That means you're looking for a netbook. They'll do the job better at 1/8 the price.

How would a netbook do the job better and which ones cost an 1/8 of a Macbook Air?

Honest answer:

An Air would be great for classroom environment. But they do come at a premium versus netbooks (up to $1000+ new, but Apple give generous discounts to students). They're exceptionally well built, made from aluminum, and come standard with SSDs, perfect for bouncing around in a backpack.

How would I activate all 4 of my processor's threads? CPU-Z says only 2 are activated, yet when I built my machine on Dell.com it said the processor has 4 threads.

This is specifically on the m11xR2 i5 model

Are there any apps (for win7, not iphone/android) or easy to understand websites for time zone conversions? >_< Quantum physics is easier to understand :lol

There's also this: http://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/777838-rel-gmail-notifier-plus-for-windows-7/
Gmail icon on your taskbar that shows up with a number when you get a new message. It can also play a sound. Been using it since W7 beta, I like having it in the taskbar instead of having to have a browser open to look at it.

New Question:

If one were to correlate the audio quality of a high-end, studio recorded cassette tape, and turn that into the audio language of the day, where would it clock in?

128kbps/44hz - or higher? Or lower? Or is it just impossible to make that comparison at all?

I have a couple more...

1) 5-6 years ago there was a thing called "WikiQuickie"v for Firefox. I guess its closest analog would be a custom Greasemonkey script, if it wasn't one to begin with. I've looked and not found either. It was really neat too - I wikipedia stuff -god - has to be on the order of once per hour.

Anyway, there was a quick keystroke or even a small UI button you could click, get a dialog box with a field in it, you type into it, hit return and you're sent to the matching Wikipedia page. Not sure why it didn't catch on and hasn't made other devs go hmmmm....

ALSO!!!

2) God I have been meaning to ask this forever. On sites like photobucket where you can upload files, then select html or bbs code to plop on a page. Sometimes you click it and you're told that it has saved the code to memory.
How in the world is this possible without opening huuuuge security problems? No idea how that hasn't been widespread hacked to hell and used for nefarious purposes. First time I saw it I was thinking, not so funny Bonzi Buddy. Now I trust it but how the hell does that work?
Sure seems like a wide open way into your system - but maybe it's writing to some kind of super safe memory - just - no idea. Sure would love to get those answered if anyone has time

Are there any over-the-counter topical NSAIDs (creams, gels whatever) available in the US?

check out https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/click-search/

normal firefox you can highlight text, right click, click 'search google for "xxxxxx"' and it will open a new window. this addon adds wikipedia and some other sites to that list

2) are you just talking about something saving text to your clipboard?

Alright, I asked about cords to hook up a computer to a TV a few days ago, and I've problems now. The laptop does not have an HDMI port, so I bought a VGA to HDMI cord. I got the cord today, and if I try to plug in the cord, the TV starts making a clicking noise and turning on and off really quickly. It does not stop doing that until unplug the cord from the TV. Am I doing something wrong? Did I get the wrong kind of cord? Is it possible to the computer that has no HDMI port hooked up to the TV?

P.S. this is the cord I bought: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...94657&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT#ht_1707wt_1139

I don't know if this counts as a stupid question or if I'm just too horribly naive, but how do all the details from Japanese magazines like Famitsu, Jump, etc. always leak so easily ahead of their street sale date? Are there that many people along the production line who don't care about the rules? I know it makes things easier for us consumers to get info as soon as possible, but just once I think it'd be nice if the companies could actually control their information, release it when they planned to, and not have it leak all over the place.

Who is the owner/ boss of NeoGAF? I always imagine something like this:

Amir0x: w-w-w-what should I do with him, sir?

Dr. Claw: BAN HIM!

I remember reading a poem in high school lit class and was wondering if it sounded familiar to anyone else.

From what I recall, the poem was by some poet who spoke at an inauguration.

The premise of the poem was about roadkill and how instead of avoiding them, you should stop, and back up and run over them again. Something about helping to bury them?

Weird poem I know.. any help identifying it would be appreciated.

Saw this and just had to make a new 'banned!' gif. Feel free to use where applicable. :D

Higher, for sure. Full range of dynamics, but the tape hiss / static noise negates some of the effect

So, applied for a job at usaid.gov

Is this lunacy?

Also, if I get the job, and decide to go. How long should I hide it from Mom?

My mom put cans of watermelon soda in my luggage without me knowing. One of the cans compressed mid-flight and spilled. I only unpacked today, 3 weeks later, and there was mold on some of my clothes. How do I wash mold off? 3 of my favorite shirts are at risk of being thrown away.

Whats up with copyright infringement?

If anything looks like a certain logo is that infringement? Ex. Coca Cola logo
Coca-Cola-Art_Enjoy_Logo_Ribbon.jpg
,
but instead I say Joke-a Cola in the same font keep the white swoosh and red background as well. Thats infringement right?

If you trademarked a logo like that and tried to sell a product you can get in trouble, yes.

So if it looks vaguely like the original its a no go?
Just look at all the big companies like Apple and Monster killing off small companies for just having logos in the same shape as theirs.

Yeah I get all that. I'm doing something on such a small scale that the only way it would blow up is purely word of mouth, but if it indeed blows up I don't want letters from lawyers. Thanks for the quick answers.

Basically. Long story short: I've learned and relearned HTML and CSS 2 times in my life. When I was 13 and then 17. Unfortunately I've forgotten these skills again now that I'm 21 and I kinda want to make a new website again(i usually just make websites and shit as a sort of hobby).

Thing is, in the past I usually just look at the old websites and stuff that I've made in the past and just go from there. Unfortunately I do not have any of my old stuff anymore. I would also check out htmlgoodies or something for shit that I couldn't figure out on my own.

Basically what I'm wondering: what is a good website or something that can basically re-teach me HTML and CSS again. Maybe some PHP too, I've used it quite a bit in the past. Doesn't have to be beginner level or anything, usually if I've learned something and forgot it I can pick it up again pretty quickly. Just looking for something to get me past looking at my text editor like an idiot.

Does anyone know how to fix this problem with Chrome? Basically whenever I enter a thread that's image heavy, most of the images and gifs won't load and will only show the broken icon. I don't think it's my computer settings because firefox and IE don't have trouble loading images on forums. I searched google and didn't find any solution that worked. I really like Chrome because it's fast but the broken image thing is holding me back from switching over.

Sorry I really need an answer for this...

Please leave your suspicions and judegement at the door.. I just need a quick answer from IT GAF...

When I download something from a FTP site, how much of my information is recorded on the side of the FTP site owner?

ie: time and location and IP of the downloader, or only one of these three? like only the time?

If this FTP site is accessed by many, would they know it's me that downloaded the files?

I know this all sounds shady, but it seriously isn't I just like to know for security reasons.

Anyway I don't think I am explaining this clearly, but if anyone can help I'll appreciate it.

It would record the time and IP address which would point to an ISP provider and area/city. But whoever had access to that info would need to contact the ISP to get further info about the user behind that IP address (eg, name, address).

I'm not sure if there are many people on GAF who can answer this question, but here goes:

Is there any way to live stream audio (from a website) while allowing seeking (as in selecting already recorded parts and listening to that)? While I was recording a random radio network to test it out, starttime as defined in the *.asx file didn't work since the streaming file isn't complete (as it's still live streaming) and an index which essentially allows streaming hasn't been created yet.

I was wondering is there another method to deliver live audio on the internet? It seems that it won't work with *.asx because of the indexing limitation. I'm new to this area and Googling hasn't really helped much.

Any help appreciated.

I have a family friend who is suffering under horrific, abusive working conditions. The supervisor is verbally and emotionally abusive, and is physically menacing. She regularly withholds pay, or reduces pay, and has caused my friend and their partner much anguish.

Where can they report this person? This company is so small they have no HR recourse. To boot, this person is illegal but my friend hesitates to call immigration services because quite a few others there are illegal themselves.

And no, the friend is not illegal, which makes this more absurd.
