Appearently from the comments on Reddit, the Haruhi fanbase went through the same thing. they were teased with a new page and everyone thought it was a new anime that was coming and guess they had some sort of QR code scavenger hunt which led to a trailer for a pachinko machine.

The ultimate burn was that the trailer featured new animation from the team.
