No, it's part of an animation and needs to be actually inset.

Can't you just use bump mapping for that, or is it really important to have it actually inset?

*EDIT*

If your text is a spline, select the geometry you want the text to be projected on first, and then the text itself, then select Object>Shapemerge. For some reason, it's more likely to work if you're in front view for this. Perspective sometimes has problems.

Can someone crop this so its just the logo and nothing else for me?

Game dev gaffers,

My friend and I area making a game with xna + visual studio and he's doing the programming and me the art. He has sent me a folder with all the game files but I can't seem to run the exe he compiled. I click and it does nothing. thoughts?

I installed visual studio 2010, anything else I might need to run it?

Assuming the .exe was actually compiled right and everything, you might need the XNA runtime as well. If you do have that.... then I dunno.

I'm having a brain fart right now. I can't figure out how to do b but I remember doing it a while ago

Q) Nitrogen forms more oxides than any other element. The percents by mass of N in three different nitrogen oxides are (I) 46.69%; (II) 36.85%; (III) 25.94%. (a) Determine the empirical formula of each compound. b) how many grams of oxygen per 1.00 g of nitrogen are in each compound?

edit: I got 0.58 grams but idk if it's correct

In Japan. recently, discussion came up on revising the law to make personal possession of child pornography illegal. The bill was argued against(and eventually changed to be "the purchase of/ instead of possession") because of the possibility of someone else sending you the pictures(aka you not even being aware of possession of them)

My question is this: In American law, what is there to prevent this? Does the law take into effect the intent of possessing? Is it literally possible to be arrested for having being sent spam in your mailbox you didn't even notice?

In the UK (I know, you said America, but I'm just gonna go ahead and tell you about the UK) you need something called mens rea in order to be guilty of committing a crime. It's to do with intention. So say someone gave you child porn without your knowledge, you couldn't be guilty of possessing it (if possession was an offence) because you didn't have the necessary intention. If you had something in your possession which you thought was child porn (but wasn't actually), you could be guilty of possession as you have the necessary intention. The latter situation is quite unusual but has happened in the case of supplying drugs (some guy thought he was selling coke (or smack, can't remember) but it just turned out to be salt. He was still found guilty of supplying Class A drugs.)

There are some crimes which are described as strict liability and don't require intention - speeding is one, so you can't claim you didn't know/mean to speed.

Also mens rea isn't enough on its own, there has to be actus reus - the criminal act (or omission).

Is it possible to get the http location of a file downloaded through a Javascript command?

(e.g. Excel file from this site: http://www.consar.gob.mx/SeriesTiempo/CuadroInicial.aspx?md=13)
In that case, the server asynchronously generates a response upon the JS request. It then gives you a data stream back that is of the Content-Type application/vnd.ms-excel; additionally, it is marked with Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=Cuentas por entidad.xls.
What all this indicates is that you will only get that datastream neatly packed into a file for download as a response to said JS event. It is not cached on the server in any way, it's really just "handmade" for you on the fly.

Thus, there is no http location of that file. It only exists temporarily on your end as a browser-cached response.

You could maybe set up an appropriate POST that reliably results in that response, when I look at the output of Live HTTP headers after clicking the link though, it doesn't look like it. The server appears to evaluate multiple runtime arguments and then gives the appropriate response; maybe you can guess them, but I don't think so.

You want three answers, since there are three different nitrogen oxides, NO is just one of them.

I see. I guess I'll just keep on downloading it manually. Thank you for the prompt response.

Looking for Lawyer GAF.

My employer recently decided to increase the taxes on my paycheck by a significant amount. I was never notified that this was going to happen. I asked my coworkers and none of them had received any email/call/letter about it either, nor had my boss. It wasn't until I went into HR to ask about it that I found out how much it had been increased by. The woman working HR didn't give me a reason as to why there had been a huge hike.

I'm just curious if this is something that I need to look into because it's taken a huge cut out of my checks :-/

Is there an easier way of doing this, without requiring accuracy and skills I simply don't have? I'd love to do something similar to my avatar...

Also, is there a thread or list of codes for post formats? The options are limiting, and I'm sure I've seen other members mention features like paragraph spacing and strikethroughs that I can't see.

Also, what is the etiquette on editing your posts here? Quite often I will chuck out a post and then edit it for spelling mistakes or ammending links afterwards. I just noticed on the proper site (I always use the secondapps mobile version), it requests that you leave a reason. Is it frowned upon?

Sounds like a question for Tax-GAF. Assuming you're in the US, this should never happen, unless they made an error before and are now correcting it. When you fill out your W-4, you choose a number of exemptions, which determines your withholding. As far as I know, your employer can't decide by themselves to change that amount.

But really, why the hell did you leave HR without an answer? Go pester them until they can tell you exactly what's going on and/or fixed the problem.

Eh, there are a few extra things, but not many that I know of.

[s]For strikethrough.[/s]
For red text.

That's it off the top of my head. Oh, and here's what they look like:

Nah, people edit posts all the time with no explanation. Don't worry about it.

would Christwire.org be considered a banned news site? there is an article that is amazing and highly likely fake but it has to be read by all.

As long as you make it clear that is a satirical website and don't report it as actual news, then I don't see why it would be banned. Is it offensive?

I appreciate the reply.

I know it's not a great excuse, but it was a time thing. I'll have to go back in and talk to her about it.

I think the hike has something to do with the fact that the Work-Study budget was cut right after Seattle raised it's minimum wage requirement. This means the school has to pay more "out-of-pocket" in order to pay student wages.

Is youtube not working for anyone else? I get no video or audio, just a a black rectangle.

That really makes no sense. Taxes are set at a standardized amount. Social Security and Medicare are percentages while Federal Withholding is based upon income brackets. Withholding is the only one where you might see variances due to different calculation methods, but we're talking about negligible amounts. The only things that can affect those amounts aside from your wages are pre-tax deductions which should be itemized on your pay stubs.

Why is this Samsung 22" 720p LED LCD HDTV so much more expensive than this Samsung 22" 1080p LED LCD HDTV? I've been looking back and forth between the two pages and for the life of me I can't recognize anything in the specs that makes the former look worth that much more than the latter. I'm still sitting on a gift card from a Target PS3 deal months ago that I'd intended to use to get a TV for the PS3. I am well aware that many people will say that 1080 on a 22" makes no sense, but I figure that I might as well go for it if it since the TV is literally only two feet from my face.

Does anyone know the trick to google someone's recent posts on GAF? I know how to site neogaf:, but I saw someone post a specific way to google a single poster.

What is the meaning of bomba?

I've seen it used both positively and negatively. If it means both, then what the hell is the point of using a word that means something AND its opposite??

At this point it's just a joke that gets put in every price drop thread.

How long after a movie/show/game has been released should you still use spoiler tags when discussing it?

I'm looking for a general rule of thumb.

I don't see a reason to ever not use proper spoiler tags. A lot of us regularly play older games and wait for new titles to hit the bargain bins. If people still haven't played Final Fantasy VII, they might not want to know if any character in it might happen to stumble upon misfortune.

It might not even have reached Europe within the first year.

I just ordered a Lenovo ThinkPad to use for school. This will be my first Windows 7 laptop. Is there any software out there that can enable OSX-esque multitouch trackpad features on these newer systems? The only thing I'm really going to miss about having my Macbook as my primary machine is being able to use a two finger swipe to scroll down webpages.

So, after getting through 150 episodes or so and stopping, I decided to try to get through the rest of Naruto on Hulu and then move on to Shippuden.

I think I'm up through 172 or so? Man...there's nothing important going on, at all. Anko just found some of her old memories and that's been about the only important thing for a long time now. That still left me pretty blah about everything though. Also the animation quality is getting worse and worse. Are these both trends I can expect to continue for awhile or is either one of those two things going to get better?

For recent posts, you could try the left side of the page, "More search tools," and select a time range.

Naruto is an awful show (and for more than the reasons you mentioned) and I could not recommend it to anyone. Not even those almost halfway through it, because even though it's only a 15 minute per week commitment for me, it's still not worth watching. It is maybe half filler episodes and filler arcs; what you were describing as nothing important going on. Essentially you can skip half the series, which is actually more encouraging than it is discouraging because it means you get to watch less Naruto. So to answer your question directly, yes, you can expect both of those trends to continue, possibly forever.

Anyone know this game?

Ughh, there is this really Artsy flash game. Where all you do is control a stickman with a gun, escorting another stickman into the middle of the desert. Some cheesy music plays and at the end you can shoot him or not. And it's about some slaughter that happened and it's a commentary on that.

But my google searches are turning up nothing! I'm trying to show my pretentious friend! Any help would be great.

I'm thinking of selling my Xbox 360 +collection on craigslist, and was wondering what I should ask for. I was thinking of putting it up for $350 but looking at what else is on craigslist it looks too high. Would $300 be too high for this?

Xbox360 Slim (bought several weeks ago refurbished) box + original accessories included
250gb HDD (bought new, separately)
extra 1st party controller
Portal 2
Mirror's Edge
Gears of War 1
Farcry 2
GTA IV
Viva Pinata Trouble in Paradise
Panzer Dragoon Orta
Doom 3
Sega GT 2002 / JSRF
Jade Empire
Outrun 2
Crimson Skies

The only thing more depressing than having to sell all this, which I acquired in the last couple months, is getting less than 300 bucks for it. :(

(no this isn't a stealth ad, I only want to deal locally)

Many people on CL will ask you if you will take x lower than your list price, so take that into consideration.
