Twin Peaks Season 3 OT |25 Years Later...It Is Happening Again

loved this episode, I've loved all 6 episodes so far honestly. and the more I think about it the more this is becoming one of the best things Lynch has ever done for me. Its getting high up there on the list. and because of that I think its also among some of the best television I've ever seen too. i sound like such a fanboy heaping all this praise but fuck man I can't help it, I'm very satisfied so far.

I get being frustrated with how long it is taking Cooper to come back, I wonder if they want us to be anxious and annoyed at the Dougie scenes or what. They're always entertaining for me though but I want Cooper back as well. However, while we got him I'll take it. Sonny Jim, the insurance characters and especially Naomi Watts as his wife have been pretty enjoyable in that storyline.

few other thoughts:

- holy shit that kid from the bar is a complete psychopath. both him and Chad are pieces of shit. i think the deplorable nature of the bad characters has ratcheted up big time since the prior two seasons. this nut job even makes Leo look a bit better in comparison

- lmaooo at the dork in the truck who waved the kid the right of way to cross the street and then facepalmed in sadness after that tragic incident. that was classic Twin Peaks in injecting some goofy humor in what is otherwise a terrible moment.

- Balthazar Getty was pretty cool in here too, though I dunno what the hell is up with that that frozen coin in the air trick. I wonder if the kid was just tripping balls or what, thats some strong coke if so. also...I guess Shelly really likes fucking with the wrong people

- can't wait to hear from Denise, Laura Dern was bound to show up in this show at some point.

- the little person with the ice pick was pretty creepy. juxtaposing that cheesy song with the hip hop beat and this little person with a ice pick committing really brutal acts of violence made for a jarring scene. more stuff like this please.

So how many people are after Dougie at this point? We got two groups of hitmen, shady casino people, a murderous ghost referred to as 'mother' and now a psychotic little person.

Also Dopplecoop himself who has supernatural powers.

How the hell is Coop gonna survive this mess. Mike needs to lay down the law and pull Dopplecoop back in.

I love how windswept is a reoccuring theme.
I love the music. Windswept is incredible.
Also the Woman's Theme/Midget Murdering Spree Theme: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R4nAvDXpvHk
Like the beat, hate the vocals.
I'm still of the opinion that if the season continues as it is, it may be remembered down the line as Lynch's magnum opus. I can see why some in the moment don't like waiting week by week for something slow pace, but I think it truly is an 18-hour long Lynch film and I think some of the best individual scenes Lynch has ever produced are popping up in this series. I mean, we still have 2/3rds to do but it's tapping into like every faucet of Lynch's works in different scenes and I am finding myself engaged by it in a way I'm not used to by television, but it's hard to explain.

I can see why some people won't like it at all or enjoy all of it, but I legitimately think if it continues like this that this might end up being my favorite thing Lynch has ever done. And I think this season may be remembered down the line and analyzed end and back years from now, I honestly think it will be. This might sound pretentious or something, I don't know but I just have that feeling that this is going to grow more in the future than it specifically is right now, it feels like I'm watching something that's going to have one hell of a legacy.
This might be Lynch's last hurrah so he is really going all out. Everything he ever learned is being put into this. I'm really enjoying the ride.

I didn't like the drugdealer's magic powers or his knockoff Two Face shtick, since it feeds into the new season's trend of making the supernatural more banal. In the original series it was reserved to just a few individuals, and almost exclusively in just a few specific locations. Now everybody's shitting magic all over the place.
I definitely get what you are saying but I think it is intentional. Seems like more of the magic from the Lodge is pouring into Twin Peaks.
Tonight, felt like a bunch of moments either written for fan theories, or showing that fans got things right back after FWWM. Electricity! The sign posts! "I've already been places." The classic stoplight changing colour to red!

Loved it.

Before this episode I was actually watching a bunch of lore vids and I feel like I'm starting to piece things together. I know neither Frost or Lynch will ever truly explain things and I prefer it that way but there is a lot of clues to interpret. Electricity has definitely become a huge theme of this season.
Cant stand how Dougie Coop is still out of it. I swear after he got his coffee the first time he was going to be back but its been atleast 2 episodes since and still no sine of him ever coming back. Kinda dissapointed it been this long already.
I think a lot of people are missing some subtle signs that Coop is coming back. When he is talking to his boss he says, "Make sense of it" and it seems like a bit of the old Coop comes back. The same way in ep.5 he said "He's lying" in a clear cognizant voice. Old coops still in there. I don't expect him toever truly recover though.

He's barely recovering, he's basically just barely getting by. There's going to have to be a moment where he becomes Coop again, rehabilitation at the rate it's going at would take far longer than 18 episodes. I would be pretty surprised if we go past the halfway point and he's still like this.

I'm finding the talk about how unrealistic some of the Dougie stuff is to be pretty hialrious. I mean realism in regards to David Lynch is already a laughable idea, and especially with this particular plotline? I mean come on people, Dougie, Janey-E, and Sonny Jim? Look at those names.

"Go upstairs and say goodnight to Sonny Jim."

"Look at you two holding each other like that..." *exaggerated trembling sigh*

"What kind of world are we living in where people can behave like this?! Treat other people this way without any compassion or feeling for their suffering!"
Just look at her when she picks up the phone.
Or her entire demeanor on the phone or the way she handles the loan sharks.

Janey-E is situated nowhere near realism, to compare her to a previous Twin Peaks character she is cut from the same cloth as Nadine.

How did this show just get me to laugh near uncontrollably at a brutal ice pick murder spree

Holy hell what just happened

This whole episode was walking the line between hilarious and disturbing.

I loved how he was so sad at the icepick being bent after murdering people

I'm not sure why so many people think cooper getting back to normal is so important. I understand he's a favorite character when he was "normal" but he is one of many and the weird characters are his foil no matter how he acts

I think it is largely the framing, he just kind of runs down the hallway and it happens with his victim-to-be unaware of what is about to come through the door but we get to see it clear as day. And nothing about the sequence tries to sell us that this is some super traumatic stuff, the music, the little jockeying for position they do before he charges her, and then when the violence happens it is so brutal it reads as comical. And then he chases someone else!

It was a wonderful scene.

It was also quite similar to the Mulholland Drive scene, where the killer ends up killing two other people who saw him.

Anyone got an idea of what the bigger picture regarding electricity could be? From the poles in this episode (which reminded me of FWWM) to Coop going through some sort of outlet in the space basement, it seems to be a recurring thing that I haven't been able to make much sense of yet.

Good episode.

Albert 'Fuck Gene Kelly' Rosenfeld continues to be the greatest.

While many predicted Laura Dern's role, who predicted the wig?

Who stashed the diary pages in the toilet? My first thought was Bobby (it might contain evidence of his murder) however that makes no sense because surely he'd just destroy it, not hide it in the station?

The hit and run scene was terrifying.

So good to see Carl Rodd.

There is a sense of weirdness and the bizarre in nearly every scene. People acting strangely and awkwardly. It is both off-putting and intriguing. I love little things like that one guy who was enjoying that green tea latte way too much.

right. i think it was the music and plus a dwarf just running amok that made it funny but god damn was it also brutal too.

Oh yeah, during Rodd's ride to town, he and his co-rider were discussing Linda. So both Richard and Linda have been referenced in some capacity now.

My prediction for the closing moments of the series:

The reunited Cooper, Hawk, Truman and other residents of Twin Peaks celebrate the vanquishing of evil at the sheriff station. Cooper glances around the room, where he sees a television, a DVD player and a pile of movies. The movie on top of the pile - Annie Hall. The camera focuses on Cooper as a feeling of realisation slowly appears on his face.

Written by David Lynch and Mark Frost.

Credits.

I'm not sure exactly but the Lodge beings are tied in some way to electricity. There is a ton of electricity symbolism in FWWM. This season the electricity stuff has been really prominent. Especially in the sound design. All kinds of cracks and pops in the audio. I remember when I was really into FWWM I read some decent analysis of the electricity stuff. I can't remember where. I do remember it talking about Philip Jeffries being sent from the Lodge through the phone lines into the FBI building. Electricity seems to be the conduit between this world and the Lodge.

Hello, Diane. That was cool.

Coop's story really needs to get a move on. The scene with the kid was cute but this is getting aggravating. At least he's back in the suit.

Naomi Watts is awesome.

I can respect that Lynch aint fucking around with these deaths scenes but I made liberal use of the fast forward button through that ice pick scene.

Is it just me or is Mädchen Amick looking younger by the episode? It's almost unnerving.

"FUCK GENE KELLY!". Heh.

"FUCK GENE KELLY YOU MOTHERFUCKER"

Slayed me. Absolutely had to pause my DVR for a few seconds as I was just laughing at the spontaneity of it. Miguel Ferrer left this world too soon. I'd trade him for half of the old ass people currently in the White House.

Fantastic episode. Dougie is a national treasure. I hope we get old Coop back soon, but autistic Dougie is doing it for me at the moment. And Janey is amazing. What a great scene with her and the 2 gangsters (why hello there Jeremy Davies, I saw your mom on another show the same night).

And the midget assassin, jesus, another time I had to pause the show. Seems like stories are starting to converge and take form, so I'm excited. Another 12 hours of this craziness, you are not prepared.

I absolutely LOVED episode 6. Its brilliant absolutely awesome. I knew he wasn't doing something stupid with those case files. Holy shiit the scene with that thugh and the coin terrific. And the hit and run, damn

If the Ice Pick Killer starts rushing Dougie Coop and Coop gets a flashback to The Man from Another Place pre-tree evolution, I'm gonna die.

But with the way things are going on this show, a plane will probably crash right on top of him and Dougie Coop will walk away without a care.

<3 that they brought back the old school streetlight shot too.

I'm kinda expecting dougie to regain Coopers self defence skills and take out the ice pick dwarf after seeing that boxer poster.

That sounds ridiculous but anything is possible here

Two insane moments of violence that had me smiling from ear to ear like a sadist.

The whole scene with the kid and the mom, from the weird "game" they were playing to the bystander reactions, was straight out of The Room.

This is why we watch.

I'm in the same boat with those who think the Dougie stuff needs to get a move on, but I think people who are still befuddled by his behavior and how people are reacting to him are missing some key things. The first being that his wife explicitly says at one point, 'I see you're going through one of your episodes,' which implies that this isn't the first time Dougie has gone into this state. The fact that everyone around him just going about their business means his behavior isn't that weird to them, which goes into the idea that this isn't a new thing for Dougie and people have become used to it. His wife in this episode also says that maybe it's time to see the doctor now, implying this has gone for longer than usual.

I get the distinct feeling that Dougie is supposed to have some type of autism. I don't think it's that abnormal for higher functioning autistic people to mostly be fine, but sometimes be triggered into shutting down for days at a time. So, it's weird to us, but for every one else it's just Dougie going through one of his 'episodes.'

That's my take anyway. It may just be Lynch doing something weird to be weird, but I feel that explains why everyone around Dougie is so nonchalant with how he's acting.

Yeah, man.

Every time we hit the Bang Bang Bar I get choked up. Very rarely do I have emotional responses to film or TV these days.

Also, a small thing, but I loved the revelation that the Sheriff's wife is behaving hysterically because of emotional trauma and not just because she's a harridan.

The acting from everyone has been so good, especially with what they are required to do. Kyle MacLachlan has been incredible. Give that man an Oscar!

Also Harry Dean Stanton!

i think it's implicit he'd go on insane benders and come back incapacitated for a few days. though it is a good point why people surrounding him are so blase about his 'condition'

Why do people call the roadhouse the bang bang bar. It has and always will be the roadhouse no matter what the sign says.

I love how the show continues to subvert expectations. When Hawk was told the missing thing had something to do with his heritage, I automatically thought it would be something supernatural, but no, it's a logo on on a bathroom stall door.

I knew it... I fcking knew it that it was
the diary pages
missing.

Also was that 'accident' at the same location as the 'I smell something burning' location where Philip Gerard drives past Laura and Leland? It even had an auto repair shop in the same spot.

Edit: Yes it is 100% the same crossing. Theory, Richard and Red will become the new Mike and Bob.

Let's not forget the Buffalo nickel!

Also, if you haven't read it, the Secret History novel has some interesting content about the Nez Perce tribe (who showed up last night with "Nez Perce Manufacturing").
At one time they were custodians of the Owl Cave ring.

I'll have to check that out and I'll have to read more Twin Peaks wikis because there seem to be a lot of small details I'm missing out on.

Was it though? Why would they be hidden in the police bathroom. And also what would even be on them that would be useful to Hawk 25 years after the case was solved?

It'll be really weird if there's no payoff to "The good Dale is in the Lodge and he can't leave."

Edit: Of course the assumption before the new season began was that this information would be key to Cooper being rescued from the Lodge. That's obviously already been taken care of at this point, but it could still come in handy for the FBI to understand Evil Coop. It could also inspire someone else to enter the Lodge in hopes of rescuing Cooper, not knowing that he's already made it out...

Funny thing is we watched the alternate 'put it in your diary' scene last night at the end of The Missing Pieces (the one with the nurse stealing the ring, not with Laura dreaming) directly before watching the episode.

It actually would be an interesting curveball if the nurse was the one who ended up writing it down instead of Laura.

Didn't Laura write something about Cooper and the Black Lodge in her diary in Fire Walk With Me?

The problem with that is she was told to write that down after the pages were already ripped out of her secret diary and after she had already handed off the diary.

So she wrote it somewhere else.

At the bolded: Didn't Gerard have one of his 'episodes' in the bathroom stall? In FWWM he was also near the train, where Leland reveals he has the pages. We know he has to have returned there because he's wearing the ring.

And I always considered the diary being incomplete the point where things became inevitable for Laura. Might also be the reason why Lodge Laura thinks she knows 'Laura', her diary is incomplete, thus so is her lodge persona.

Though I have no idea how it would bring back Cooper.

Might I also add that I am so happy to watch this series as it comes out? I normally wait foe everything to be released, but for Twin Peaks I wanted to experience that feeling that people had with the original series. The wait between episodes is excruciating. But it also stays on the forefront of my mind, having spun so many theories (which I usually am afraid of sharing, because they might be dumb).
