Sagan got -80 points and +35 seconds.
And Sagans out of this race.
Here is the front on video which makes it clear Sagan doesn't hit Cavendish with an elbow.

.
looks like he did to me. went for another one and missed with that but there was contact the first time.
I don't even like Sagan that much and I feel this is a harsh call. Watch every sprint from any major race and this is going on.
Heck, watch Cav's sprints. Worst things have happened.
He was even involved in the first crash right after the flamme rouge.
Cav in 2013... seems a simmilar incident that didnt result in a DQ.

This looks way worse.
The problem I have with this is incident above all, is that is in a sense manufactured by the organization themselves.
Stages with 180-200k's of sensationless cycling, that ends in twisty and narrow sprint finishes.
This forces these kinds of mindless bouts of power where all sprinters involved are at risk of making mistakes.
The Tour themselves are as much to blame as the riders involved here.
There was no reason for this to end in a crash, considering there were so few of them and the road being large enough for a sprint like this. This is solely to blame on a rider's actions.
Knowing absolutely nothing about cycling, it doesn´t look like Sagan deliberately hits Cavendish with his elbow, but more like once he feels Cavendish next to him he deliberately pushes him with his shoulder/upper arm and his elbow rises afterward due to that momentum... I feel that this should probably also be very frowned upon?

Surprised Sagan got the DQ. Even while watching the replays I felt this was more Cav's fault for crowding in...
If anything, Demare started this whole thing with his slaloming all over the place.Safety and mass bicycle sprints don't go together, at all. They're all taking a gigantic risk just by doing it.
Also, Cav was taking a deliberate risk passing close to the barriers. Sagan was over aggressive in protecting his space, but it's mostly a race incident IMO. It's not like anyone stays in line these days, I mean look at Demare going zigzag like nuts, and rewarded with a win. Demotion for Sagan would've been the proper action. Or DQ for Sagan and demotion for Demare.
