Just caught the premiere of Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated on Cartoon Network. I'm sure it's a bit preemptive to be singing its praises after just one episode, but I could easily see this show going on to become my favorite Scooby series.

This show does a great job of taking the "essence" of Scooby Doo and modernizing it. By this I mean having the whole gang together (after too many series starring just Scooby and Shaggy and adding new characters like Scooby Dum or Scrappy) solving mysteries with a healthy balance of comedy, just like the original series. The show has been tweaked in a number of ways from Scooby Doo, Where Are You? The most apparent change would be the awesome new art style, made more awesome by the upgrade to HD. Another big change comes in the humor that if actually funny, a first for Scooby Doo, in my opinion.

While the characters still play the same roles in the group, their personalities have been more developed. Fred is humanized and not played out to be Mr. Perfect, and has an interest in traps, Velma is sarcastic and even flirtatious (!) , Daphne seems to be more emotional, especially in regards to her relationship with Fred. Scooby and Shaggy, from what I've seen so far, are mostly the same, but this is not a problem, because they were always the two most fleshed-out characters. We were also introduced to the families of each of the characters, which helps fill in their backstories. But probably the most exciting change of all is the introduction of an extended plot arc. The episode was titled Chapter One and introduced several plot points and characters I'm sure we'll be seeing again later on in the season. I'm so excited for the possibilities! One disappointment I had stemmed from the focus on making the most out of said changes, with less emphasis being placed on the mystery itself. When it came time to explain the methods and motives of the criminal, I thought the explanation was a bit lacking. Having said this, this could have been am episode-specific problem, but we'll see how it plays out in subsequent episodes.

Tl;dr: Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated is shaping up to be my favorite series ever, and you should watch it! Mondays at 8 on Cartoon Network.

I started watching "Six feet under" a couple of weeks ago. But now it's been a while since I last saw it. Really great show though.

Lie to Me S02E15: Another great episode and we get to hear Cal call someone a Wanker which as an English person makes me very happy :D

Also just watched the first season of The Mentalist. Vert good show, really didnt like the female characters for the first bunch of eps as they were just typical "even though you solve our cases every week im deciding not to trust you on this case" but thankfully they got a llot better.

I have heard some people say the show is unbelievable and to be fair i understand what they mean but honestly without some crazy stories shows like this would juist become boring dealing with the same shit.

Also Jane is such a great character, great fun but you really get a sense of the anger he holds for Red John which is a nice contrast to have. I loved the part where he asks a women who kills out of revenge "was it worth it?" and you just know he means it when he says he is going to kill RJ, you dont see that blatent determination to kill from many protagonists these days (except for good old Dexter :D ).

Gonna start watching the second season today and am really looking forward to it.

FYI: the Milch/Mann/Hoffman/Nolte/HBO horseracing show got picked up.

HBO Places Its Bet on Milch and Mann's Luck
Posted by James Poniewozik Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at 1:24 pm

And they're off! HBO, which has been beefing up its regular-series roster heavily in the past year, has ordered to series Luck, a drama set in the horse-racing world, created by David Milch, starring Dustin Hoffman, and its pilot directed by Michael Mann.

Given the roster of names in that previous sentence, I would have been stunned had HBO not picked up the series, as I've said before. But the network is sparing no verbiage in describing its enthusiasm for Mann's pilot.

The series begins shooting in the fall (not long after the recently announced Game of Thrones). The announcement after the jump:

HBO has picked up the new drama series LUCK, it was announced today by Michael Lombardo, president, HBO Programming. LUCK is a provocative look at horse racing – the owners, gamblers, jockeys and diverse gaming industry players. LUCK begins shooting this fall at Santa Anita Park and other Los Angeles locations.

“Michael Mann delivered a pilot from David Milch's brilliant script that took our breath away,” notes Lombardo. “We are truly excited that these two artists, and our extraordinary cast headed by Dustin Hoffman, will be bringing LUCK to life.”

The cast for the pilot stars Dustin Hoffman, Dennis Farina, John Ortiz, Kevin Dunn, Richard Kind, Jason Gedrick, Ritchie Coster, Ian Hart, Tom Payne, Kerry Condon, Gary Stevens and Nick Nolte. Jill Hennessy guest stars.

Pilot credits: executive producers, David Milch, Michael Mann and Carolyn Strauss; co-executive producer, Henry Bronchtein; producer, Dustin Hoffman; written by David Milch; directed by Michael Mann.

Just finished a marathon of Mad Men season 3.

Fuck me, this season was so damn good, better than the past two which I also thought were excellent. I am literally shaking in excitement for season 4 in a weeks time. I fully expect Mad Men to win Outstanding Drama again at the Emmys because it fucking deserves it. They just nailed everything perfectly this season. Everyone who hasn't seen this show needs to watch it now. Holy shit it's good.

I'm on vacation on Panama right now so when I get home I need to catch up on: Louie, Tosh.0, Hung, and Entourage. I liked Treme and The Pacific a lot but I was very busy with school so I ended up not watching probably the final 5-6 episodes on each of those and I want to catch up completely.

And before I left for my trip I rented Weeds S4. I had given up on Weeds after going through 3.5 seasons in about 2 weeks so it was a combination of being burnt out and the fact that I thought the
tunnel in the maternity store
was a little ridiculous because at that point I had the mindset that unless Nancy was scoring her stuff from the 40 year old virgin dude that the show was getting too weird. Right where I left there were soooo many moments that rewarded me for coming back...

Off the top of my head:
Esteban smacking Nancy's ass in the limo, thinking Doug was committing suicide and it turned out he was whacking it with a noose around his neck, seeing how deeply affected Andy was by Nancy's pregnancy (the whole bathroom scene where Nancy spilled her guts to Andy was magnificent), Silas going down on Julie Bowen's character, coked out Celia had a good mix of annoying and funny (I always applaud the actress who portrays Celia because she makes me hate her so much when she does stupid shit but that means she is doing a good job acting by making me hate), and the scene with Andy and Doug in the back alley where they are confronted by that guy Andy shot in the leg are what I can make out off the top of my head.

edit:
#1 most powerful scene of the season was Nancy coming to terms that she has been neglecting her sons their entire lives while on the phone in the car ordering a cake? (or flowers?) for Silas. #2 was the Nancy and Andy bathroom scene.

Need to catch up on: Louie, Tosh.0, Entourage, Hung, Weeds S5. And when I'm finished with that which shouldn't take that long, my local library has the definitive gold box edition of Twin Peaks which I have heard a lot about so I'm very excited for that too. I didn't even know the show existed until about a week ago.

I recently found Iron Chef America, after probably years of missing out (Wikipeida says 92 episodes exist). Two episodes a day are airing on Food Network UK though, so I am catching up quick. I love the Chairman.

I got my wife the complete series of Gilmore Girls for Mother's Day. I have to say, I'm really enjoying it - a lot more than I thought I would. We're up to season 5 now, and Lauren Graham and Scott Patterson both knock it out of the park on a regular basis.

I've grown tired of Rory at this point, but Luke and Lorelai are awesome.

heh.. i'm up to season 4 myself.. really charming show.

i'm kind of the opposite though.. i wish lorelai would take a valium or something cause her hyperactivity kinda grates after a while.

i'm also rewatching sopranos for the 3rd time.. my favorite show eva.

The Japanese version came out in 1993. The Food Network dubbed the Japanese version. The American version came out in 2005.

I recently finished watching "Archer", and it's much better than I expected. I like how Jessica Walter's character is near identical to her character in Arrested Development. It's still weird having coach mcgirk's VA voices someone who is supposed to be "cool", but it still works.

I finally finished watching all 9 seasons of The X-Files via Netflix streaming. Man season 9 was so bad. I couldn't finish the 3rd episode of that season. Took a month break and finally watched all the episodes. Don't like what happened to Scully's
baby
during the final season.
Did the shot Spencer gave the baby make him normal? If so, her giving him up was kinda pointless. The Super Soldiers wouldn't come after him anymore. Also, I still don't understand why the Super Soldiers didn't take Scully's baby away right after she gave birth.

Also, the finale blew except for the last 20 minutes. It was just basically
a retelling of the whole series via the courtroom testimonies
.

I haven't seen the series in awhile but
she gave up William because of the life she knew she would eventually have to lead. On the run/never stopping.

Go check out the X-Files wikia. http://x-files.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page It should help with a lot of your questions.

Anyone watch the first episode of Childrens Hospital on Adult Swim last sunday?
It has Rob Cordry, Ron from Party Down and some other funny people. It was pretty good but I think it would definitely benefit from having full 30 minute episodes, the AS standard 12 minutes was way too quick.

6 episodes left in Deadwood, and it's killing me knowing that this is coming to an end soon and, from what I've heard, a pretty abrupt one. Such a great show.

Im dieing to see more V. Started out awesome then kind of got iffy with teenage angst/Supergirl love story but then pulled out the awesome in the end.

Just finished the first season of Breaking Bad. It was fucking awesome, although it's a shame that the writers strike ended it on such a cliffhanger.

So excited to start season 2.

Season two and season three are both as good or better than season one. Have fun!

Stumbled into watching Covert Affairs a few nights ago. Never heard anything about it before it aired, and actually just watched in cause Piper Perabo was in it -
I liked Coyote Ugly back in the day
- and she has not been in anything in years.

I really liked it, and it seems like it could be heading somewhere decent too. I kinda thought the buddy who was blind, and the marriage-problem boss couple were a bit contrived, but kinda grew to like them and did not mind them after the hour was up.

With Chuck. Human Target, and now Covert Affairs I think my spy show fix is very much full :)

I want a "Wire" or "Shield" level spy show; this doesn't seem like it's gonna be that. Granted I didn't know much about it so no harm done for me.

I'm only a few episodes in, but I needed a new show and I decided on the X-Files. I love the paranormal and aside from watching the occasional episode when it was on TV, I haven't seen much of it.

Finished Baki the Grappler season 2.

I have no god damn idea what that last episode was supposed to be about.

Was it really just tacked on to have a parochial jab at America ?

Deadwood completed.

Unbelievable that stuff like this gets canceled while 90% of the rest of television continues to renew seasons of garbage every year. This is just way too soon. The scene in episode 11 of season 3 where
most of the major of the characters start to come to terms with one another in The Gem, and really connect without any feuds playing a part of it was heartbreaking knowing that the show was over, and not with a proper ending, after the next episode.
The tension in the season 3 finally was perfectly executed, and I can easily say there was not one weak episode during its 3 season run. Definitely up there with the best that HBO's ever going to offer.

Started watching IT Crowd SE 4, is it just me or were the two first IT crowd episodes kinda unfunny? Sure they were some fun moments here and there but not nearly as brilliant as the "handicapped" espisode. Maybe I'm just spoiled by Father Ted..

I've seen all of Season 1 and most of 2. My recommendation is dependent upon your tolerance for stand alone episodes because there are quite a few of them. But the overarching mystery behind the show is excellent!

Fringe is a weird one. It seems like the good episodes come in waves, and when it gets good, it gets REALLY good.

Season 1

Premier: Not a good gauge as to what the show is about, it has a completely different feel now than what was going on here
Episodes 2-13: Loads of decent episodes, nothing hugely stand-out, but still good stand-alone episodes for a TV series
Episode 14: OMG they just tied that together. OMG, WHAT, OMG, OMG, OMG, OMG
Episodes 15-Finale: Loads of great episodes that tie the whole season together, and it ends with a bang

Season 2:

Premier: OMG, THEY ARE CONTINUING FROM THERE, OMG, OMG OMG. Who the fuck is this new chick?
Episodes 2-3: Where is the new chick gone?
Episodes 5-13: Good stand alones, some stinkers (enough to make GAF question "where did the good Fringe go" in the official season 2 thread)
Episodes 14-15: Starts getting good again with some corkers
Episode 16: OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG
Episodes 17-19: More good stuff that ties stuff together
Episode 20: Missed opportunity to be something very special
Episodes 21-Finale: More good stuff, and an interesting 2 part finale with a nice close that sets stuff up greatly for season 3

Alias lite.

Not just that, but an Alias Lite dating back from the direct aftermath of Alias's first series, let alone four years after Alias finished. It really does feel very dated.

And the concept of her closest CIA ally being blind seems awfully artificial. What's the point in having a blind character that might as well not be blind due to their use of technology and ridiculous powers of hearing and deduction? Well, apart from that one episode where you take the technology away from them, obviously. OOOO, PERIL!

Oddly enough, I spotted Clarke Peters (Lester Freamon) slumming in it.

There are plenty of weak spots for me, but that wasn't one. The actor who plays him is good enough to pull it off. I am, however, already wincing at the unrequited love angle that will worn by him throughout the series.

But I'll keep watching. Piper Perabo made a convincing case for it with that bikini at the end.

Been catching up on the last season of 24, and only have the final two episodes left. 24 was the first show ever that I followed like a slave, but when actual high-quality shows started popping up on my radar (The Sopranos, The Shield, The Wire, Mad Men, Sons of Anarchy etc. etc. etc.) I became disenchanted with 24. Still, I had watched all seasons until the 8th (seasons 6 and 7 were horrible), and whatever, I figured I'd finish off the show.

Bad idea.

Good lord does this show fucking blow. The show pretty much begs you to disconnect your brain and accept the enormous leaps of logic that are thrown at you every fucking minute. The start of the season was somewhat promising, but as it chugged along, more outlandish and ridiculous elements were stuffed in every episode, and by the time the 22nd episode finished (the one where Bauer goes all Army of Two), I almost started crying. Ah well, only two episodes left, let's just wrap this up so I can start watching season 3 of Mad Men.

I hope the writers of 24 never manage to land other jobs ever again.
