Is anyone going to cosplay/wear anything interesting to fan expo? I think I'll go there for a bit on thursday night and friday night after work. And probably saturday afternoon.

Dumbest line ever. Who the flipping crap cares if its a communist/socialist program as long as it works? Well, apparently a lot of people in the US, but I'd like to give people the benefit of the doubt and say that they are just using that as pretense for covering up that they favor selfish d-bag policies that will hurt the overall economy but help them personally.

Hey, I'm a Thornhill guy also, right near the Promenade mall also!

Going to Fan Expo for sure, should be good this year. Saving up to buy a ton of figures.

Looking at comments on sites like Yahoo/CBC/etc it is actually creepy what's happening in our country. I have nothing against people who are to the right of me in politics, I just have everything against people who are foolish.

Any Thornhill GAF members?

I currently live around Don Mills Station but I am researching a pre-construction condo at Yonge/Arnold. I also work around Leslie/Highway 7.

How's the neighbourhood? Is anything noteworthy? Thanks in advance.
Sup. Dufferin/Steeles here. :p

That area's ok for now I guess. Should get interesting if the Yonge Subway extension gets approved.

Amir0x was demodded, so I have returned. Hooray, justice. I'll have a few new places to add to the OP, especially with all the new decent restaurants popping up on Yonge St.

Has anyone tried the Burger's Priest yet? It receives generally amazing reviews, but I found the burgers pretty small, the buns medicore, and the cheese tasted processed. Fries were soggy as well. And all for the same (expensive) price as BQM. :/

Wait, what happened with Amirox? Was it hilarious?

Had no idea you left because of Ami.

Thread update is exciting. Good to have you back.

Where do you buy your games?

I avoid the Gamestop at the Promenade at all costs, they have idiots working there

The Gamestop across the street from the Promenade has good staff

The Gamestop at Dufferin and Steeles is where I seem to get most games as they are in Toronto and able to do trade-ins

depends where in thornhill you're at, and although not exactly thornhill, the EB at centrepoint has a great staff. Real cool dudes all-round. It's the one I go to on the regular. There is also one across the street from the mall which isn't bad at all. I prefer those 2 locations over the promenade one BY far, also over the one on Dufferin.

Your links are backwards, I think.

Glad you are back though!

Oops, fixed!

Good to be back too. There's not enough decent forums online that discuss specifically Toronto, so I need a place to vent when the city screws up something I don't like. :)

I have taken a fancy to Yelp though, and I write reviews for basically any place I've ever set foot in. Very addicting.

Dufferin/Clark right here.

I've lived here my whole life, really enjoy the area.

Don't know why I clicked this thread and I did a double take when I glanced over and saw the amir0x demodded posts but I've never liked reading his aggressive posts and mightier than thou attitude - plus when he posts about how he attacked his mother+ going to jail (I think that was it); and the wolf penis thread - I was like "why is this unstable person a mod"?

Thanks Toronto Gaf!

Thanks to this thread, I've discovered a couple of places I wouldn't ever set foot in. New updates to the OP sounds exciting.

I thought Burger Priest wasn't very good at all. I tried it out because NOW said they were the best in the City. Great Burger Kitchen by Gerrard and Jones is much better. My favourite though is still South St. Burger Co.

I had the same impressions. I'll try out the other burger places you mention when I have the chance though! I find BQM on Queen St E to be my favorite burger place. The one on Queen W just doesn't do it for me. Craft Burger on King W is okay, but it's pretty pricey for what you receive.

Yellow Griffin in Bloor West Village 'can' be good too, but it's always hit, or miss with me when I visit. Sometimes the burgers and fries are amazing in both portion size, and freshness. And sometimes they're just terrible.

By the way, NextBus has been updated to include a couple new features recently.

One is buses are now included on their schedule, so you can track them for the next arrival. And maybe most importantly, you can track vehicles without a hitch now on Google Maps. This is such a benefit for me to be able to tell when the next bus is coming for me, rather than having to leave it to luck. It actually makes the pain of taking the TTC every day a lot more bearable.

NextBus, 501 Route (select Routes on the left side to change / add routes)http://www.nextbus.com/googleMap/googleMap.jsp?a=ttc&r=501&d=501_0_501Sun&s=10266

I used to go to the one up at Yonge/Red Maple because of a cool guy who worked there (though not technically Thornhill as it is past hwy 7).

I've lived in Thornhill my whole life and live up the street from the Promenade but never go to the EB inside the mall...maybe since they moved locations within the mall from upstairs to downstairs, but holy crap, the salespeople there are so full of themselves, I thought I walked into Mexx or something. I walked in wanting to buy some accessories and see if they had the MW3 preorder poster but one of the sales clerks basically ignored his coworker who was new and didn't know how to restart a transaction in progress for 30 minutes. I couldn't leave without getting my money back and when I'm about to leave, the guy who was busy talking to his friends the whole time, turns to me and says "Come back and tell me how the games/accessories are."

Like hell I would come back. The store across the street in the walmart plaza is ok, they have some really nice staff there.

Also my vote for best burger in Toronto goes out to Golden Star, good fresh burger and fries that are crispy and soft on the inside kind of like Swiss Chalet fries.

I wonder why that thing doesn't cover my usual routes. Then again my routes are constantly being reduced in service each year. The amount of red "reduced service" signs and renewal of schedule sheets is off the charts at the stations lol.

I have both Next TTC and Rocket Radar on my iPhone. They both are similar but have their strong and weak points.

Rocket Radar - has a nifty roulette interface, usually accurate location, but impossible to refresh which can be problematic (I have force-quit it to get some cooperation a few times) and has no way of saving favourite stops and such. No maps either. But it usually works pretty well. Also has badge #s for minutes left, a nice touch, and chimes when the ride arrives. Strangely still shows a streetcar when taking a bus.

Next TTC - very classy deco style layout, and includes time to the second (as opposed to rough minutes on RR); fairly accurate although seems to screw up location a bit more – maybe this is just an accident as I don't see why it would be any different. Has a favourites system and it works pretty well. More information is displayed altogether, like more descriptive stop names and the next few rides (which you swipe through in RR). Choice of light/dark interface, forcing last stop on launch vs always locate on launch, and vibration alerts with custom times. Overall I like this one a lot.

Either one would/will be quite valuable soon. Winter is coming.

The reason I enjoy the map on NextBus so much is that the times on NextBus are not as accurate as you might hope. But I can time when I need to leave the apartment to catch the bus by looking at the map, and it's nearly flawless. I'll have to give Rocket Radar a look too though, for accuracy of times.

+1, with rings (not fries). Complete with the freestylin' ways of the (grand)father who owned the joint originally:

Golden Star, best by far
Come from near, come by car
Come hungry from wherever you are
Taste the homemade love of Golden Star!

So, what would you guys suggest for cheap eats for four days? I'm a breakfast / lunch / dinner guy, but I can usually postpone lunch if I get a good breakfast.

Say, $15 a day low end. $25 higher end.

Still haven't picked up Fan Expo tickets. I don't know, last year's guest list was more to my liking. No Doug Mahnke this year and most important - no Ernest Borgnine. :(

You can get a medium pepperoni pizza from Pizza Pizza for $5. That's two meals right there.

Yoinks! Not pizza!

Trust me I love pizza, but uh - yeah, I love pizza and that's why I'm carrying around this extra weight I don't need. :p

Squareboy at donlands and danforth. Burger + fries + drink = 4.86 including tax.

Really good burger and a generous amount of fries.

Can anyone recommend a good dance studio in the downtown area? A place which has a young crowd 20-30 year olds. Good for learning a new dance and socializing.

Now I want Goldenstar haha :)

OH and a story about the Gamestop at Promenade

When Street Fighter 4 came out I read on RFD that Gamestop had sent out a memo to their stores to drop the price of the game 10 bucks at launch.......many first hand accounts of people getting that price no problem........I think there was a buy at gamestop bonus too

So I went there and the guy was like no, its this price, there is no memo, hahahaha you suck kind of attitude...........so I went to HMV and they had it for the lower price.......like 3 stores down........the guy acted like such a douche.......and when 20+ people on RFD are saying that GS employees told them the price was lowered I'm pretty sure that means the price was lowered

This sounds like everyone I know from my youth. We all grew up in Scarborough and every single person I know moved downtown including me. It makes sense that some people in Oakville would want to do the same.
