JAMES MCTEIGUE?! :D :D :D

Shit yes!

http://chud.com/articles/articles/19363/1/EXCLUSIVE-HAS-CONAN-FOUND-HIS-NEW-DIRECTOR/Page1.html
Yesterday we learned that Brett Ratner looked to be out of the director's chair on the new Conan movie, which possibly shoots this summer. The producers have been wasting no time in trying to get a new helmer for the franchise reboot, which after months of development still needs some script work and a leading actor. And according to my very trustworthy, very much correct in the past source, they've found their director:

James McTeigue.

The director of the first good Alan Moore adaptation (V For Vendetta) and the upcoming Ninja Assassin, McTeigue was long the Wachowski's first AD. There's no question that McTeigue has the action chops needed to bring the Hyborian barbarian's adventures to brutal, bloody life.

But will he have the money needed to do it right? My source fears that the loss of Ratner means a loss of budget. Ninja Assassin seems to be budgeted at around 50 million, and V For Vendetta was 54 million. Both look terrific - McTeigue is getting every penny on screen - but Conan will be much costlier, effects-wise. Will the current rumored 120 million dollar budget be slashed with this new director?

It's important to note that McTeigue hasn't signed any papers yet, so this deal is still in the making, but it looks like he's the guy Nu-Image/Millenium wants for the job.

And remember, the Wachowskis were once set to direct a Conan movie. They and McTeigue retain a tight relationship; might this Conan have their fingerprints all over it as much as McTeigues? That, to me, sounds like it could be a damn good thing.

It all depends on the lead. No established actors are "big" enough and where are they going to find another ESL steroid head who can follow in Arnie's footsteps

While I wouldn't consider him a good director by any stretch of the imagination, Rattner gets way too much undeserved hate.

I liked Kevin Sorbo.

i really disliked v for vendetta. not as much as i dislike brett rattner, but still.

Agree. This is a lateral move at best. I'll just stick to reading my Conan books and bitch about Milius getting screwed.

The thing about Brett Ratner is some of his movies were actually pretty good (Rush Hour 1-2, Red Dragon) but his other movies are downright terrible (Xmen 3, Rush Hour 3)

Really? Does Conan honestly need a $120 million budget? It doesn't need a big named star as Conan. Arnold wasn't big when he first starred in Conan the Barbarian. I think a movie around $50 million could easily do Conan justice as long as they don't start adding in all kinds of mythical creatures and such. There are plenty of Howard's books that would be perfect to adapt without costly special effects.

V for Vendetta was a great movie wtf.

God damn, GAF.
You know what these plebs are like. If they had the greatest chef in the world cook them breakfast, lunch and dinner every day they'd still find some way to shit on it.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand Conan's director is... Marcus Nispel. :\

http://www.newsarama.com/film/060912-ConanFIlm.html

According to Variety, Marcus (Friday the 13th) Nispel has been tapped by Nu Image/Millennium Films to direct a new Conan film, the first major move for the franchise in nine years of development. With Nispel named, the film is moving ahead quickly with production slated to start later this year in Bulgari and South Africa.

Previous to Nispel’s signing on, the film was rumored to be in the sights of Larry and Andy Wachowski, Robert Rodriguez, and most recently, Brett Ratner. Ratner came the closest to getting the job prior to Nispel, but according to the trade, could not commit in a timely fashion.
So the guy responsible for Pathfinder, Texas Chainsaw, and Friday the 13th now has Conan in his hands...

Friday the 13th - 34 out of 100
Pathfinder - 29 out of 100
Texas Chainsaw Massacre - 38 out of 100

*sighs* :(
