Tigers nearing extinction

The British days led the population to become endangered, but if they go extinct its because of demand for animal parts from places today - primarily China.

India's government has tried to save Tigers, but you can't completely stop it when the demand continues to be high.

I hope there are more extreme measures taken to save them that come out of this conference. It's almost too late.

from 1972 the figure has been relatively same in India around 1600 .

Why can we clone useless shit like sheeps and dogs (i love dogs, but they aren not extincts), why cant we clone tigers?
I'm not geneticist, but I would think it would really dilute the genetic variance in a population if they cloned a male/female tiger. Maybe they have developed genetic techniques to introduce the needed variation for a population to thrive on its own, I'm not sure. It is hard to tell what would happen to a population that human's try to save. Some have been successful to a degree (Eagles, I believe), but then there are situations like Pandas that haven't done so well.

Tigers are also useless unless you're an asian dude with problems getting it up.

Seems like every time there is some exotic animal near extinction, some Asian wants to grind up that animal's testicles and sprinkle it in their soup.

While it's a good thing to keep cloning in mind as a last resort, it's really sad that people see it as a viable argument to not take drastic measures to stop wild tigers from going extinct because of humanities shitiness. It makes me wish cloning didn't exist. Perhaps people would be less careless and apathetic towards stuff like this.

Was merely being facetious, let's not get crazy here. Tigers are big and striped and awesome. Although...

So you're one of those people who thinks extinctions of animals don't affect you? Yeah, fuck you too.

...I'm just about 100% sure the extinction of tigers would have approximately zero affect on me. Not that that would justify their extinction.

Poaching done by Europeans adversely affect Tiger populations in south east asia. Of course that doesn't mean the current population is blame-free. Primarily due to human encroachment into jungles and Tiger territory has pushed the Tigers more inwards. Many Tigers who wandered into villages killing people were subsequently shot. But most of this stuff also happened during the colonial periods when British in India created the railroad system. Tiger attacks on railroad workers was common as day during the colonial period.

Conservation efforts that have come after would have been successful if not for modern issues.

If tigers go extinct, no one is going to blame the British.

Well then, no need to stop slaughtering them.

Calm the fuck down. I'm saying that it is good to have something as a last resort in case things don't work out. Its not easy to convince people that their thousand+ year old tradition needs to stop or that they should stop expanding.

rail road hunting and man eating tiger were still small minority. they hunted many of the animal left and right for fun. Tigers since the bangal and uttar pradesh are in good areas. Very few human live there. WE still get case of around 20 hunting a year i think. number might be different. People have popular habit of blaming the people right now but they quickly forget who got them in to this conditions. my two cents. I love this animals. Reality is you want be seeing them in 50 years most likely unless some miracles happen.

they are. And yes i know no one will blame British, they will blame india and china. There is very good amount of effort going on to prevent population. look up about it.

You don't know shit about biosphere then.

. . . Oh well. :/

I'm ok with letting something else evolve and take it's place.
Lol, what's that supposed to mean. It's not as if this is logical part of nature and evolution. The only thing that will replace the tiger is even less animal species and more humans. Whooptidoo.

Shitty news. :( Tigers are fuck awesome.

We need to put our heads together and do something about this shit. Make tigers the main character in every movie and video game from here-on-out.

Please. I live in the suburban Midwest. Considering the incredibly small about of Tigers there are now, I find it hard to fathom how removing them would affect me in any way. I understand the concept of the biosphere, but that's a stretch. If there's reason to think otherwise, I would honestly be interested in hearing.

You are aware that, despite how nice your perfect-little-world seems, nature does run like a balanced scale? The more species that are wiped out un-naturally (i.e. - by us) the more we're fucking with the earth's balance? If the earth doesn't like something, then it is the one that decides to take action. It's us being all fucked up that is the point.

It's fucked up but unless there's any actual substantial ecological impact from tiger extinction I just can't bring myself to care. Killing these animals in the name of bs 'traditional' medicine is pretty stupid though.

Hopefully we'll have the foresight to preserve these species in zoo's and such so they're not lost on future generations, but if 500 years from now humans are all living in efficient mega-cities and colonizing our solar system, the extinction of tigers or pandas just isn't really all that important.

yes, I get the feeling your too busy dancing with chicken legs in your hands to care about animals.

Us humans keep growing in numbers and taking over all the land that is nice. Big man-eating tigers thus get steam-rolled.

I hope they can mark off some land for them and keep them going. Extinctions happen all the time but there really are a limited number of large mammals so it really sucks to lose them.

Who gives a shit.

I mean, besides the tigers.

The sad part is, this sentiment is probably the most popular one, worldwide.

Majority: "Not directing impacting my life? Not my problem. Out of sight, out of mind."

idunno about that. lots of these kinds of animals have been killed for religious/voodoo medicine/elitism related purposes, rather than just human expansion.

it's worse than that. people care...
until the commercial goes off. then they simply forget. completely dismissal of their role or impact and resigned to shrug it off, despite their sadness.

I bet poaching Pseudo_Sam and Igo would do wonders for the human gene pool.

I never said that bro, calm down. The extinction of tigers wouldn't affect me personally. Someone else said, in response to my apparently misguided attempt at humor, that it would affect me personally. I was responding to him. It's not like I hate tigers or think that, because I wouldn't notice if they were gone, no one else would. Jesus.

My favorite animal as well :( sucks shit

It's inevitable that a lot of wild animals are going to hit the shitter in the next century or so though. The population is only rising, and bigger chunks of land will be tamed for more living room, resources and etc.

But why can't people just be happy that there are species around? That we as humans don't slaughter them into extinction for stupid reasons?

Your whole post essentially revolves around what tiger can be for humans. If there's no impact on us they can go extinct for all you care. But perhaps we should make sure there are still some kept in zoo's so that we and future generations can still look at them for our viewing pleasure.

I know that for many people I come of as preachy at this point, but I'm honestly baffled and really saddened by this widespread mentality. How can people be so selfish and/or apathetic. It's completely fucked up. :-/

I understood what you meant. And if we really want to be truthful, chances are good that those scant numbers of tigers make them somewhat ecologically irrelevant. 2 or 3 tigers per 200mi is not going to balance anything that they may have been balancing when they were 100,000+.

I'm sure they'll find a way to get the numbers up. It's pretty unlikely that a beloved animal species would be allowed to completely die off.

Which will be replaced with new animals once humans are gone. :/

They'll die out eventually at our hand or nature's so it's just not a huge concern to me. So will we for that matter.

Human advancement is much more interesting to me. We should go for gold and race to get off this rock, and if we wipe out a few species and probably ourselves along the way so be it. It's all part of the game and life on earth will go on regardless. Probably not long enough for another evolutionary cycle parallel to ours but oh well.

Yeah, fuck Earth. Jungles and forests and shit, we could use that for farm land, just napalm the fucking Amazon, man. Tigers are better dead and skinned and used as rugs, so fuck them too. Shit, I got mine, who gives a fuck about anything else.

I'm much more interested in tigers' advancement than I am yours. Can we put it to a vote?
