President Donald Trump is set to sign an order to greatly reduce the role climate change plays in decision making across the U.S. government, Bloomberg reported, citing a person familiar with the administration's plan.

The order, which could be signed this week, aims to reverse former Democratic President Barack Obama's broad approach for addressing climate change, the report said. (bloom.bg/2nkDvKo)

The directive will urge the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to undo the Clean Power Plan, the Bloomberg report said.

The Clean Power Plan is Obama's centerpiece initiative to combat climate change, requiring states to slash emissions of carbon dioxide, but it was never implemented due to legal challenges launched by several Republican states.

According to the report, the measure would direct U.S. regulators to rescind Obama-era regulations limiting oil industry emissions of methane, a potent greenhouse gas.

The order will also involve a reconsideration of the government's use of a metric known as the "social cost of carbon", which weighs the potential economic damage from climate change, Bloomberg reported on Tuesday.

Trump has long signaled his intention to reverse Obama's climate-change initiatives, but the Republican president has vowed his planned overhaul of green regulation would not jeopardize America's water and air quality.

Reuters reported earlier this month that the White House had proposed to slash a quarter of the EPA's budget, targeting climate-change programs and those designed to prevent air and water pollution like lead contamination.

The Bloomberg report said that some of the changes could happen immediately, while others could take years to implement.

I know that normally we're supposed to hear about the horrible things Trump does and then insult him, but OP's method is honestly a lot more efficient.

I was about to say something snarky about the title, but honestly, it's a good representation of how I feel.

Can we give America its own little planet to destroy instead of ruining it for the rest of us?

If we got rid of China and the US then we could save the planet.

I don't know if they realize how much resentment further generations will harbor towards the countries who are the most responsible for climate change. Like I bet most people think America is gonna go down in history as the savior of the free world, the shining village upon a hill etc... when all people will remember in a few centuries is how America bears most of the responsability for destroying our habitat.

China for all its problems is at least officially on board with man-made climate change and the need for serious action. AFAIK the US is the only major world power that doesn't want to play ball.

They don't care, neither Trump's government. nor republicans, or even a lot of Americans. I've seen US GAFers act dismissive about how America and Americans are being viewed. Many Americans are not shy about the fact they don't care about the rest of us.

I don't think Americans care how others view America.

"They hate us 'cause they ain't us!"

Man, is anybody else getting exhausted from all of this? We're like barely 2% of the way through this presidency and my soul is tired.

It's like he has eternal shit-brain stamina or something.

I wish I shared your optimism.

He's right though. When the heatwaves and super typhoons become a yearly occurrence it'll be hard to deny the realities. Of course, by then we're all fucked anyways.

Unless you meant there won't be further generations in which case never mind.

But thank you America for giving us all a big middle finger, much appreciated.

Can't help yourself to slide in that China bit eh?

What if China and Europe worked together to implement severe trade sanctions with the US if they did not work to acknowledge and minimize climate change?

The entire world needs to crack down hard on this. This is something that will LITERALLY make some countries uninhabitable in the not too distant future.

For real, I'm already spent. I can't believe we have to endure this for years.

I really really don't understand how fighting climate change for the benefit of big oil could be a viable plan for any political party. Like you're not just screwing the planet, you're screwing your country's economy. You can't rely on non-renewable resources forever and by doubling down they're only prolonging the necessary transitions they need to take while making it a steeper and steeper hill to climb when they do -- meanwhile the rest of the world's already climbing that mountain. Basically a Nintendo & HD situation, and America's got the future of the Wii U.

Still waiting for a single good action by Trump. They're all pure evil.

There'll be more generations, there's not enough buried carbon for us to make the Earth uninhabitable.

I guess we could nuke ourselves to death over scarcer and scarcer resources though!

Haha, what? Uninhabitable for what is the question. Life will likely carry on no matter how much fossil fuel we burn. The question is whether humans can persist or not in anything resembling modern civilization.

For humans. Our ancestors went through some rough ass shit too.

That said with our current technological level the stakes would be a lot higher because now we can both wipe each other out and we can actually render unusable the very land we'd be fighting over which is something our ancestors couldn't do. Couple that with how most civilians would likely fair on their own without all the modern amenities and we do have a recipe for disaster. I'm just saying it'd really be us doing ourselves in. Somewhere on the planet there'd be places adequate for humans to live so it wouldn't be nature doing us in. What would do us in would be how bad would the nations of Earth all fight for those places?
