India's government has tried to save Tigers, but you can't completely stop it when the demand continues to be high.
I hope there are more extreme measures taken to save them that come out of this conference. It's almost too late.
I'm not geneticist, but I would think it would really dilute the genetic variance in a population if they cloned a male/female tiger. Maybe they have developed genetic techniques to introduce the needed variation for a population to thrive on its own, I'm not sure. It is hard to tell what would happen to a population that human's try to save. Some have been successful to a degree (Eagles, I believe), but then there are situations like Pandas that haven't done so well.shuri said:Why can we clone useless shit like sheeps and dogs (i love dogs, but they aren not extincts), why cant we clone tigers?
shuri said:Why can we clone useless shit like sheeps and dogs (i love dogs, but they aren not extincts), why cant we clone tigers?
While it's a good thing to keep cloning in mind as a last resort, it's really sad that people see it as a viable argument to not take drastic measures to stop wild tigers from going extinct because of humanities shitiness. It makes me wish cloning didn't exist. Perhaps people would be less careless and apathetic towards stuff like this.shuri said:Why can we clone useless shit like sheeps and dogs (i love dogs, but they aren not extincts), why cant we clone tigers?

RustyNails said:Poaching done by Europeans adversely affect Tiger populations in south east asia. Of course that doesn't mean the current population is blame-free. Primarily due to human encroachment into jungles and Tiger territory has pushed the Tigers more inwards. Many Tigers who wandered into villages killing people were subsequently shot. But most of this stuff also happened during the colonial periods when British in India created the railroad system. Tiger attacks on railroad workers was common as day during the colonial period.

If tigers go extinct, no one is going to blame the British.

Lol, what's that supposed to mean. It's not as if this is logical part of nature and evolution. The only thing that will replace the tiger is even less animal species and more humans. Whooptidoo.Black-Wind said:. . . Oh well. :/
I'm ok with letting something else evolve and take it's place.

Considering the incredibly small about of Tigers there are now, I find it hard to fathom how removing them would affect me in any way. I understand the concept of the biosphere, but that's a stretch. yes, I get the feeling your too busy dancing with chicken legs in your hands to care about animals.Igo said:It's fucked up but unless there's any actual substantial ecological impact from tiger extinction I just can't bring myself to care. Killing these animals in the name of bs 'traditional' medicine is pretty stupid though.
Hopefully we'll have the foresight to preserve these species in zoo's and such so they're not lost on future generations, but if 500 years from now humans are all living in efficient mega-cities and colonizing our solar system, the extinction of tigers or pandas just isn't really all that important.
Pseudo_Sam said:Who gives a shit.

idunno about that. lots of these kinds of animals have been killed for religious/voodoo medicine/elitism related purposes, rather than just human expansion.speculawyer said:Us humans keep growing in numbers and taking over all the land that is nice. Big man-eating tigers thus get steam-rolled.
it's worse than that. people care...ryutaro's mama said:The sad part is, this sentiment is probably the most popular one, worldwide.

But why can't people just be happy that there are species around? I understood what you meant. And if we really want to be truthful, chances are good that those scant numbers of tigers make them somewhat ecologically irrelevant. 2 or 3 tigers per 200mi is not going to balance anything that they may have been balancing when they were 100,000+.Pseudo_Sam said:I never said that bro, calm down. The extinction of tigers wouldn't affect me personally. Someone else said, in response to my apparently misguided attempt at humor, that it would affect me personally. I was responding to him. It's not like I hate tigers or think that, because I wouldn't notice if they were gone, no one else would. Jesus.
Which will be replaced with new animals once humans are gone. :/Souldriver said:Lol, what's that supposed to mean. It's not as if this is logical part of nature and evolution. The only thing that will replace the tiger is even less animal species and more humans. Whooptidoo.

Your whole post essentially revolves around what tiger can be for humans. If there's no impact on us they can go extinct for all you care. But perhaps we should make sure there are still some kept in zoo's so that we and future generations can still look at them for our viewing pleasure.
I know that for many people I come of as preachy at this point, but I'm honestly baffled and really saddened by this widespread mentality. How can people be so selfish and/or apathetic. It's completely fucked up. :-/
Uh...Igo said:They'll die out eventually at our hand or nature's so it's just not a huge concern to me. So will we for that matter.
Human advancement is much more interesting to me. We should go for gold and race to get off this rock, and if we wipe out a few species and probably ourselves along the way so be it. It's all part of the game and life on earth will go on regardless. Probably not long enough for another evolutionary cycle parallel to ours but oh well.
Yeah, fuck Earth. Jungles and forests and shit, we could use that for farm land, just napalm the fucking Amazon, man. Tigers are better dead and skinned and used as rugs, so fuck them too. Shit, I got mine, who gives a fuck about anything else.Igo said:They'll die out eventually at our hand or nature's so it's just not a huge concern to me. So will we for that matter.
