The promo shot looks awful, like a bad Walking Dead-knock off. Keeping low expectations on this one, despite the return of Cameron and Tim Miller at the helm.
The franchise was at its best with 1 and 2. They were years ahead of their time. The others got increasingly worse. I hate this PG-13 era we are in now where they take a Rated "R" concept and water it down in a major way, so it looks like a pitiful cash grab.
Hopefully, this movie can get rid of the bitter taste left with 3 and the other films, and I never saw the TV series.
Arnie is 71 now, so I think one last good send-off for him is needed. Besides, anybody can just decide to be a Terminator model, as it's possible to do.
At this point there are simply too many Terminator reboots, i.e. Genesys already ignored Terminator 3 & Salvation (with 3 different actors portraying John Connor in each movie). It's a broken franchise with zero continuity & judging by the box office results for the latest one, it's probably best to let it die. I mean what the fuck is canon in the series at this juncture? Nobody knows. No one asked for Terminator 6 & no amount of "produced by James Cameron" will save it. The first 2 were products of their time & had everything right, including Schwarzenegger at his height, Brad Fiedel's soundtrack, the visual effects which combined physical & digital to perfection & a simple story with memorable actions sequences, characters & quotes, i.e. a story anchored in the era in question (1980's & early 90's) in which AI & robotics still awed people with its potential (for good & bad). Nowadays? Not so much.
I reckon this one will be a flop (unsurprisingly) & once again I note the all-female marketing for 'woke' 2018 reasons. Boring. Old woman Sarah Connor with her gun looks a bit ridiculous as well, IMO.
Here's what would save Alien: make 'Alien Isolation' the movie featuring Amanda Ripley & from there, start a series of Amanda Ripley movies set in a different timeline to her mother's story. Get James Wan (director of the Conjuring) to direct & make these new Alien movies pure horror. No "origins of humanity" existential pseudo-science mumbo jumbo bullshit - just straight-up science-fiction survival horror with believable characters set in the iconic retrofuturism artstyle which Alien Isolation (the game) did so well.
I don't like it.. It reminds me of thos terrible Genisys promo shots. I was hoping for something darker and more gritty.
I want a true sequel to T1/T2, don't leave me hanging Tim Miller...
It wasn't until a few days ago I noticed it's an all female cast(at least in the picture), I hope it's not because of them being "woke", we saw what happened with ghost busters and ocean's eight going all female. >.>
