I want to install Last.fm on the University Computer, but it won't let me as it require an adminstrator to install anything. Is there a way to open the program and scrobble my songs in University's computer?

Is there a way to trick a website into thinking each visit is from a unique visitor? I've tried using Tor/Vidalia for it but that doesn't achieve the results I'm looking.

Basically I'd like to do it for this competition that I posted in another thread. It's about voting to see who the next news anchor for their site will be. The frustrating part is it's no longer about popularity. An exploit was discovered where you can keep voting if you vote from your phone, turn off 3g, back on, reload website and then vote again. Rinse and repeat as much as possible to get ahead. I'd like to translate that to a computer to make it easier.

Any ideas? The restriction is supposed to only let you vote once an hour but as you can see, you can do it as often as you want if you go by the 3g exploit.

seems like the voting is IP restricted. with 3g you probably get a new ip every time you connect again. with tor i guess you could try to force a new exit node every time you connect again

I don't know if you've tried this already, but try deleting your cookies every time you vote. It might work that way. I've had some web sites with votes work that way.

Your router's web interface probably has a button somewhere that says "restart DSL connection" or something. This will give you a new IP address from your ADSL provider.
Figure out what POST message is required to click that button in the web interface. There's an extension called "Live HTTP Headers" that lets you look at HTTP GETs and POSTs live. So use that to figure it out.
curl that POST, curl the vote, curl the DSL redial POST, curl the vote, … (Write a bash script that does this, with a reasonable time delay after each redial because it takes some time for the provider to reconnect you.)

If your router wants you to login when you curl around on its interface, then you might want to reference the login cookie from your browser in some way.

I got side swiped on a very busy highway. Idiot changed lanes without looking and scraped along my driver's side. Totally her fault, she entered my lane without looking and hit me.

It was on an on-ramp to a bridge, so we couldn't really stop for long. We exchanged names and numbers and I wrote her license plate down.

Thing is... after the fact, I realized my phone didn't dial her number (I guess there was no service at the time? I was kind of nervous where we were sitting and wanted to get back driving ASAP), so her number didn't go into my recent calls, and I don't have her phone number now.

Of course, she hasn't called me. I don't have collision coverage, so I have to wait on this lady to file a claim with her insurance (if she even has any... I should have asked). Is it likely that she just won't file a claim since I haven't called her yet?

I have the lady's name, but it's fairly common and Google doesn't turn up anything. Not sure what to do, any advice? My insurance said they can't do anything with her license plate # as they don't have the capability to look someone up like that.

Am I basically screwed if they don't file a claim with their insurance?

Why is Star Wars not named Stars Wars or Wars of the Stars? I mean they are fighting in more than one solar system, so it should have been plural, right?

Or is the wars about or against the Death Star? There was more than one, nevertheless.

Compound nouns are formed with the singular for the first parts. The same reason it would be Banana Baskets or Elder Scrolls.

This sounds genius. But I have no idea how to do it.

I have a folder that I found in one of my old hdd that has all my favorites I believe from IE years back. The Favorite folder is on my desktop now but how do I import all those favorite links to Google Chrome?

How important is the college you graduate from? The reason I ask is because I can either go to the main state university that is known and respected, or a university that recently went from being a 2-year state college to a university.

The only reason I'm really considering it is because it would be an easier drive than the other university, which is about as big of a pain in the ass to get to as you can get.

why are there 24 hours in a day? why are there 365 days in a year?
That would be how long the earth takes to rotate once on its axis, and how long the earth takes to orbit the sun. If you're asking how we arrived at 24 hours instead of say... 10, I have no idea.

Wikipedia suggests it's to match the number of hours in a day with the number of months in a year. Dunno how much truth there is to that.

Ancient Egyptians used sundials that "divided a sunlit day into 10 parts plus two "twilight hours" in the morning and evening."[2]

The Greek astronomer, Andronicus of Cyrrhus, oversaw the construction of a horologion called the Tower of the Winds in Athens during the first century BCE. This structure tracked a 24-hour day using both sundials and mechanical hour indicators.[2]

Ancient Sumer, India, and China also divided days into either one twelfth of the time between sunrise and sunset or one twenty-fourth of a full day[citation needed].[dubious – discuss] In either case the division reflected the widespread use of a duodecimal numbering system. The importance of 12 has been attributed to the number of lunar cycles in a year.

How come you're still able to perceive depth when you close one eye? I thought two eyes are required to see in three dimensions...

just a stab in the dark here really, but i dont think you actually can. its just with shadows and perspective and other information your brain can interpret where things are supposed to be in 3d space. i mean, closing one eye while sitting at your desk, you already know where everything is and your brain just fills in the gaps, so to speak. try to use the 3ds with one eye closed, i doubt you'll be able to interpret the 3d effect.

but i suppose i could be wrong.

There are many visual cues that your brain uses to determine distances. Including perspective, occlusion (objects moving in front of each other), parallax, light and shadows, and texture gradients.

Stereopsis is powerful, but not required for depth perception.

Is there any way I can find out if my netbook has DDR2 or DDR3 RAM? It doesn't tell me anywhere that I can see.
What's the make/model number? Manufacturers web site should have some details.

Write down the model number and take a look on the manufacturer's website. There is usually a detailed spec sheet with that kind of information.

if you are able to use the computer then download Speccy and it should tell you there. Otherwise you can take out the ram and see if the sticker says what type it is or do what the dudes above me said.

Hm I was thinking about this the other day for some odd reason. Say a family member dies and leaves no will. If they have a lot of money in the bank how is that handled? Does the immediate family get the money? Weird question but it just crossed my mind the other day.

Yep.

If someone dies intestate, their assets would generally go the next of kin (spouse, kids). How that's determined depends on local laws.

Prostate question.. why can't i do it my self, i have to lay there and have my girlfriend stimulate me..

Shit is relaxing, i ain't a massage kinda guy so this is the best thing since sliced bread.

Why am I unable to find all posts that I made? It seems related to being a junior member. I get an error that I don't have sufficient privs to do this.

I had wanted to find my WTB post in order to update it.

Feature is disabled. I think EviLore said it was coming back soon though.

I have a plug that says it outputs 11.5V - 1.6 A. Will I be able to use this to power my router which usually uses "12VDC, 1A"?

Hopefully that means something to someone because it means nothing to me.

A netbook won't be running DDR3 ram because it would need a processor like the i7 to be able to take full advantage of how the ram works.

simplified.

Not a weird question. It would make my job easier if people thought about it more.

Generally speaking no one has access to that account immeditaely until the courts say so unless someone living is on the account as well. We recommend older people (Anyone can though) list a beneficiary on the account so they don't have to go through a big process.

It SHOULD be okay. The plug that you have provides 18W of power, which is more than 12W of power that your router needs.

The only thing that could be iffy is the voltage. Depending on how good the circuit is in terms of tolerance, it may or may not work. I don't know if there is any protection on the router's side (though any good device will have protection), but 0.5v should be okay. I'm certain it will not do any harm, but I'm not responsible for it if you get a new paperweight... :D

Here's one that probably is truly stupid:

Does digital media expire? I've been purchasing books on Kindle for a year now, and I've been thinking of downloading a few albums from iTunes, but I have this (probably irrational) fear that in five or ten years time I will need to repurchase these things.

It should not expire unless that specific vendor put it in the file to disable itself. I know some textbook publishers do this (scum of the fucking earth), but I think iTunes is fine. No experience with Kindle stuff though.
