Meet the Press was one of the only decent Sunday news shows left too.:( I wonder who they're going to have take over it.

Its going to be really hard to find a adequate replacement for Tim. Half of his appeal was his no spin approach to politics. He presented the news and left it to the viewer to come to their own conclusions.

The channels are filled with spinmeisters and I have a feeling Meet the Press will never recover from his loss with the current crop of news personalities

I honestly don't know anyone else who could possibly fill the void.

Tom Brokaw maybe but they probably want someone younger. Brian WIllaims, but he already does the nightly news. Everyone else seems way to biased. Chuck Todd seems to be just an analyst, never seen him actually report news or interview so no clue on if he might be able to pull it off. Mathews and Olberman are way too biased for the job I think.

RIP Tim, youre one of the news industry's best.

We'll miss seeing you here in Canton every year for Hall of Fame week. (The dude was an AVID sports fan)

It's nice to see so many people in agreement. I don't follow too much news. It's so damn bleak sometimes. But I really REALLY did like Russert. Smart, well spoken, genuinely nice and always appeared happy to be doing what he was doing. Like was said, he really was giddy for the fall election.

It truly sucks that he's gone.

Love how he always said "Go Bills" at the end of the program during football season.

RIP TIM RUSSERT. Meet the Press will never be the same. It's going to be strange watching last Sunday's telecast. I still had not watched the podcast. I wonder what will happen this Sunday? Likely a tribute show like they have done in the past when regular guests pass.

Barbara Walters said of Tim if we could hear his thoughts now: "Darn! Why couldn't have this had happened after the election!" :D

Bless you, Tim - you were one of the greatest journalist, the most ruthless and yet the most balanced in MSM.

So miserable; he's been my favorite journo for almost a decade :(

I blame Clinton for staying in the race and increasing his stress level from all those late nights of coverage. /Kid

Seriously, though, I've heard of trans-atlantic flights causing trauma in people over the hill. Maybe it was related to the flight.

Watched the MSNBC video when Brokaw first broke the story. He sounded (and only looks lightly better) than Chuck Todd did. really sad.

damnit who's gonna fill those shoes on sunday morning's meet the press?

WHO?

I wish I could say Chuck Todd, he knows his shit and can do the math, but I don't know if he can interview.

Its probably going to be Matthews or Gregory.

Well at the very least it seems like he wasn't in pain for very long.

I've come to the point of realization that in the next 10-20 years of my life lots of icons are going to be gone, it's going to suck but it's something I've come to accept. George Harrison's death a few years ago really hit me hard.

Keith Olberman looks like he is about to cry right now. :(

sounds really mean but he seems like he's just acting compared to the people like Chuck Todd and Brokaw who seemed generally shaken by the whole thing.

When he first appeared tonight, his cheeks were extremely puffed up, obviously from tears. And his choking up reading the statement from the hospital wasn't at all artificial.

How about the cynics take a break from this thread, huh?

Mccains statement on Russert since we have had obamas

U.S. Senator John McCain today issued the following statement on the sudden and tragic passing of Tim Russert:

"I am very saddened by Tim Russert's sudden death. Cindy and I extend our thoughts and prayers to the Russert family as they cope with this shocking loss and remember the life and legacy of a loving father, husband and the preeminent political journalist of his generation. He was truly a great American who loved his family, his friends, his Buffalo Bills, and everything about politics and America. He was just a terrific guy. I was proud to call him a friend, and in the coming days, we will pay tribute to a life whose contributions to us all will long endure."

He's been covering it this whole time, so the physical part of it has faded, but he was definitely crying before.

Yeah I just got home about 30 min ago and just saw him talking to Chuck Todd and Chuck Todd just looked absolutely devastated. Didn't see when Keith started.

Russert was an important figure in political media, but let's not pretend now that he was a walking saint. jeez.

I rarely see Tim Russert hate at all, even on GAF

I've never heard of anyone hating Russert anywhere, much less GAF. I think there were many people like myself who loved Sundays because of Tim and Meet the Press.

I never watched Meet The Press but my parents sometimes did, it's really surprising that he died at such a young age, and Sunday morning will definatly feel different.

R.I.P. Tim :(

Russert WAS a saint. He was a great family man. And for the record I saw no hate of russert at gaf.

It's a tragedy when someone dies so suddenly. I feel very, very bad about this news. It's difficult to put into words. Condolences to his family.

You're mistaking disagreement with Russert as hate.

A lot of people in GAF disagreed with Russert at times and will clearly voice their opinions - no hate though.

I'm actually fighting back tears. Tim Russert is one of the few people in the media that I admire. It sounds corny, but one of my heros just died.

Wasn't that one priest that killed the last scholar in Alexandria for being a pagan given sainthood? Is being a saint a big deal?
