Trump on Twitter Attacking Republican Leadership

Priebus just told RNC staffers to 'do what's best for them' he cut them loose. Trump is supremely fucked.

This is amazing. In hindsight, it makes me sort of glad Trump was nominated. It's turning from a short term loss into a long term gain. It feels like the Republican Party is being irreparably damaged and *should* see some major changes after this election cycle. I'm actually a bit hopeful that a concerted effort toward a better level of civility in politics may be made over the next four years. I mean, everyone has to be at their breaking point with all this ugliness, right?

We can't afford to be this naive. These people talk a good game, while Trump is making a fool out of himself, but the second he disappears from the media circus, it's back to doing what they've always done. If they change, it'll be over decades, not years. Slowly, but surely, breaking free of the crazies as the crazies die off.

The GOP right now is a cornered animal, and when it sees no way out, it will lash out dangerously. They will not go quietly, and neither will the people who make the very demands that politicians are afraid of refusing to follow.

Why would the Republican party be over, it seems like people just vote for one or the other and even now find it hard to not vote for Trump or whoever is on the ticket. American politics needs a third party but people are set in their ways. If both parties had a Trump candidate of some sort, a third party still wouldn't win..

Well if a large part of the voter base for the GOP no longer trusts it and wants "anti-establishment" (in this case, rich establishment businessman Trump), then the situation may arise where the moderate Republican base won't vote for Trump but will vote downticket, and the Trump fanbase votes for Trump but won't vote downticket. In both cases it would lead to the democratic candidates winning.

If that continues into the future and the GOP's voting base (which already is shrinking due to demographic changes they won't address) is split in two, then they may not have enough voting base to win any presidential election and potentially senate and house races in the foreseeable future. If they have no power in the government, what good are they as a party?

I remember some people be concerned about violence if Obama was elected, but i'd honestly be surprised if there isn't violence if Trump loses. His supporters seem genuinely unhinged. And he's fed them every conspiracy theory (such as how the only way he can lose is if there's voter manipulation) along the way to make sure they're that way.

i think if we can make it through the inauguration without incident we should be good with any immediate threats.

I honestly can't believe I'm witnessing this. My dad would tell me all the time that the GOP would rue the day they brought in the crazy religious zealots that would eventually take over the party. He even told me it was over when Trump won the primary. I never believed him because I thought the party was to established. Sure it was nuts, but no way they would bring themselves down in a single election.

Yet, here we are. History in the making.

I would like to inform you that this is offensive. Don't compare Hades to Trump. #ItsHeraclesNotHercules

Only fitting that his voice actor supports Trump. Sorry.

Dude, I don't care about the English voice actor of Hades. I'm just saying that you shouldn't insult Hades. Disney's portrayal of him was bad enough. :P

Oti has Greek origins, if anyone wonders.

But do Republican voters actually care about the Party at all?

It seems to me modern Republicans just cling to whomever is in charge and/or getting the spotlight. I can't imagine too many conservatives are going "well if Boehner doesn't like him, I can't support him".

You really think they'll even wait for the election to be over?

Well, I guess technically it's already started given what goes on at his rallies.

I really expect shit to go down on election night. Like I said, Trump has done nothing but fan these flames. I remember back in 2008 when things started getting bad at McCain rallies, he actually stood up and tried to calm things down. He told people at a rally that he disagrees with Obama on some issues but he's a decent man and they don't have to fear him as president. He at least tried to put out the anger that was growing with his supporters. Trump on the other hand feeds off that hate and wants to keep it going. So what happens with all that anger and hate if he loses?

Most of the conservative icons are denouncing Trump and backing away. It's not just a couple of legislators. They are sending the loud message of "this man is not one of us". This absolutely makes a significant difference in the eyes of true conservative voters.

Does it make a difference to the basket of deplorables? Not one bit.

Republicans have been cultivating this caricature for 35 years and they deserve nothing less. This should end like Mary Shelley's Frankenstein.

And then rise from the ashes in 2020 with the Bride of Frankenstein! Sarah Palin is back!

I'm more saying that the Republicans are basically over if they don't continue to support Trump-like candidates, since there's still going to a huge amount of support for a Trump like candidate four years from now. Someone with less baggage but the same bluster could run four years from now and really clean up against Hillary, IMO.

Unfortunately for Republicans the two always go together.

The governor of Kentucky was threatening bloody revolution if Trump lost.

That's what I mean: the basket of deplorables is basically every person who voted Republican, ever, except for as you say the "icons" and maybe some of the more intelligent and educated "everymen".

The right wingers I personally know in every aspect of my life (work, family, colleagues, etc) are all still supporting him and now basically calling for every Republican leader to stand down and be replaced by a Trump supporter.

Yup. Election night is going to be nasty. Also yea you may not agree with McCain but you have to give him props for being a guy who's always tried to be civil to the other side.
