In my short time here, I've really enjoyed and benefited from being a member of the GAF community.

I've saved 100s on game deals, got some decent valuable advice from threads like this, got turned on to new games I'd previously overlooked and now I even have a google plus invite!

I'd like to give back to GAF. Is there a donation policy or anything like that?

FREE to a good home thread. Get rid of some of your old stuff to an appreciative GAFfer.

Random tech question , I formatted my external hard rive so that I could fit on big HD movies , but then my ps3 wouldn't pick it up , so I formatted it again because I saw somewhere that the ps3 only detects files under 2gigs on a external hard drive, but even formatted to 2 gigs a file size it still not picking it up?

I'm pretty sure a PS3 can't view or play all types of video/audio files because of licensing issues. What format are you trying to play?

Ya I am sure it cant , I sometimes get a file not supported error , but the problem is that it used to detect the hard rive with a whole bunch of SD movies on it under 1 gig and you could press triangle and display them, then I formatted it to fit files that are 10 gig,s on it and then the ps3 stopped detecting the external , so I formatted it again back to its original state but ps3 still wont pick it up?

Is it this one?

I'm really just teasing.

Give your brother something from the heart. If you've got a creative talent, why not follow that route?
Or maybe cook something incredibly awesome.
Or get him a ticket for something fun he wouldn't even think about doing himself, like a hot air balloon ride or a city underground tour. Stuff like that.

Thanks for the suggestions. I wasn't supposed to see him tonight but things ended up changing and so I literally only have about a half hour between work and meeting up with him to get him a present. I decided on "Cedar Rapids" because I'm hoping since it wasn't released in too many theaters, he hasn't really heard of it. I haven't seen it, but I heard it's pretty funny. Can anyone back that up?

I posted the other day that my Win7 PC has sound issues, in that I don't get sound from my speakers. I un/replugged in all of my cables and that seemed to fix it, but the problem is back. I think it has something to do with my HDMI port. I changed the cable the last time and that did the trick, but it's still acting up. Does a problem with my HDMI port even make sense? I've never heard of such a thing.

At the end of the Meet the Spy video what does the spy say in French, and what is the English translation?

Edit:

Right click the speaker icon at the right hand side of your taskbar. Click "Playback Devices" and check to see if you have HDMI Audio or Speakers selected.

The default is "HDMI audio," but even when I switch to the other options, it doesn't work.

Hey, can anyone point me to the thread where we played a game in which a photo was shown, and we all had to come up with a comment on it. Then we all voted on the best comment. It was really fun.

Thanks

"Ah ma petit choux-fleur" which is (faux)french for "Ah my little cauliflower"

With my recent change to Member status I thought I'd be able to see threads I've posted in but it still says I don't have permission to access that info. on here. Do I have to be a mod or something?

Search function was disabled some time ago to ease strain on the servers.

Apparently, getting it back up is EviLore's #2 priority.

Use the auto-subscribe functionality, it works brilliantly.

Quoting a fair price for yourself.
Jeff Gerstmann used it in his podcast a few weeks ago, I was catching up on bombcasts and he said 'if not me then who, if not now then when' the lockdown doesn't last that long, maybe a few seconds. But that could make or break a negotiation.

I still can't find the definition for it.

Okay, suppose I'm writing a novel in Microsoft Word.

How do I make it so that new chapters ALWAYS begin on a new page and stay that way even if I go back and add paragraphs to older chapters?

Bananakin said:
Just put in a page break at the end of each chapter (Insert -> Page Break).

I did that, but for some reason it puts the start of the new chapter about a third of the way down the page.

I want each chapter to start at the top of the page.

This isn't exactly stupid question, but I need to ask it.

I remember a program from when i was a kid. It had a BBC or PBS feel to it. It was english language but I don't remember if anyone had a particular accent. I don't know if it was a series or a film. What I remember is:

A person or small group of persons in a cavern. They are walking on a path created by ridges that rise about knee high out of the floor of the cavern. The ridges are several feet apart basically turning the cavern floor into a tangle of paths. As the group walks the path they end up in a different time/place/dimension and have some sort of adventure there before returning to the path. I think they were trying to get home. I also think there was one part/episode where they accidentally picked up a spider (maybe a tarantula) during one adventure and took it to the next where it may have bitten someone.

I bring this up because lately the past few nights as I've been trying to sleep, memories of this program would pop into my head and now I'm dying to find out what it is. Please, for my sanity, does anyone know what this program was?

I've never used mods in a game before. I just bought Oblivion on Steam. I want to use mods, but holy fuck I'm reading the guides and sites and trying to install the essential programs...it all just seems very confusing. Am I just overwhelmed by it all or is it easier than I think?

I've been modding games for quite a while and I could never really get mods in Oblivion to work properly. There's just so many things you need just to get started, and theres no real cohesive guide. This may help http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=405321

Are you talking about iSketch? There have been a lot of threads about it so I'm not sure which you're looking for.

I really want to create a thread on the dumbest show I've ever watched; Finding Bigfoot. Is this a good or bad idea?

People have to see this. It is insanely dumb!!!!

When people say that you "need job experience", do they mean in whatever specific field, or just a good work history? I see this all the time, but it is always referenced differently and sometimes it makes it sound like you just need a good work history and other times it sounds like you need experience in a specific field.

Normally I would assume it means in a specific field, but I've seen people say things to the effect of "you just need a good work history".. For example if you obtain a degree, but have a work history prior to that.

Obviously, certain fields require specific experience (Medical, Engineering, etc), but others aren't so black and white about it.

To me it means having work history of what you're applying for. Doing assignments in college doesn't count.

This is going to sound really weird, and nobody I've ever tried to describe the following to had any idea what I was talking about. I've been wondering about this for years, so here we go.

When I get really hungry (really really, feel like youre going to throw up hungry), I can feel/hear a sound in my neck in my vertebrae. I say "feel/hear" because it really sounds like I'm hearing it, but that's crazy because I know peope around me can't hear it, which leads me to believe I'm "hearing" the vibration of something in my neck (which is so close to my eardrums that I think I'm hearing it).

The sound itself is best described as a very fast series of vert short clicks, although it's really more like if you go to groan or hum, but holding it at the very lowest and slowest you can.

Now that I think about it, I don't think I've experienced the sensation since I was a teenager, but I'm still curious. Crazy, I know, but any ideas?
