I am an in betweener when it comes to religion. I don't stick to one religion. I follow God but I don't go to church and all that because I don't like all the churches guidelines. With that aside my Cousins two children had a christening yesterday. Her X boyfriend was gonna be a god father to one of the Children. He didn't show up. So, she asked me to be the God Father. Without knowing all the Guidelines I said yes. Even though I don't believe and some of the things that were said like making the Child going to church every Sunday do I still have to follow those rules? Also, the child is 6 months old. How am I supposed to make a 6 month old go to church? Call her Mother every Sunday and say "She better be going to church."?

Does anyone have a link to that man-turns-into-a-fighter-jet-and-flies-away gif?

It is so very awesome, I need to save and catalogue it before everybody in the world forgets.

Random tech question. Don't know if it's even possible, but is there a way to pull up what a webpage looked like on a specific date in your cache or by any other means? I want to pull up a webpage that I visited last week that no longer has the information I need on it anymore. And if so, how?

Any way to shrink the resolution or something on a pdf file? I have a file of jsut under 200 pages and it's about 35MB I think. My psp can't handle this kind of load without lag (and uping the mhz to the extreme) :(

Unix problem: No matter what I type after newzmat I get the following message. "Segmentation Fault". It's driving me nuts. Now I know I haven't typed anything wrong in the command because it was working just fine four days ago. I type in the exact same command message and now I only get "Segmentation Fault". Does anyone know the cause of this? This has been bothering me for the past month because it's happened before as well. Except the last few other times it would say something along the lines of "Illegal Linkel at Moltyp..." and some other nonsense. Btw I'm not in charge of the unix system I'm speaking of I just have an account on it.

What are you using to create the PDF? You can always customize the resolution and compression of the jpeg images (if any) when you save in whichever program.

Another wisdom teeth question, sorry guys.

My stitches were in pretty secure but now they are just like loose strings hanging around in my mouth. Do they eventually just fall out or what?

Generally the dentist makes a follow-up appointment, and the stitches generally start to come out before then, but not completely, so the dentist finishes the removal process and also makes sure everything is healing properly. It wouldn't hurt to at least call the office; the dentist should get back to you.

Ah, okay good. I forgot I have a follow-up appointment Friday haha. Can't wait for it, the recovery is such a pain...

This certainly does not deserve its own thread, not that I could make one anyways. I am having trouble answering this question though, a math question at that. Just a little bit of help would do, I am at a standstill I cannot figure it out.

A rectangular field with base x and height 2r is surmounted by two semicircular fields, as shown in the diagram below (note from me: basically looks like a track field). The external perimeter of the fields (solid blue track) is 700 meters. Answer the following:
a) Express the area of the rectangular field (shaded green) in terms of r
Area =

and

b) Determine the maximum area enclosed by the rectangular field. (Type "pi" if you need it, or look in the MathPad Greek list. Decimal approximations are marked incorrect.)

I didn't have a follow-up appointment. It depends what type of stitches you got, but my dentist said that the stitches I had would dissolve, especially if I drank more acidic things like pop or orange juice. And sure enough, they did.

Honestly it's one of the most painful procedures there are, but the worst of it is over and it definitely starts to get much better soon.

I haven't had anything acidic so far. I think the mouth wash stuff they gave me might be for that, I have to use it twice a day but I'm not really sure why. I don't think mine are going to dissolve though since they are nearly about to fall out.

It's a relief to hear that. It was definitely horrible for the first few days but it's getting better. I can't wait to eat solid food again :)

im gonna let 2r = 2y, and let r represent the radius of the semicircles

so area of rectangle=2yx
circumference of 2 semicircles+rectangle = 700 = 2*pi*r +2*2y
that simplifies to y=(700-2*pi*r)/4
substitute that into the area of a rectangle to get area of rectangle = [x(700-2*pi*r)]/2
now just realize that x=2r, or r=x/2, and sum that in to get area of rectangle = [x(700-2*pi*x/2)]/2

which simplified down to A=350x - pi*x^2 now we want to find the maximum. i forget how, and there are plenty better places on the net to learn, so i just plugged it in here: http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=A%3D350x-pix^2 to find that the maximum of A = 30625/pi and occurs when x=175/pi

I wouldn't say that... at least, not from my experience. Mine was basically painless and there was barely any blood. Plus I got carried away with chips and shit a week after and got an infection and had to go in for surgery again to get it fixed. Still didn't hurt though.

It hurt more getting needles put at the back of my mouth to get cavities filled

I'm not the file creator :) So I don't know. Can I do anything with an already created file via acrobat reader or something?

does facebook read your email address book and suggest friends through that?

im certain it does cause my real estate agent and this american girl i used to talk to on icq (lol) keep on being suggested as friends when no one i know, knows them

It definetly gives you the option to do it but I don't think it would do it automatically.

Windows 7. Download folder.
It automatically keeps optimizing itself for Pictures.
Any way to prevent this?

I stopped doing that as a side effect of moving the download folder to point at a different location on another drive. Off the top of my head, I can't remember how, but it's something to do with changing the location of "libraries" - you can even have 5 or 6 different download folders all pointing into one if you want...

What is it called when you speak in a certain way and it causes someones brain to lock up? Its a technique I employ when dealing with an awkward client, and is hugely effective, but can't for the life of me recall its name.

@stuburns: its fine for me

You may, open it up in acrobat and go to save as - poke around and you might find a compression tab or an "optimize" section - sorry I can't provide exact instructions

I honestly have no idea what you even mean by this.

My cousin is coming over from Hong Kong for a visit and I'm wondering what's good to get as he has asked me what I would like from there. Any suggestions?

Sounds like you were sort of lucky. I don't mean it's the most painful ever, but of the procedures that most people have to go through in their life, it's pretty bad.

Yeah, that was my first thought. I was going to say something about Bene Gesserit but I thought that might not be what the dude was looking for. ;)

My PC all of a sudden doesn't output sound. I'm lost. When I click on that little speaker icon in the bottom right corner, it says sound is coming through, and I've tried two different sets of speakers. So, yeah, any ideas?

EDIT -- It works now! I guess I just needed to ask for help on GAF

EDIT 2 -- Thank Blackheim. I hate troubleshooting PC hardware.

Win7?

Try this:

Start Menu -> Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Under sound: Manage Audio Devices

Make sure the source of your sound is the one that's selected as the proper Output. If that doesn't help ... :(

Quoting a fair price for yourself.

What is a "fake edit"? I've seen it used numerous of times, did the person not edited his post so it's fake? Why would he do that?
It's a ninja edit without submitting the post beforehand.

Sometimes posters like what they wrote, but found an addendum after already being on the way to hitting submit. So they add a fake edit. Sort of like a PS for the internet.
