Question for Automobile Gaf,

What is the technical term for the long horizontal strip of faux wood that was popular on outside sides of minivans in the 80's? In other words, if I were to get that aesthetic customized on my van, which I'm not haha, what would a professional call that wood strip?

Hmm thanks. I swear we had an official programming thread or something. Started a new job and apparently we need more people with .net programming experience (something like 15+ positions were added recently). Was going to see if anyone in the DFW metro was interested and figured that'd be the best place.

I'm not 100% sure, but the sticky thread is gone and last time I saw it the rules had changed to just "less vulgar posts" or something like that

I have a KMart gift card, but there are no KMarts located near me. Is there anything I can do to spend the money on it in a different store? I'd use it online, but there's not enough money on it to buy anything I want.

Yup. Not sure what happened, probably partially due to all of the Digg users. Unsub from all the default subreddits and look for some smaller ones, like the /r/depthhub community.

So I'm interested in a netbook and I saw it on Amazon, the problem comes when choosing the shipping details. Since I'm not from the States, I only have the Standard or Expedited Shipping as options. Is this secure for me? What happens if it gets lost?

Rage comics. 4chan actually hates what reddit has done to them. They went from anecdotal things to how people's day went...they aren't funny. Fuck, that place has seriously become meteorically stupid.
 
Anyone know a way of generating playlists for Sony Walkmans? (NWZ-A if that matters)

The supplied software is total shit so I have to run Winamp. If I make a playlist in winamp it appears to work but then isnt on the player when synced. Ive tried using Itunes aswell with no luck.

Such a pain in the ass as the player its self is awesome and kicks ipods ass but god the software..
 
Windows 7 question. Is there a way to change the layout of the on-screen keyboard from qwerty to abdcef? This is for someone who is disabled and can't understand the alphabet if the letters are in the wrong order.

Hmm, under the circumstances, it would probably make sense to pick an alternative that does the job then. I'm sure there are tons of onscreen keyboards floating around that let you customize every tiny aspect, including keyboard layout.
 
It's been a full week since I had a really good interview last week. They said it would be a long hiring process (as in, a couple more interviews. This was the second), but I haven't heard anything back from them.

Should I email asking about the status of the position? Or wait?

Yeah I was hoping to avoid installing more software than he needs, but it's looking like I'll have to find an alternative solution. Oh well, thanks anyway!
 
I'll be listening to music of something on my computer, pause it, come back later, and the volume has been reduced. Nothing else has changed, this happens with Netflix and other services as well, and rebooting the PC always fixes the issue, but is a pain. Any idea what could cause this?

Could be a hiccup with your audio drivers. I get it on occasion in my DAW, but if I close and restart that it usually clears up. But if it's at the OS level it might be something deeper.

I just use some shitty Logitech USB speakers, if that means anything.
 
Question for BritGAF.

The Olympics thing in Trafalgar square. They showed a video montage of stuff from previous Olympics and played some classical music over it.

The question is: what the fuck is the music they played?!
I really recognised it but couldn't remember what it was from.

Also, I was going to post the video here and ask if anyone knew the music, but I can't find it anywhere.

Any help is appreciated.

If it were the speakers, unplugging/replugging would help. So if that doesn't help out, it may be your drivers.
 
On Youtube, when you're choosing the quality of the video to watch, I've noticed recently that there is a Original option now. Does that mean the resolution for the video in its original size? So it could go higher than 1080p for example?

W7 has a 'feature' where the volume is lowered when a USB device is plugged into the computer. Since you're using USB speakers it might be something to do with that. You can turn it off somewhere in Control Panel.

yeah there's some super high res videos on youtube. I've tried them out before but they don't run well on my computer and no difference in quality for me
 
Is anyone else getting some sort of Flash error that I presume comes from the banner ads that slows Firefox to a crawl?

i open all the posts i want to quote in separate tabs, then go to the tab, click the reply box, ctrl+a then ctrl+c, then go back to original post and paste it in, tyupe my reply, and move on to the next tab
