True Detective - Season 2 - We get the Season we deserve - Sundays on HBO

Honestly, there isn't much else that can spoil the current situation.

Farrell is listed as appearing in all episodes this season via IMDB. He isn't dead.

IMDB is user edited like Wikipedia. That doesn't mean jack shit.

Although I'm sure he'll be in further episodes in some capacity. Whether alive or in flashbacks.

Well, it's still disappointing. It's a nicely shot run-of-the-mill murder mystery with 3 boring, brooding leads and Rachel McAdams. Collin is decent, but he's bordering on caricature, I hate Vince Vaughn and his stain monologue was almost on the level of TD parody and Kitsch is just a closeted homosexual non-entity. Sheesh.

The ending is bad no matter how it goes. If he survives that's a cheap cliffhanger. If he dies, well, why so much time wasted on setup in episode 1.

Maybe it will get interesting, maybe, but at the moment apart from the cast and cinematography (which is still great, even if not at the same level as season 1) it's absolutely nothing special.

Maybe. It's likely her sister that she's watching. Not sure how the dad fits into that. He fits somewhere in the grander scheme of things, though. Seems like a lot of manipulation and abuse in Bezzerides' past.

givent he comment of the guy she had a one night stand with, I think she just enjoys watching BDSM porn.
I am not sure but I thought her sister did just webcam striptease.

I thought she wanted anal. Sometimes the show is too intentionally obtuse.
My first thought was that she wanted to peg him.

In the preview for episode three, Lt. Burris says
"One of my officers gets shot, you better believe I'm going to be here." He didn't say "gets killed."

So that's pretty obvious.

Also,
Velcoro is in scenes in the trailer that haven't shown up in the show.

They ruined the actual surprise with the trailer.

And I thought she wanted to be slapped around / roughed up a bit.

....I wonder if the assumptions about what she wanted say something about the viewer....
No, Freud.

There's no way his reaction would be like that if all she wanted was for him to give her anal, so the most logical ones are the weirdest ones, so maybe some rough play (which has been speculated since the episode first aired) or pegging or something similarly abnormal.

I didn't think this was a reaction that a 30+ years old man would have about anal as well. it must be be something kinky.

It's that same reason that makes me doubt all she wanted was some rough sex.

As you said, this guy was somewhere between his late-twenties and mid-thirties. He lives in California. There's no way this would have been the first time some chick asked him to slap her around a bit.

Nevertheless, it was a pretty shitty way to introduce Antigone.

Yeah, that conversation wasn't about anal. If it was, it was about pegging.

It depends on how rough it would be. Slapping, pulling hair, etc. is different from something like *striking* or punching her.

I agree, though. Shitty way to introduce her, and they better not go down a "sexually abused young girl grows up to become woman who needs BDSM to get off". That would be some Thomas Harris-esque wankery.

My own sexual interests are too simple, I suppose lol. I'm leaning toward pegging too. Come to think of it, she is highly dominant. Would make sense.
Pizzolatto with his oh-so-subtle writing has done just about everything imaginable for us to get that she's rough and tough and masculine, so why wouldn't she also have penis envy? Haha.

Pretty on point, Squalor. And brings up another point, Pizzolatto refuses to let these characters breathe. Unlike the 1st season where Rust and Marty felt alive and lived-in, Everyone save maybe Velcoro feel telegraphed and too rigidly defined.

I like the new season, but it has some major faults currently.

Hmm, I didn't get the impression of sexual abuse in her past from the interaction with her dad.

we are still at the point where we hope it's not the case. because it would be such a cheap way to make her into BDSM and have the hidden knives etc.

You get it from her and Velcoro's conversation with Dr. Pitlor.

There was some sort of trauma:

(Paraphrasing)

Antigone: "There were five kids: two of them are in jail, two of them killed themselves."

Dr. Piltor: "And what of the fifth?"

Antigone: "She became a cop."

I'm just saying I hope that's the path they don't go down.

It's clear something fucked up went down at the commune, though. Don't know if the father knows about it or wants to cover it up or what, but nothing about it screams "this was a good place for these people" so far.

I enjoyed both episodes overall. there were some cringe moments here and there but it didn't distract from the overall package for me. Things are looking good so far.

The opening song is meh as fuck. They really should have played My least Favorite you as the opener. That song is fantastic and I can't get it out of my head. They fucked up there...

I genuinely think that her daddy never loved her and as we all know daddy issues makes a girl into a sexual terrorist

One daughter is a masculine kink (who may or may not have a pegging fetish).

The other is a cam whore.

The mother pulled a Virginia Woolf.

Shit went down on The Good People compound.

This confused me too- two are in jail, two killed themselves, and one is her... what about her sister? She's alive and not in jail... or were we meant to understand she actually got arrested following that raid on the webcam thing? Did I miss that?

Yeah, I thought the implication was that the sister we saw was arrested.

I like the song once the violins kick in, but it takes way too long to really get started.

If they weren't going to keep the song from season one, they should have just used "The Only Thing Worth Fighting For."

It's entirely possible the sister wasn't born yet.

Not that real-life age matters, but Rachel McAdams is entering her late-thirties (a lot older than I would have guessed). Leven Ramblin, the actress who plays Athena Bezzerides, is in her mid-twenties.

In the show, there could easily be a ten- or twelve-year age gap between them.

They could have left The Good People by the time Athena was born.

The sister didn't get arrested. She wasn't doing anything illegal.

Maybe this is some Sixth Sense shit and her sister's dead.

G Costanza: "It's not you, it's me"

Woodrugh: "It's you, not me"

Wonder how him being gay will work its way into the plot. That bank anecdote could not have made it more obvious.

He's going to hook up with Bezzerides.

She's going to be able to peg him.

He's going to love it.

He's going to come out.

True Dick? lol

I don't think she's a pegger. She probably just likes it rough, so I'm expecting DP with Velcoro and Woodrugh.

She was definitely talking about anal. The guy said "I didn't think women liked that sort of thing", if she had tried to peg him he would have said that he didn't like that sort of thing.

Anal seems so....vanilla. I'm thinking something violent like choking.

I don't get the harsh criticism; the second episode brought all sorts of fantastic. CF shot in the sex pad scene, CF and RM car chat, Doctor interview, Mayor interview, VV and the pimp, all good TV.

The first episode felt like a parody.

The second was much better.

The overhead helicopter shots are kinda meh. The editor is putting them in to link scenes kind of like a conjunction.

Whereas the previous season, the landscape shots let the scenes breathe a bit more. They had a lot more presence.

Rather than oh here's where the next scene takes place. Here's where the characters are travelling to next.
