F?" it stands for a multiple choice question regarding the location of the story. I believe for American stories it usually corresponds to Georgia, Arizona, and Florida since that seems to be where a lot of the nutjobs live and the stupid laws are passed. Options for non-US international news locations frequently include Germany, Australia, or France.

Hah, cheers. All these months the Off Topic index has been a game and I've never known!

It's always Germany, Australia, and Florida. Don't believe anyone who tells you otherwise.

Today I haven't been able to connect to Xbox Live after turning on my xbox without cycling the power on my router. What's going on and how can I fix it?

If you have a pulley and are lifting an object tied to one end by pulling the other, I can guess it's probably impossible to lift anything of greater mass than yourself this way without having your body in some way anchored to the ground. If you instead had an object of exactly equal mass, and you just started climbing the rope, would the object start rising and settle out evenly like a scale? After that, even the slightest disruption, like a hair or something would imbalance the whole thing?

Yup. Without an anchor it won't be going anywhere. Two or more pulleys would be needed - they significantly increase the weight you can lift.

I don't think it would move at all. If you did get it moving, it definitely would not level out, but keep going until you touched the ground.

Was there a problem with stupid question threads clogging up OT and that is why this thread was created?

Not really, it's just annoying when people post a new topic and the question is either very simple or doesn't really raise discussion.

Thanks. How exactly does adding pulleys increase lift capacity?

I've been working for my dad a bit this week. It's a very physical job and my lower back is really sore. It's bad enough I can't even bend over and can barely get out of a chair. Is heat or ice good to use on your back? I've got a heat pad on it now, but if ice is better, I've got a few ice packs I can use.

Heat will loosen up the muscles and increase blood flow, but also increase any inflammations. Ice will tighten the muscles, reduce blood flow, and reduce inflammation. What I usually do is use heat, then stretch (never stretch cold), and then ice it.

Good stretches when your lower back is sore from over-use are ones that hold your back steady. Lay on back and bring one or both of your legs up to your chest. If you can, bring a knee over.

Don't flip it until it's cooked more than halfway through and I think you can probably get away with a fork. People over-flip burgers anyway.

Very well. If it breaks, god help me. I will find you.

Can I do the butter knife thing anyways?

If it breaks, the structural integrity was bad, either not enough egg or poorly mixed or poorly shaped. If you can't make a proper burger, I'm not going to worry about you finding me. :)

Hot frying pans and tape don't really mix, I wouldn't think, but if you try it, please document for gaf.

The handddles would be taped, not the actual blades. It worked fine. And I'm not actually making decent patties and such, just sort of shoving vaguely-patty shaped piles of ground beef onto a frying pan. Hungry and half drunk.

Haha, cool, glad it worked for you.

? I dunno, that's how I was taught to make hamburger patties. Maybe like 1 egg for a 2 lb package, or whatever. Isn't noticeable after cooking, it's just to bind it better.

So, the My Little Pony fans like the show in an ironic way right? They're just being a bunch of hipsters and all that?
Nope, it's all genuine. The writing is way more intelligent and mature than you'd expect for what it is. I'd probably be into it if the voice acting wasn't so fucking annoying.

Ok, I'm feeling like a real dummy here. I'm using the new Firefox and before when I wanted to subscribe to a site's rss feed I could add it to a folder I had on my bookmark toolbar but now when I try to subscribe to an rss it only gives me an option to add it to my google homepage or my google reader. What gives here? What am I doing wrong?

I've been hearing the offtopic forum is being hidden for E3. Is that true and if so, when?
Probably when e3 starts. The server needs as much bandwidth as it can get since Gaming gets slammed every e3.

So I have a question that has been bothering me for a while. Riddle me this Hip-Hop Gaf; why do a lot of songs start with someone saying "Haters in the building" especially when it has no context to the song itself? A recent example would be Lupe Fiasco's "Show Goes On". I understand the notion that artists will always have people who will express hostility towards them but I fail to comprehend the meaning of acknowledging them being within the facility. What's the point?

Speaking of cooking, I fail at making grilled cheese sandwiches. This is my recipe:

1. Heat up pan for 2 minutes.
2. Spread butter on one side of each piece of bread (it's either too much or too little).
3. Swiftly put butter-side-down bread on pan, then cheese, then butter-side-up bread.
4. Cook each side for a minute.

The concoction is way too cheesy/buttery and the bread gets deformed when I try to flip it. The end result is a mushy ball of cheese and bread. How do I keep the bread from staying solid? I tried freezing the bread overnight, but even after being cooked it tasted bad and still couldn't keep its shape. What are your recipes?
