The club era was great if you like walking to work on Monday mornings down Queen and dodging errant piles of puke and refuse left behind by people who fuck off to their own neighbourhoods after running wild in yours.

The awesome music, amazing dancing, sweet eye candy, and killer atmosphere made that neighbourhood the perfect place to waste your youth. I'll never forget it and the confidence gained in those years is priceless.

I made my living for 15 years playing live electronic music in clubs. I had a blast playing smaller clubs but the bigger clubs (such as the ones in the Toronto club district) always depressed me when I was booked to play them. The people didn't give a shit about music in those places. Just a bunch of douchebags wearing too much cologne and trying to pick up dumb blonde girls wearing stupid heels to a dance party.
(not everyone was a moron.. I'm not accusing you... it's just the overall vibe I would get from those kind of clubs)

Yes sir. Always have been, always will be. The club scene in TO is terrible. Element, Tonic(Wednesdays only), Industry, etc. Those were clubs where people cared about the DJ, not getting wasted and starting fights.

Too much Miami, not enough Berlin.

Having met a few of you, I assume a bunch of you were clubbing and partying back before the smoking ban?

When I think back to those days oh man. I was in Vegas the last week and was struggling with the smoking that was going on in the casinos and that wasn't even a lot. It reminded me of going to Guvernment back in the day and coming home with bloodshot eyes, my clothes stinking of smoke and having to shower before going to bed because I smelled so bad from all that smoking.

Good times.

Oh. I didn't mean just Toronto. I meant in the world. I've played shows in almost every country and it was the same crap everywhere. The bigger the club, the worse the show. Shanghai, Berlin, Tokyo, London.. didn't seem to matter. Well maybe Berlin was more music heads since that city is full of techno fans that get fed up and move there but in that case you have to really like techno... whereas I sorta think techno is ok sometimes.

+1, every time I go to a place that still has smoking I cringe

Did you go to Voodoo in Vegas? Best view of the strip, ever

Will QA for food.
Are you guys followinthe Ford trial? He vows to run again if he's forced out of office over this. I shouldn't get too excited for the chance he'll be ousted, because it's probably a slim chance. And no one reasonable seems to want to run for the position..

I'm not hating condos, if I could make more money with a condo than having to deal with a liquor license and a club its a no brainer

I have a friend who doesn't understand this

I'm just touchy with all the people complaining about the boom. What they should be complaining about is lack of services, or amenities where they're building. Some projects and areas are brilliant, but then you have areas like mine where they've build a dozen condos with no real shopping, or entertainment within walking distance.

The Fire Department just hired a ton of firefighters to answer to the lack of services.

Not really against all these condo developments, but I share your opinion EM.

What's this I hear about Ford fucking up and getting all bags removed at stores come next year?

Kind of don't mind this, to be honest. Sucks for everyone who uses the bags as garbage bags (so, everyone), but if it's a step to being more environmentally friendly, I'm okay with it.

My work still hasn't gotten rid of the bag fees, and I'm not sure when they plan on getting rid of bags in general. We're technically not in the City of Toronto, so I'm not sure how it works out.

Agreed. The worst argument against the ban is "plastic bags only take up _% of a landfill" which I've heard all too often. Gee, you mean this flimsy bit of plastic that can be crumpled into a ball the size of a pea takes up a small amount of space? And yet will never decompose?

I wouldnt mind it if there were alternatives, but I highly doubt every store will provide biodegradable bags. Its just gonna cause more problems, especially so for taking out garbage.

Koreatown being hit by a dozen sexual assault incidents the last couple of months. Scary stuff. I usually enjoy walking around the area, but the area right in front of Christie Pits always seemed rather shady to me.

Would that make him easier or hard to identify, I wonder

I'm also on the side of more condos...more because I work in the industry so the more being built means the longer I have a job.

Terrible what's happening in Koreatown... hope they catch the guy soon.

The suspect is described as male, black, 25 to 40 years of age, 6-feet tall with short black hair and wearing black clothing.

The suspect in these four cases is described as male, black, 17 to 35 years of age, 5'7 to 5'9, medium and stalky build

So that describes every black guy in toronto, I guess, I won't be heading down there for a while. No pork bone soup for me :(

HAHA! Berlin on Eglinton. That was a fun, old school club way back in the day...

When I started clubbing places like Twilight Zone and Club Z were the origins of electronic music in the city. Stilife came along, as authentic a club experience as any you could ask for. Go-Go's was before Whiskey Saigon and is notable for being one of the first straight clubs to have a gay night (Go-Go Men on Wednesdays.)

Early Guvernment was something special. Toronto's own superclub. I've seen so many amazing acts there. House music had many safe harbours be it Colours, Gotham, Roxy Blu - to say nothing of the numerous warehouse parties tucked away in those old garment district buildlings.

For Those Who Know Tuesdays broke alot of barriers and proved that this city was ready to party when other places went to sleep. Everyone loved Industry with good reason, but after that I found that System carried the torch well enough. Even now Footwork is still good for music and dancing purests.

Then came the raves, first in old warehouses, then on city properties like the Automotive Building or the Better Living Centre. That's a whole other conversation. Connected parties with over 15,000 people, the first Wintergalactic, Destiny parties and on and on.

So no son, our scene was by no means garbage. It was big enough to have lots of everything and lots of it was very, very good. Those who were there, they know.

The rave scene in Toronto really was legendary. All the producers and DJs in the UK I talked to knew it as the best spot in North America for it. It was so huge and spanned any and all genres.

Kinda out of the blue and maybe stupid, but I was wondering if anyone know a good place to sell off your old phone? I have a Blackberry phone that I want to sell but kinda wonder where I should sell it to.

craiglist or a site like it would probably be the best place. depending on how old I think you can trade in phones towards a new phone.

I am looking there but was wondering if they is another way than Kijiji or Craigslist. The phone I own is a Blackberry Bold 9780 that is lock to Telus. Those site is one place I might consider but I kinda want some place that can buy the phone over cash as I don't really need another phone right now.
