What's the best way to keep a 2-liter bottle of soda carbonated longer? Leaving it open while I'm drinking it or capping it, then reopening it every time I'd like to pour myself a drink?

After you've opened it and drank some, squeeze the bottle so that the bottle is indented and the soda goes all the way up to the top, then cap it real tight. With nowhere to go the fizziness shall be retained longer!

I'm not sure specific to those kinds of paying for coupon sites, but I know in general through looking up things on slickdeals.net that a lot of stores and websites don't allow more than one coupon per transaction.

Interesting! I'll try this out next time I have a bottle of soda. Much appreciated! :)

Staples.com allows you to use more than 1 coupon at checkout which made me want to abus...., I mean utilize the savings :)

So start one! Dunno if there are many folks here learning German, but there's only one way to find out.

I haven't read/used German since I played Majora's Mask in it... over 10 years ago. I kinda need someone else to do it. I've forgotten what little I knew of the language.

What would you rather have, $350 cash, or a ~$450 Walmart gift card?

And if you had the Walmart gift card, what could/would you get? (Other gift cards?, etc.)

cash, IMO. Think of it this way. If I were to buy electronics, $350 at newegg, amazon, etc. would probably go a lot further than $450 of electronics at walmart

$450 Walmart card.

That's gas for almost three months, assuming it doesn't go up much more.

I just went to someone's MySpace page to listen to her music, an action I've done in the past for other people. Is there a reason these people use MySpace for this purpose instead of Facebook? Sharing music is the only thing I ever see MySpace used for anymore.

Walmart gift card; I'd just use it on groceries and gas.

What's the easiest way to make a cutout in photoshop when there is a low color contrast between the subject and the background?

EDIT: This tutorial was helpful, and for cutting out hair I used this one

Gift card since there's enough stuff to spend it on at Walmart and it frees up my cash for other things.

In the olden days of film/TV I know how they made it look like animals were talking. Mr. Ed for example they put peanut butter under his tongue. Anyways, my question is how do they make animals look like they're talking today? Is it through an editing program?

Are there any websites out there that do a good job of analyzing music? I know of only Rolling Stone and Pitchfork, and don't particularly like either.

There's a local DJ around here that always posts links to Consequence of Sound. I've only checked them out a little bit, but they seem to have alright news/reviews... maybe you'll like it!

There was a panel discussion on TWD dvd extras where they said zombie fiction doesn't exist in that world. Otherwise people would automatically know what to do.
Thanks, I thought it was pretty odd they never mentioned zombies in the show.

OK, before I make a thread, I have a question about online coupons (redeemable at Staples). I'm trying to buy a PC monitor.

I recently just learned about coupon websites that require you to PAY for the coupon. Sites like E-junkie.com and onlinecouponshop.com. Is this legit? Is it guaranteed that the coupon will work once I pay for it? And can you combine the coupons?

Let's say the monitor costs $124. If I buy a "$25 off $100 Online Code", the total is now $99. Can I also combine that with a "$25 off $75 Online Code" to make it $74?

Or what if I'm buying a monitor + PC and the total is like $400. Can I keep combining coupons to get it all the way down to $100?

EDIT: I see the deal excludes PCs so forget the PC part.

From what I know, there are 3 types of Staples coupons.
1) Dollar Off (ie: $25 of $100, $25 off $75, etc)
2) % Coupons (ie: 20% off)
3) Rewards Coupons (ie: 25% Rewards Cash Back) (Which is basically a Staples giftcard that expires)

Usually you can use 1 coupon from all 3 groups, but sometimes it'll be an either-or scenario with the Dollar Off and % Coupons. What you're trying won't work unless there is an error b/c it can easily abused (ala getting $400 PCs for $100).

I don't understand the context, but it makes me laugh everytime I see it.

Can someone explain this gif to me? You'll be talking to someone who has not seen Inception yet.

Inception was kind of a fuck-with-your-mind, WTF kind of movie. The gif is kind of WTF. That's the only real connection. :P

How do you use foot powder? Do you leave it in your shoe when you're not wearing it, then shake it out when you want to put it on, or do you put it in right before you wear the shoe?

Ellie Goulding is going to be performing at Live@Best Buy on Saturday in NYC and I was wondering since it's free do I need to be there early. Anyone have any experience going to any of these events?

Is there a tool in GIMP that I can use to smooth edges without cutting more into the image?

You could try the blur/sharpen tool (looks like a water drop) or the smudge tool (looks like a pointing finger). Mess with the "rate" to prevent it from doing too much.

Does there exist free music software that allows you to play music at faster speeds to "chipmunk" them?

I believe Audacity will do that, though I haven't checked.

If you want to be in front, get there early but not too early.

Maybe about one or two hours before, depending how popular it is. If it's too early and nobody is there yet, just walk around somewhere else and check back when the people get there.

Also maybe if you're lucky, she'll come say hi to the early people.

Where did this trend of avatars that have "THE OT" on them come from?
If you don't know where a GAF fad is from, it's from a sports thread or the pony thread, and thus you're probably not part of either of those threads and shouldn't join in. Basically.

Hey gaf, so why are men so prevalent in both of the "perverted medical specialties": urology & gynaecology?
Shouldn't women be at least interested in dealing with penises all day long?

/edit
In retrospect: that's not even a question as much as it is a dumb observation...lol

OK, I have another question:

I'm 2 seconds away from buying this computer from Staples.

Relevant specs:

-Processor: Intel Pentium Processor E6700
-Memory: 3GB
-Type of Memory: DDR3
-Hard Drive Size: 750GB
-Operating System: Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
-Video Graphics: Intel GMA X4500 integrated graphics

Will I be able to watch HD videos without a hitch? There's a 3.7GB MKV video on my computer that I can't watch because it freezes or is literally unwatchable due to the lag. Will this new computer be able to handle a video like this?

The computer I'm on is about 7 years old and needs replacing. Been getting really buggy (and I've reformatted at least 5 or 6 times through the years) and now, it freezes up every so often when I use a wireless USB device.

Does anyone know where I can buy cool eyepatches? Like anime style ones? I know this is a weird thing to be looking up online, but I'm stoned and really want one for no particular reason.

In hostage/ransom situations what's the point? OK, sure ok Police give in to demands or whatever, and they let whoever's captive go....wouldn't the police just arrest them anyhow????

They usually have a means of escape or ask for a chopper etc... But yeah, at least in the US it almost never works out for the kidnapper.

Hostage situations usually come about by accident in which case they're hoping to use the hostage to get out of the situation alive and free where they otherwise wouldn't be able to. And a ransom is usually done from afar so that there's no clear way of knowing where the captors are, before and after they get what they ask.

I'm trying to remember the name of a short story I read a few years ago in an English class. Hopefully someone can help me. The story was about a city in which things seemed to be perfect. No crime, no disease, nothing. But in order to achieve this ideal lifestyle, the town would have to lock up an innocent person for life and completely remove all human interaction with him/her. I can't remember if the person was imprisoned from childhood or not, but regardless, the only reason the city achieved the Eden-like state they were in was because they had to "sacrifice" a completely innocent individual to a lifetime of suffering. The good of the many outweighs the good of the few, so they say. It never explains how or why locking someone up equals contentment for society at large, but that's never the issue of the story.

For years I've been trying to remember the name or author of this story, as I would love to read it again. Does anyone have a clue what I'm talking about?

I'll ask a story question as well. I read a short story where it revolves around the last day of Pompeii and a man who is ill and needs food and his loyal dog is carrying a piece of food in its mouth right when the volcano hits and so years later when they uncover Pompeii they see the dog with the food in its mouth walking into the city not out. What's the name?

Not familiar with this, but Google suggests it's "The Dog of Pompeii."
