Oh, really? I totally forgot they didn't.

Guess they're trying to make it less confusing and pad out episodes since the OVA epsiodes wouldn't split cleanly into threes otherwise.

Pretty much. The editting in the tv version of unicorn is shit. If they didn't use those recaps for padding, it'd probaby be worse.

Unicorn works fantastically in its original format, but that said in chunks its still great too.

I think there are two reasons this thread isn't liking it.

A) Theyre not familiar with uc. UC is fantastic, but but this is like coming in on return of the jedi. Or maybe a movie that takes place three years after return of the jedi. The show expects you to understand at the very minimum what a newtype is, the relation between Federation and zeon, and what happened at the end of chars counterattack. I don't think it's fair to hold that against the show. But I also don't think it's unfair to be confused either.

B) the pacing. Episodes 1 - 4.5 are meant to be one episode. All of that stuff was meant to be digested over an hour. Not 3 weeks. That does make things a little bit unclearer I guess.

I can't wait for you guys to be confused over stuff like:

the relationship between zeon remnants on earth and neo zeon, Banagher's resonance with marida during palau, what the fuck a zabi is and what is mineva zabis role. What is a cyber newtype. What is londo bell. What is a rewloola. What is gryps. What is a lalah.

lol holy shit Seda, the image for Shippuden

That's the Naruto filler image. Last year it had a ~24 episode filler arc. Pretty brutal.

Minor thing. If both seasons of Ghost in the Shell air consecutively, in order front-to-back, without being replaced or cut, I think it'll be the first time on 'Toonami' despite being on the schedule before.

When Toonami relaunched in 2012, it started with the last 12 episodes of 2nd GIG (simply continuing from Adult Swim Action) followed by the first 17 episodes of Season 1. It was replaced by Inuyasha then mid-season.

GitS came back in late 2013 and aired the first full season. Replaced by Beware the Batman (remember that?). Beware the Batman ended prematurely with a marathon due to tax/write off reasons, and it was replaced by 2nd GIG. This aired 17 episodes into 2015 before getting cut when the second half of the block was removed.

One Piece has filler in a few weeks, but they're considered good filler and it's only 4 episodes, so it's fine.

Yeah, as far as I understand the awesome Captain Puzzle filler was the last real 'filler arc' for One Piece, and from here on out filler is relegated to one-offs, short side stories (Boss Luffy), movie tie-ins, etc.

For context, the last time GITS appeared on here, Attack on Titan made its grand debut, Bleach began the Fullbringer Arc, Dandy hung out with an orphan, Naruto and friends punched their way into Akatsuki's lair only to find Gaara already dead, Robin and CP9 departed from Water 7 aboard the Sea Train Puffing Tom, Blue Exorcist had its beach episode, Rock and Revy had something of a date in Roanapur, Haku sacrificed himself for Zabuza (because both Naruto and Shippuden were on, remember that?), Winry helped deliver a baby, Jack learned to jump good, Padme tried to investigate a murder, and Lance, Ilana, and Octus adopted Tashy 497.

Looking at SAB's drawings I noticed I really could have brought back themes for tonight

Tonight's theme was definitely Lewdnami. So much ~Lewd tonight.

Apparently, after Frieza happened and before the Androids arrived, the Pilaf Gang got the Dragonballs and wished for youth.

So they're about the same age as Goten and Trunks now.

Weird, did the anime never address this? Hell, it was never addressed in the Battle of Gods movie (in fact, they weren't stuck on an island. They......kind of just appeared), which also confused me since I knew who they were.

Yeah apparently they mention it more explicitly in Super several arcs from now, but that's the explanation they gave back when Battle of Gods came out.

also since the Pilaf Gang appeared as old people in GT, this indirectly retcons GT away

Yeah they just sort of popped in, its supposed to imply that they found where the Dragonballs were being held and went to capsule corp to retreve them but at least the movie helped with flashbacks to DB when Goten met Pilaf and the gang.

Super did it worse then BoGs, because without knowing anything about DB these characters are just merely side-gag characters without the nostalgia attachment to them.

hmm.
I feel like Joseph should have been American. His personality matches it better.
Late response, but he kind of is. He's introduced as "New York's Jojo", and consistently listed as "British-American" by things like databooks and whatnot.

...despite having moved to New York only a few weeks before the beginning of Battle Tendency.

Heavens arena is still the best hxh arc. Could have been one of the best boys action manga arcs if the ending had actually been well written. Whats the point of all that training and attaining a new power up if it wouldn't be useful to annihilate the big bad? Baffling decision though probably expected since this is the same bad writer who illogically enabled Killua to fail the hunter exam when he was actually the strongest there.

Catching up as usual on One Piece Sunday morning, can someone find me a YouTube of the theme playing, that got cut off going to break?

That was a fine piece of music.

You and me both know Togashi explains why Killua doesn't like fighting Illumi in a later arc so why are....fuck it I'm not debating this shit. And God beating Hisoka would be bullshit power creep of the highest level and that's not what HxH is about.

Kinda close but not really. The remaining filler the series has are all promotional arcs for the upcoming Oda overseen One Piece movies. Strong World, Film Z, and Film Gold. The Strong World one is relatively soon...and is the worst bit of filler the series has.

So I watched Gangsta yesterday. I was really digging it for the most part as well, but then it went and ended on a cliffhanger. And ManGlobe went out of business so there won't be a second season.

I actually had a similar problem with the Killer B fight as I did with the Itachi fight in that it feels like characters are made weaker than they normally seem rather than powerful characters being made to seem truly more powerful.

It seems like Kishimoto's way to communicate power is just to nerf characters who seem like they should be able to put up more of a fight.

Yeah, Sasuke definitely seemed weaker than he should be, but I thought it made sense, because after Itachi, he thought Killer Bee would be a pushover and thus became sloppy. He fought Naruto with his tailed beast cloak, thought he had it figured out, and didn't realize the tailed beast could dispell genjutsus.

The worst part of the Sharingan bullshit is that the original power of the Sharingan, and literally the thing it's named after (in Japanese), is the ability to copy other powers.

I can think of three different final villains off the top of my head with that power! What kind of idiot is Kishimoto to not figure that out?!

Well, we got that in the beginning of Naruto with Kakashi. This is what happens when you start winging it along the way.

Yeah, whatever issues David Pro might have budget/production-wise, I'm not sure anybody else would bother with things like the color shifts.

When I think of a jojo anime by way of madhouse, what actually comes to mind is (not really spoilers but is about future parts aesthetically), is David Pro's part 3 adaptation, which is to say a perfectly functional, but rigid presentation of the source material, with solid action animation but without much directorial flourish.

I certainly wouldn't expect Madhouse to put out something like the Part 4 anime in terms of presentation.

JoJo is such a weird thing and David Pro is perfect for it. Sure, the animation could be better, but it's getting better each season. Part 4 is pretty dang good in that department outside of a few bumps here and there.

What Madhouse did with HxH is pretty damn impressive though. 3 years straight of looking consistently good. I wish One Piece and Naruto got the same treatment.

Hm, it was only today that I found out that a Boom Boom Satellites song (Broken Mirror) is part of Unicorn's soundtrack, so now I'm wondering when it'll wind up playing.

Fun Facts about Gundam Unicorn:

The blackboard in the classroom is full of all sorts of fun easter eggs.

The quad wing that Marida Cruz pilots, the Kshatriya, is an upgrade of the Queen Mansa that Ple 2 pilots in ZZ Gundam.

Full Frontal's flagship, the Rewloola, was Char's flagship in Char's Counterattack

The Nahel Argama, the ship that rescued Banagher, Micott, Takuya, and Audrey, was originally featured in ZZ Gundam.

The doctor who was exam in Banagher is Dr. Hassan. He was a recurring character in Z Gundam and ZZ Gundam

It's from the OVA. It was a credits song. Each of the OVA episodes had its own unique ED.

Hamon is kinda bullshit and has like no rules. It's no surprise JoJo completely got rid of it.

Yep. Good thing it got replaced by Stands which are bullshit free and adhere to strict rules.

LOL. I know you don't mean that literally though. I'd argue, and you probably agree, that Hamon left because it wasn't creative enough, limited who could be a combatant and would lead to serious power escalation.
