Trump calls for ban on Muslim immigration

It stopped being funny when he said he was going to deport 11 million people and his polls surged as a result. How anyone is still laughing after that I have no idea.

Maybe we're laughing because we're trying to cope.

because he's doing insane damage to the GOP and has zero shot at becoming president.

that's why people are laughing.

GOP base really gonna force him to admit this was all a publicity stunt and he doesn't really want to be Pres. When he steps down he'll say "I can do more good from out here. I'm so good I don't even need to be president anyway."

I agree with Trump on this.

The best thing about this statement by Trump is that you can gauge by the various responses to it who is with us Americans and who is part of the problem.

And the idiots in the MSM can’t figure out why he’s doing so well in the polls.
So much truth in these comments.

Keep in mind that this is Glenn Beck's site, and he hates Trump. So if anything, you would think his audience would be less predisposed to agreeing with Trump. I mean just look at that comment. That poster says he agrees with Trump "on this."

While this is ultimately true, the RNC is taking notes.

They know that there's a huge base of angry, xenophobic racists that they need to tap into from now on. Going to make local, smaller elections particularly disgusting from here on out.

"Bill, everything you've told me to say through this campaign has failed. If anything, I've risen in the polls! These yokels are loving it - all of it!"

"Hmm.. that's a pickle. Try this!"

Trump is the perfect opposition plant. He did donate to the Clinton foundation in the past I believe and discussed running with Bill prior to announcing his candidacy this time around. I truly believe his whole campaign is an elaborate ruse to ensure the country does not fall to pieces with the GOP securing both the Executive and Legislative branches of government. He is just making the not-so-latent bigotry of much of the conservative base of this country viewable to the point of absurdity in order for the general public to witness in practice just how ridiculous the GOP and the conservative side of the country has become.

It is actually a brilliant plan, and if actually true, Trump might actually be one of the biggest heroes on the planet in retrospect. He would elevate the phrase "taking one for the team" to another level.

Seriously is Trump a drug user? His ramblings are really a bit strange. He is starting to sound like he is nearing insanity. Sure ban those who have been fighting for ISIS or who have extremist views, but you cannot just blanket ban everyone of the same race because of a few nutters.

It'll be interesting to see how much of the American news media is too terrified of the "liberal bias" accusation to call out fascism for what it is. (spoiler: most)
There aren't always two equal and opposite sides to every argument. Sometimes one person is just very, very wrong. And it's damaging as hell to act like they're not.

He's trying so fucking hard to end this farce, but the Republican base just isn't buying it. lmao

At this point Trump is another Forest Gump of the far right where despite bumbling through things almost intentionally he's reaching to ever newer heights in popularity.

And to think, the very GOP establishment that's so terrified of him getting the nomination created this monster.

Actually he was a Democrat for as long as I can remember and when he ran as a Republican the first time and even now the establishment Republicans and Fox News said nothing but bad things about him. Almost every pundit on Fox for the last 6 months has been saying he has no chance and that he isn't a serious candidate even going so far as to make him pledge in the first debate that he wouldn't run as an independent and slammed him for his long time friendship with the Clinton's.

So saying that the GOP "establishment" created him is hilarious. The establishment wanted Bush from the start there was no one else to them.

It's clear that the establishment wants nothing to do with him, they've made that clear.

But they're certainly taking notes. Obvoiusly what he's saying resonates with the Republican base, and quite a few of them at that.

There are polls where Hillary is only beating him by 10-11 points in a general election match-up. It makes me sad and a little afraid for the future.

Even if it's not Trump or 2016, we're going to get someone like him as president one day. God help us all.

I legitimately do not understand why other GOP candidates are afraid to call him out for this bullshit. Don't they realize that he's cannibalizing their entire party? Shit like this is going to be remembered for decades.

And the Muslims and mosques being targeted and terrorized? We're just gonna let that go?

Easy to laugh it off when you're not a group that Trump's bile is targeting.

"Quite a few Republicans" has never been the deciding factor in winning Presidential elections. You need to appeal to the moderate voters, and the GOP establishment knows that. He's no closer to winning the general election than Romney or McCain were (hell, those two were far closer than Trump ever will be).

They "created" him by frothing up the base with fear mongering bullshit via their marketing arm, Fox News. Not specifically Trump, but the idea that someone should be this fucking crazy, out of touch with reality, and have no real experience in the job he wants.

Yup.

Trump would lose worse than McCain. Dems would reclaim the Senate, and come close to retaking the House. Texas would be as competitive as it has been in a decade. Trump is an absolute disaster for the GOP in the making.

which candidates?

Cruz agrees with him, I'm sure. Rubio might even too.

Jeb! is the only one that criticizes, but he's so afraid of stepping on toes too much that it comes off as weak an ineffectual.

I'm with you. He's giving a voice to people who, frankly, don't deserve one. Not often racists who believe this kind of shit can say "look! I'm not crazy! This guy who thinks like me is the current GOP frontrunner!"

Shit isn't a joke. Really wish there weren't 3-5 Trump threads constantly on the front page of GAF.

Well that's the thing, we're not really that close. This is still the primaries, and his support makes up about 8% of the total electorate (may have changed slightly based on this last poll, but you get the point). This is just one bellowing irritable man and a small group of fanatical groupies making all the hoopla, but it doesn't necessarily translate into widespread support.

Yeah, I think I agree. We're not that close.

However, I still think we're a little too close for comfort.

I don't care that this is probably ensuring the GOP doesn't win the presidency. This is fucking toxic, and it's enabling and encouraging a dangerous cancer. This shit doesn't disappear once Clinton wins. It'll still be very present, festering in all kinds of communities and state/local governments.

Yeah, I've come around to the same realization.

Why should we be upset? We knew that there are a lot of stupid/xenophobic people in this country that have always been thinking what he's selling right now.

It's more of a 'I can't believe someone is actually saying this and running for the Presidency' that has us laughing.

Just read that 44 percent of Trump supporters think being Islamic should be illegal.

The worst part is only 24 percent think it should be legal.

n/m, I don't even want to joke about this man any more.

The fact that he's a candidate for the highest office in the land makes us all look braindead.

this is all so fucking dangerous... he has maybe a ~10-20% shot in a general if he wins the nomination, thanks to changing demographics but I really fear there's going to be a lot of violence in the next year...

I'm shocked anyone here is surprised. Trump may be the one saying it in public, but the environment for this has been festering, unabated for several years. You'll find as much vitroil and genocidal comments from the far right as you will any Jihadist message board.

When you have Presidential candidates (other than Trump) who call for carpet bombing Middle Eastern cities, or that this conflict is one of 'civilisations', the language is crystal clear.
