This game is so fucking amazing. Watching 9 agile, nimbile goddamn dudes just swarm another pack of 4 or 5 guys skiing away for their lives, half of them turning in midair to take potshots back at their foes and then turning back to run away... so good.

Just one question, on the non-snowy CTF map, is that a vehicle pad beneath the mothership by the turret? And if so, how do I activate it?

Second floor of the base has a vehicle pad thing. By all the other supply pads

How do you deploy a turret as a technician? Or deploy other items for that matter.

Btw Vormund is my name in game. (Oceania)

Played 3 matches last night. I really enjoy it.

I will probably pay the 25 bucks for the VIP package they are offering, since earning enough tokens to unlock a single class seems like it would take months.

I'm still not sold at all on the whole in-match credits system. It just seems like it is limiting things unnecessarily. And it (as far as I can tell) it isn't even in service of their business model. You can't buy credits in-match, so it isn't like making vehicles not cost credits would make them lose money or anything. Hell, they could even have "vehicle certifications" be something you can buy.

But can someone please explain what the recahrge pack does? Nothing ever happens when I press C as far as I can tell. I've tried it when out of energy too.

My second choice was the Sentinel, as I always enjoy sniping in fps. Bamelin said earlier that he thought sniping was too weak, but I could hardly disagree more. The gun is accurate, has a high fire rate, and does decent damage depending on how long you take to shoot. Too be honest, I think it is slightly overpowered in the hands of a good player.

The Recharge pack aka the "energy pack" makes your energy recharge faster. Very useful if you plan on doing alot of skiing.

Regarding the sniper rifle ... I was speaking in relation to how powerful the sniper rifle was in Tribes 1. In the original game it was a 2 hit kill (1 hit if the guy had any damage at all already and you got a headshot). Part of the main use of sniping back in the day was to play D and stop cappers ... often the sniper was the ONLY one that could stop incoming and outgoing 200km/hr skiing flag cappers effectively. As it stands right now most cappers make it in and out without initially taking damage (or very little) and this is something similar to the orignal Tribes 1 ... the difference though is that the damage the sniper rifle does has been drastically changed ... I need somebody to be down to almost half health to be able to one shot them with the rifle ... with health regen being the way it is in this game combined with lower snipe damage, I'm finding the class to be alot less effective on Defence.

One thing to consider about the original Tribes franchise is that it was not "balanced" in terms of how modern FPS's are balanced. Heavy mortars for example had gigantic area of effect (I'd say mortars were at least doubly as dangerous as they are in Tribes Ascend), and sniping (unless enemy at) full health sniping was a one hit kill .... but people adapted. Most teams would have at least one guy on D whose job it was to take out offense snipers ... in the current game I find most people don't even bother as snipers just aren't all that much of a threat.

Skyrim is going to have to work hard to pry me from this game. Im the heavy with a missile launcher, really tough to get it right but I manage. Of course, people seem to want to kill me, which usually ends in my favor hah

I would looove to be able to get into this.

If any of you has a spare key, do not spare me of the burden of having to buy stuff - Ill do it! :D

One thing to consider guys ... speaking for myself I got a beta key given to me ... played the game for about 30 minutes and then immediately purchased the vip client which gives you beta access anyways ....

Personally I think it's totally worth it if you have any love for Tribes at all ... or alternatively you are looking for something different from "look down iron sight xp fests"

While the FTP model does have xp in it the key focus of the game is really not on unlockables ... The Tribes era hails from a day and age in FPS's that it was all about gameplay not xp.

I'm actually really happy with the FTP model ... I can unlock everything from the get go. The extra class abilities and perks sadly still have to be earned for each class but they have minor gameplay implications for the most part thankfully.

They just applied it and the servers aren't up yet.

I guess I'll wait to see if gold would be a better choice for me than a booster as my VIP-in. There may be something I want to unlock upfront.

So has anyone tried the game with the new patch? Apparently there were a ton of changes.

http://hi-rez.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/276

D'oh, I had just finished formatting the patch notes for here, oh well. Great improvments and bugfixes here. I'm really excited for:
* Fullscreen Windowed mode (<3 games with this)
* New Map for CTF and Rabbit (Drydock)
* No more speed caps on classes. I'm not sure if this is great or horrible. Fully expect to see heavy flag runners soon.
* Inventory Station triggers the immediate regen of health, woot!
* VIP bonuses now work on free servers in addition to VIP servers (which aren't in the game yet)
* Death Info Box lets you know what class killed you, and a bunch more info that's helpful.
* Fixed the Zoom bug
* Fixed the invisible wall bug on Katabatic by the generator, so frustrating!

Lots of great changes, can't wait to get home to try 'em out. Nice birthday present for me!

if anyone has a key for this i'd greatly appreciate it. i was an avid Tribes 1 player back in the day on my lowly Celeron 433 and Voodoo 3 card. jesus. that was a long time ago. :/

Excited to see what happens with the patch today. I think I need to stop playing the jumper, as that class ability combined with the amazingly sweet bolt launcher makes me feel the nerf bat is incoming. We'll see what happens.

Thanks to a friendly member here, don't know if he'd like me to mention his name, I am officially joining the party.

BF3 is officially on hold. :D

Wise decision. Tribes Ascend, truly the GOTF.

Won't load past the splash logo for me, though it was loading earlier. Weird.

Edit: All 4 cores are running, just grinding away around 30% load...

Edit 2: It let me in. I saw the strategically non-rounded gold prices for unlocks and went for the booster. I gotta eat lunch soon but I'm adding the people from that list at least.

Edit 3: It never loads a level for me, just crashes every single time. Perhaps the next patch will function for me.

Was thinking about playing Skyrim this weekend. With drydock and new physics, that plan is out. This evening and weekend can't come soon enough.

So... I guess it isn't crashing. It just locks up as it takes 5 minutes to load. I timed it. 5 minutes to launch the game, 5 minutes to load a level. How do I make them aware of this?

Someone who agrees with me!!

Sniper feels so underpowered in this game, it ought to be a crime! I had to shoot a guy three times to kill him, and the funny part was that he had been damaged by my teammates already.

Also, the secondary weapon for the Sniper is pretty much useless. After hundreds of shots taken, I finally managed to land one on a heavy enemy. Bastard tore me apart as soon as he caught me :/

I was watching the kudochop stream the guy a few posts up linked to and was thinking the exact opposite. He decimated people with the sniper rifle to the point that I felt that it needs to be nerfed.

I've heard though that there are two sniper rifles planned for the game ... the next one being the "original" laser one from Tribes 1 and 2. The current sniper rifle apparently trades damage for a high rate of fire. I'm hoping when the original sniper rifle loadout is released that it's a straight up hardcore Tribes 1 style rifle.

I should also say that I feel many complaining about the current sniper rifle being OP may not be familiar with the "standard" damage sniper rifles usually dished out in late 90's games (ie. one - two shots = death). FPS's in general were more hardcore in some ways, with 1 - 2 shot sniper rifles being pretty standard back in the day. The "fairness" of the sniper rifle came with the big ass laser beam that would show the enemy team exactly where you are.

There is something incredibly satisfying about pistoling someone out of the air. It doesn't have the flashiness of using a disc, but it still feels nice.

My experience right now is that people rarely go after snipers. I can assure you in Tribes 1 and 2, snipers were hunted down ruthlessly. What snipers had in terms of a slow but powerful shot, they lost the second somebody went after them ... not to mention firing the sniper rifle used up ALL the energy in your pack. I ended up with a spinfusor disc up my ass more times than I can count.

It's really not that bad, he's just *really* good at FPS games. Check out his youtube channel. Guy gets called a hacker in just about all the games he plays.

Current sniper rifles do the same thing, with a beige giant streak. Easy as pie to see where it's coming from and deal with it.
