I'm having an unholy amount of difficulty connecting my new Microsoft bluetooth mouse to my laptop which has a bluetooth receiver. It registers when I'm connected via the dongle but I can never get the damn thing to be picked up by my laptop's build in transceiver. I'm using Windows 7.

Steps i'm following:

Mouse is on
Laptop bluetooth is on
Set it to search for devices via control panel
Set my mouse into discovery mode

aaaaand squat.

What gives? I don't want a dongle in my PC. That's why I bought a bluetooth mouse!

And as always Microsoft instructions manual are useless.

Is there a button you can hold down on the bottom of the mouse that resets it, makes it discoverable?

What do people in the work environment usually eat for lunch? Do you bring it from home or go out? I've been going out to eat during my lunch break but the expense is adding up. The damned break room is depressing as hell, so I try to avoid it. Even if I did eat in there, I wouldn't know what to bring, a shitty sandwich or something?

Left overs are great. Most break rooms these days have fridges and microwaves.
Do you have a place where employees gather outside? You can eat there.

I was going to say a sandwich.. don't know why it has to be "shitty," it's not like your mom is making it for you. Make a sandwich that you would enjoy eating. Ham and swiss with lettuce mustard and miracle whip mm mmmmm.

There was an employee area that we would always eat in during our lunch break when I worked at Circuit City. Some people would bring food in for later, but there was also a multitude of places within walking distance to get a bite. McDonald's, Boston Market, 7-11, etc.

To address your other point about your break room being depressing, you don't have a TV or something in there? You could always try bringing in a DS or PSP or something to help kill time after you're done eating.

I work in the same building as my father so I drive over to my parents' place and ride with him every morning. Saves a hell of a lot of gas, but it means I can't go out to eat for lunch.

I usually bring a peanut butter sandwich or one of those little Easy Mac bowls and eat at my cubicle. I've been told eating by yourself in your cubicle is kind of pathetic/anti-social, but there's never any room in the breakroom and everyone in there is awfully loud (talking over an already loud TV and all) which makes watching stuff on my phone kind of difficult.

I don't have a break room so I just eat at my desk, better than spending $10 per day eating out

Leftovers and I usually eat at my desk and browse gaf. I'm very social outside of work, no need to pretend to be interested in my coworkers. I have friends who work nearby and occasionally we'll go out to eat, but then we end up taking an hour and a half at least.

My breakroom doesn't even have a tv. It's also very small with a few tables so socializing is a must. I work at a hotel so I socialize for a living, sure don't want to do it during my break. I suppose I could bring a sandwich and eat it somewhere else.

So my mom is going on a trip to China in a couple of weeks and I'm looking for the best way for her to be able to call home. She's got a Droid X so making VoIP calls over WiFi or similar would be preferable. But I understand a lot of services like that are blocked to international traffic. Any suggestions?

I've just come across a Japanese porn parody of Death Note called 'Meath Note'.
What the hell does that even mean?
Meath = Death + Meat
MEAT NOTE
get it?

another possible explanation would be:
Meath = Death + Meth

Any ideas on where I can buy Travel Cards for London cabs and subway? :) Going on a family trip and we need 4 cheap week long tickets :)

I have an adorable pug, but I can't give much of an advice when it comes to breeders or the dog's look.
I can tell you some things, though. :P

We got the dog from a pet shop. We told them we wanted one, and they got in touch with breeders, and sent us some pictures of the puppies.
I guess common sense applies here: don't get puppies from a breeder that doesn't inspire confidence.
Pugs are well known for having breathing difficulties, so you might want to ask for references about if the puppies' parents have troubles breathing or not. Mind you, all pugs snore and breathe loudly, but you'll want to avoid serious issues.
I heard it's also good if they have a continuous wrinkle above their mouth. I mean, not various wrinkles, but just one big one. I don't really know why, but I'd guess this is related to breathing and health somehow.

Finally, our puppy was very cross-eyed when we got her, but it got better as time went by, and when she became an adult she wasn't cross-eyed anymore.

A picture from her:
http://instagr.am/p/DBlB4/

Post pictures of your puppy once you get them! :)

edit: oh, BTW, pugs are SUPER friendly, they'll follow you anywhere you go, and they'll be very happy if you play with them.
They're mostly indoor dogs, because of the breathing issues. Longs walks under hot sun are a no-no.
And though they have short hair, they lose it A LOT.

If I ever had to choose again, I'd get another pug eyes closed. I think it's the best thing my girlfriend and I have done for the last couple of years.
Wow, I didn't expect to get a reply. Thanks for all of that info, especially the parts on how your puppy was cross-eyed. I've seen a lot of pictures of puppies and a good amount looked... bad. But hearing how yours started cross-eyed and adjusted (and going by the picture looks awesome) makes me feel a lot better.

What kind of pet store did you go to? A local shop that already sells dogs? The only pet shops around me have no dogs and are big retail chains (ie. Petsmart).

Thanks again!

You should have the vid you uploaded in the folder that uTorrent downloads to. So when you download the .torrent uTorrent will scan the file and start you as a seeder. If it doesn't do that, you can right click and select "Force Re-Check" if it still doesn't put you as a seeder you probably have the video in the wrong folder.

ah, i had the video in the same folder as the torrent, which is not the download folder
thanks, will try if it works now

edit: it starts seeding, then the arrow turns red and it says 'hashfails' in the description bar
man, fuck this shit

edit2: still says hashfails but it's working anyway after i tried the 'force' option
already got 3 leechers after 5 minutes, lol

Would still like to know if anyone knows about the speaker issue I was having, but also another question. Are the USB ports on newer TVs usually powered? I know the Vizio 22" I was looking into getting apparently has issues with its USB functionality missing as far as being used for photos and such, but would it still be usable as a 5V power source?

It's a shame so many questions find no answer in this thread.

We went to a local pet store. They sold dogs, and had actually a few exposed. When we showed interest in getting a pug they said they could take care of getting in touch with breeders, and so they did.

I think they charged us like
750 €
for the puppy, in case it can be useful to you as a reference.

"This is Vegas" sounded like a promising next gen title. $50 million and 4 years later I hear that Warner took it from Midway and placed it in the trash. Informed insiders say it was all but complete.

Why would Warner do this? I know it didn't cost them anything to develop it, but surely they could make some kind of profit from the assets, even if it was just simply selling it to a third party for release?

There was a thread about gifs that work wonderfully with certain pieces of music. A Robocop mash-up was a definite standout of said thread. However, I am unable to find it and would appreciate any help in the matter.

So, I'm looking into getting a new desktop and I have few questions.

  • what's cheaper? Buying a prebuilt or building your own?
  • if I go Prebuilt which brand is best for a desktop?
  • I've never built a computer. Where would be the best place to start if I decide to build my own?

I just got an ipod Nano 6th gen as a gift. I've never owned an apple product. Last night I plugged it in to my Windows 7 computer, and my computer wouldn't finish the start up correctly and had to be restarted in safe mode. Then it was slow as shit the whole time it was on, wouldn't let me see the ipod, and wouldn't shut down correctly. The ipod meanwhile thought it was still connected and wouldn't shut down, but I left it all night and it ran out of power.

Now it seems like both computer and ipod are ok.

I've only had a Sansa Clip, which I just opened as a folder on my desktop and dragged mp3s into. I never created playlists.

I use Media Player Classic. I have a cd player and no auxiliary plug in my car. I'm probably average with computer knowledge and I love music but for some reason I'm really simple with music on the computer.

So what's the easiest way to use this thing? I see I can open it as a folder, so I assume I could just drag files into it, but it's got a playlist feature so I guess that would be cool to use.

Sunk costs. Doesn't matter how much was already spent on it, just how much more needed to be spent and how much would be made.

If it was possible to profit on it somehow, I'm sure they would have.

newegg.com is generally recommended by most people I know for putting together a machine. If there's one in your area, I recommend keeping MicroCenter in mind, as they have loads of helpful parts lying around.

If it's an iPod, the simplest thing to do would be to download iTunes and have it scan your music folders. From there you can create and manage playlists and various other things.

So today I was enrolling in a college course and I had to do a short English test. Part of it gave a block of text and you had to add commas. Now my written English is just okay, I got a C at GCSE level. Anyway, after I finished I was told I passed but the section on punctuation was were I had made the most errors.

Now outside of a few rules, lists for example. How strict can somebody be on commas? I would have imagined that their usage, for the most part, is left to the writer's discretion. Apparently not. Can somebody shed some light on this please?

Guessing by your post I'm gonna say you think building one is much cheaper? Also, I've never built a comouter before so I need more then a site to buy the stuff from.

That's more than can really be answered in a single forum post.

Here's some good info: http://grammar.ccc.commnet.edu/grammar/commas.htm

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but why does every state get 2 senators?

I mean, I understand that it was decided in a compromise to make small states happy, but why did we keep the rule? Why do small states deserve the same voice as large ones? Wouldn't it be more democratic to base everything off of population?

Like you say, it was a compromise. As for why we kept it... well, good luck ever getting rid of it.

Wouldn't it be more democratic to base everything off of population?
Thus, the House.

That is the houses job to "represent" the population totals of the given state...

And I think...don't quote me on it, but somewhere it said that there was a bicameral system with two senators to "prevent tyranny".

That's what I was afraid of. I had iTunes on my computer a few years ago just to see it, and hated it. Made everything slow and there was too much going on. I like simple. But seems like that might be the only way to go, from what others are telling me. Thanks.

It's actually pretty damn easy, pretty much just legos with electronic parts. Usually the part people fuck up is the headsink/thermal paste when mounting the heatsink on the cpu. Worst that usually happens is it'll run hotter, and possibly shut down.

Newegg even has a series of videos

It's much cheaper and easy to do. You're not soldering on transistors or anything like that you simply plug in your Video Card, RAM, and Processor into their respective slots, plug the cords in for your hard drive and power supply, and screw the motherboard onto the case. Everything is color coded and you can't actually fit anything together the wrong way. Like Ferrio said the hardest part is where you have to put your heatsink on but that just requires... essentially, putting some goop evenly on your processor so the fan you attach on top can keep it cool.
