Did transit city go to the humber loop?

I believe the idea for the Waterfront LRT, was to meet up with the 501 at the Humber Loop. So, the 501 from there would be the slow train, and the Waterfront LRT would be more of an express streetcar along a less crowded route, with right of way the entire way. Would have been really nice.

edit: Actually, looks like it comes back on to King St before Roncesvalles, but none the less, would probably be pretty quick compared to the 501.

A new pinball cafe has opened around Queen and Roncesvalles. It's called "The Pinball Cafe".

http://www.blogto.com/cafes/pinball-cafe-toronto

I haven't been there yet but I love love love pinball so I'll be down to check it out soon. The machines are only 25 cents to play.

Unfortunately, they only serve coffee and snacks and no alcohol. I think they will live to regret that decision.

If anyone heads down there before me, please give a report on how it is.

What's the message though? The message is "War on Cars" and "Council is wasteful and spends too much" and "Need to build subways, above ground transit is BAD". None of these is support of LRT and two of them are directly opposed. Stintz tried to find a compromise that Ford would go for with Busways but even that is not good enough for Ford.

You'd be fine with a busway down Islington as opposed to a LRT right?

There is a buswar down Islington. It's a piece of shit, with old busses that never show up. Here is what would need to be done.

Thats it, and it would serve the most densly populated area of Etobicoke.

Then if you wanted to expand you do this:

MSv6I.png

Which the people who own woodbine already said they would pay for if the city builds the line in islington.

Meaning you have all of Etobicoke, include the racetrack/casino and airport, connected right downtown. That is huge.

I'm hungry for churros. What's a good place for real ones? Not the sketchy outdoor stands or ttc ones... saw a place on college near spadina but I dunno if i'd get from there.

So transit City is still happening?

When will I be able to commute from the heart of Mississauga to Downtown Toronto seamlessly?

There's hope for your grandchildren, but little for you.

The coup that Stintz is raising is partly because she's now versed in the file and knows damn well that burying every line is infeasible, and partly because (I'd bet) she's got mayoral aspirations and knows that Ford can't last, with this many people hating him this much.

Will she succeed in making Transit City *THE* transit plan for Toronto? Maybe. Is Transit City *THE* best solution for transit in Toronto? For transit, for now, maybe. But not for 50 years from now, and not for businesses in the city.

But then, we've had that part of the debate before.

Had Ethiopian food for the first time. It was really fantastic! I love the different kinds of cuisine in this city.

We have a choice:

1) Do something now.
2) Do nothing now.

Aside from the Sheppard subway, which is a failure, we've been doing option #2 for the last 30 years.

It's the city's fault for putting off with subways for too long. Now they're not economically viable. Maybe in the future, things will change, but right now, LRTs are a fraction of the cost and can reach more people. As long as the major routes like Eglinton have right of way like St Clair and Spadina, they will work wonders.

If you keep delaying transit because you hope for something 'better' you're going to end up like a bunch of US cities with sad, never used transit systems.

Ethiopian food is very underrated. Which restaurant did you go to?

Ethiopian House by Wellesley station. It was definitely a great meal and I would definitely recommend that place. I forgot to take pictures of it unfortunately, was too hungry I guess.

What's it called? I don't do Ethiopian nearly as much as I should.

EDIT: Ethiopian House. Missed that.

Any other good ones?

I've eaten there before - I ranked it as "ok".

Not bitter, just unsweetened
I live at lakeshore/islington - the LRT was to go to long branch loop, the loop at Humber was going to be destroyed in favor of a new one

And the residents of mimico, lakeshore and long branch absolutely mauled the TTC plan because of "wah no U-turns or parking" even though there is parking on every side street and green P lots scattered about that go unused

I'm still bitter that this community decided to kill progress for the sake of u turns and parking....

And to get downtown from here the current streetcar or 110 bus up to islington station is an absolute annoyance and waste of time... In order to get on the GO train (as this was the oppositions absolutely stupid recommendation for transit) you would have to go backwards and wait up to an hour just to get to union or go to royal york, take a bus up until that bridge and... Wait. Ugh

The city screws us- when the goodwill plant shut down, they erected huge co-ops and the land in the middle was promised to be developed into commercial stores... But then gets developed into residential- fuck. Like we are puppets to sherway or downtown... and the residents screw us by being the most conservative shits in the city

Bah this area had so much promise

I used to work near Islington and Judson. That whole area is stuck decades in the past. It's really unfortunate.

People love to talk shit about Scarborough, but Etobicoke is a soulless wasteland as far as I'm concerned. There feels like there's less life in it than Mississauga.

Suburbs are for people who aren't good enough for to live in the city proper.

I'd never live in the city, can't stand the constant bustle and commotion. I'd go mad if I had to stay down for a week - I get enough of the city at work.

Convenience really. I'm only an extra 5-10 minutes north of you and most times I'd rather drive when possible. Don't want to deal with the 60 bus that can just infuriate me sometimes and then dealing with the drunk riffraff on the subway/bus ride heading back home.

Oh and then walking from Steeles back home at like 2:30am.

When I'm drinking I take the bus home, when I'm not I'll park at Finch or YD

If only they had extended the subway to bathurst and steeles like the plan was long ago

Ford may think people voted for him to get them subways, but people also voted for council

And if councilors feel they were elected to be responsible and not waste transit money then taxpayers didn't vote for subways at all costs

To paraphrase South Park, Wednesday's going to be a sticky situation (*kids laughing as they eat ice cream). I wonder how many people will follow Ford's request and contact their councillors with their support of subways (ignoring any possibility of actually financing them without taxing the city to death and beyond).

A 'busway' as I'm using the term requires buses to be separated from the rest of the traffic on the road by exclusive lanes reserved just for them. I don't think I've seen anything like that on Islington.

In any case what you are proposing is very similar to Transit City plus two extra lines. I'm down with that. You'll notice on your map though that red lines are rail and blue lines are dedicated bus lanes. I'd just figure your green and purple lines would be built as blue instead of red. That's all.

Oakville sucks so hard, SO HARD.

Makes me cringe just thinking about the place.

Aint no hustle and bustle if you in da right neighborhood...

There's a bakery on Augusta south of College that sells them. They are great. I've had their churros many times. They even have chocolate filled ones.

I think I had them before, kinda small. Then again I'm hoping for "USA sized" ones.

Whaaaa? I live right across Wonderland. Takes me 25 minutes to get downtown.

That's not bad!

In terms of weather it makes a huge difference, which was my point.

25 minutes, you must be speeding like a mad man, leaving at 4:00am, or 'downtown' means not the core. What route do you take? DVP, 427, or Allen Expressway?

Or that would rather not deal with the constant headache that is driving downtown ;)

Yeah, this. So much more eloquent than I. As someone who works downtown on occasion (late nights) I would prefer to stay away from it as much as I can. My cousin lives in a condo near Kensington and as much as I love them.... downtown drives me nuts.

In the current bureaucracy it takes months and sometimes years to get a liquor license. It's terrible.

Oakville's where I was born and grew up. It's a nice little town. Nice houses, tree-lined streets, it's safe, has minimal sprawl, a classy downtown. Great for families.

However.

If you're between the ages of 12 and 35, it is one of the most boring places imaginable in the GTA. There's been an organized war on youth there for the last 50 years. (I wish I were exaggerating.) Plus, all the snobby fucking rich people that moved in over the last couple of decades. I lived there for waaaaay too long.

Trust me, I know, I went to Sheridan. A lot of the old people there just don't like young people.

At least you don't live in my part of Thornhill, there was a concerted effort to not build places that teens would hang out =/ Now things are a bit better but still, good thing Toronto is not far

OLG is looking to bring gambling to smart phones, gambling apps seem so deadly

Oakville actually banned arcades for that reason sometime in the '90s.

They turned a youth centre in a seniors centre in the '60s when my mom lived there.

When you try to get young people out of sight they just go into basements with their friends and drink and do drugs.

People kept fighting pool halls here, and they took gazebos out of parks because people who had backyards that backed onto the parks were worried about the people hanging out there at night

Now there are a couple bars in the neighbourhood but that means little now, back when I was 19 it would have been awesome
