It's not the same thing at all.
A) Obama knows what he's doing, not because he personally is so smart but because these decisions were made after careful considerations by foreign policy experts in the WH and elsewhere in the administration,
B) none of Obama's decisions had the potential to fundamentally upend the status quo of the US's 'One China' policy; the purpose was to show possible retaliations over China's actions in the South China Sea, i.e. usual diplomatic back and forth,
C) Trump's action today was, at best, a dangerous gaffe, at worst it signals a fundamental shift in US foreign policy, not made after careful considerations of the potential advantages and disadvantages of such an action, but
apparently because the transition team of the President-elect told him to take a phone call.
