At the bolded: Didn't Gerard have one of his 'episodes' in the bathroom stall? In FWWM he was also near the train, where Leland reveals he has the pages. We know he has to have returned there because he's wearing the ring.

And I always considered the diary being incomplete the point where things became inevitable for Laura. Might also be the reason why Lodge Laura thinks she knows 'Laura', her diary is incomplete, thus so is her lodge persona.

Though I have no idea how it would bring back Cooper.
Yeah I was thinking Mike was the one who put it there.

Just watched the episode. Probably my favorite one so far, but it's probably because of Sharon Van Etten and "FUCK YOU, GENE KELLY, YOU MOTHERFUCKER".

This thread is going way too fast for me haha. I'll try to catch up to your theories and explanations.

From Angelo Badalamenti's Facebook:

Yesterday's show featured Angelo Badalamenti's new composition "Accident/Farewell Theme", a recording unique to Twin Peaks New Series Soundtrack: "Working through technology that digitally connected studios thousands of miles apart, Lynch and Badalamenti were able to collaborate in the same manner they have always collaborated throughout the decade: 'side by side.' Accident/Farewell Theme was recorded before principal photography even began, with Lynch simply describing the scripted scene to Badalamenti. The result is a gorgeous synth suite that showcases the technicolor emotional heartbreak that classic Lynch Badalamenti compositions are famous for."

Anyone got an idea of what the bigger picture regarding electricity could be? From the poles in this episode (which reminded me of FWWM) to Coop going through some sort of outlet in the space basement, it seems to be a recurring thing that I haven't been able to make much sense of yet.

I think the main focus of the pole was actually on the numbers on the pole. If you notice there was no "7" on the pole and coop was rubbing the lucky 7 on the folders.

The pole had a large "6" on it.

I think there is some sort of countdown going on underneath our noses

I think this was my favourite episode so far. A great use of music here, I'm stoked Windswept isn't just a one-off because it's really good. Things are coming together now. I loved seeing Carl again, a lovely performance by Harry Dean Stanton and in what a way did he return, such a sad, beautiful scene. Really good Dougie scenes again too, I'm still loving them guys. Diane! And that fucking ice pick scene, whoo boy.

Only negative is the wait. I need more NOW.

From Angelo Badalamenti's Facebook:

Thanks for sharing this. I loved the new track, it completely made that scene.

There's some similar shots of electric poles in FWWM. So I assume it has more to do with the lodge inhabitants and their preferred method of travel.

The problem with that is she was told to write that down after the pages were already ripped out of her secret diary and after she had already handed off the diary.

So she wrote it somewhere else.
I mean, the Fat Trout Trailer Park is in Twin Peaks now instead of Deer Meadow so I don't think Lynch is sweating continuity details getting in his way.

Yeah I think this was also my favorite episode so far. There wasn't a single scene in there that I didn't like, and almost all of them were very memorable.

It's the "New" Fat Trout Trailer Park to be fair, so it's not like it doesn't acknowledge the location change.

Or it's just a callback to Fire Walk With Me.

- Balthazar Getty was pretty cool in here too, though I dunno what the hell is up with that that frozen coin in the air trick. I wonder if the kid was just tripping balls or what, thats some strong coke if so. also...I guess Shelly really likes fucking with the wrong people
Wow, I didn't even recognize him. Holy shit. Been a long time since I've seen him in anything.

Laura Dern is Diane! YES

Now comes the horrible realization that when Dern said she had a lot of scenes with Kyle, she was actually talking about Mr. C...

Who stashed the diary pages in the toilet? My first thought was Bobby (it might contain evidence of his murder) however that makes no sense because surely he'd just destroy it, not hide it in the station?

Didn't Leland tear those pages out?

The Dougie scenes, while amazing, are really heartbreaking. Kyle's acting is so flawless, and I just feel so bad for Cooper.

Yes and I also feel bad for Jane and Sonny Jim. God, Naomi Watts is so good in this! Like one poster already said, everytime she mentions Sonny Jim by name I feel warm and happy inside.

Yeah, that's why I love them so much. Kyle is doing an incredible job, he has seriously exceeded my expectations and I've always loved him, and even the funny Dougie scenes just break my heart.

Kind of wish they used the original version of Muddy Magnolias American Woman when Janey-E took those casino henchman to task. She's a whole lot of grown ass American woman.

I enjoyed the Dougie stuff a lot more this week compared to last week. I'm not looking forward to when Cooper inevitably awakens and they Janey-E and Sonny Jim are left without a Dougie.

The pin to the Vegas safe was 1609. I rewound it to see if the number had anything to do with the other numbers that have came up but it doesn't seem to be.

The scene where the old man goes to comfort the mom as all the bystanders look on. That shit got me.

I also adore the melancholic tune we're getting with Dougie Coop

The Dougie stuff did show signs of progress this episode - Mike telling him to wake up, the horrific green suit being replaced with his classic black. He's getting there.

And of course, Hawk with (presumably) the diary pages. In Lynch we trust...

I got some Frank Booth vibes from the coin flip guy.

I got them more with Richard in last weeks episode.

I enjoy the dougie stuff a lot, and this episode probably had the best of it. I do think that him changing into his agent suit may mean that he will make the change to agent cooper on the same in show day.

That was a damn fine episode. The little ice-pick hitman is already an iconic character for me. I always suspected that Laura Dern was going to be Diane but I still let out a little gasp when she showed up.

Harry Dean Stanton is the shit, I'm so glad he came back.

Safe to say this episode has the most feels in the most ways thus far. I hope this trend keeps going. Don't die.

So, like, Hawk is gonna see the diary entry that says Coop is in the Lodge, right? But Coop isn't in the Lodge anymore.

So then Coop gets a vision saying, "You have to go back to Twin Peaks and stop Hawk from entering the Black Lodge."

Coop goes back and something snaps him out of it. The Great Northern. The trees. The waterfall. Coffee and cherry pie at the Double R.

I'm still of the opinion that if the season continues as it is, it may be remembered down the line as Lynch's magnum opus. I can see why some in the moment don't like waiting week by week for something slow pace, but I think it truly is an 18-hour long Lynch film and I think some of the best individual scenes Lynch has ever produced are popping up in this series. I mean, we still have 2/3rds to do but it's tapping into like every faucet of Lynch's works in different scenes and I am finding myself engaged by it in a way I'm not used to by television, but it's hard to explain.

I can see why some people won't like it at all or enjoy all of it, but I legitimately think if it continues like this that this might end up being my favorite thing Lynch has ever done. And I think this season may be remembered down the line and analyzed end and back years from now, I honestly think it will be. This might sound pretentious or something, I don't know but I just have that feeling that this is going to grow more in the future than it specifically is right now, it feels like I'm watching something that's going to have one hell of a legacy.

I totally agree with you. So far every single episode has been a real treat, there's action, comedy, horror and mystery and all with great actors, great sound, great music, great locations. It feels like everything Lynch has did in the past finally comes together in a unique way of pure cinema/film.

I doubt they have any inside info, though. They're making the same assumption that many of us are.

Agreed.

And weren't pages found by Hawk yellow, like those small memo pads you can find in every office? Laura's secret diary had white pages.

Being stuck behind a toilet door for a quarter of a century would turn even the whitest pages a bit stained and decayed.

Even more creepy characters? Lynch is going all out this Season with the creepy/dangerous characters for sure.

Terrific episode. And that music from Angelo...bellissima.

First episode that I genuinely didn't enjoy. I think it has to do with the fact that I rewatched the first two seasons last week, and the pacing difference really struck me.

Every scene in Twin Peaks S1 and S2 (up until the murder was solved) felt significant, engaging and entertaining. This is because, even in non-plot relevant moments, the show had built up an immensely charismatic cast that was easy to become invested in, something S3 is largely devoid of.

S3's approach to death really rubs me the wrong way as well. For the vast majority of the original show, only a handful of characters died (Laura, Bernard, Jaques, Maddie, Hank, Leland), and every one of those apart from Bernard felt extremely significant and had real impact on both the overarching plot and the emotional states of the characters. In six episodes of The Return, we have a huge and almost totally insignificant body count. Could it pay off eventually? Sure, but the original show knew how to make every big event significant both in the moment and in the long term.

I think that the saddest possibility for Twin Peaks S3 is that people come to the same conclusion they did looking back on S2: That the show should have died when Leland did. Nothing after that had any impact. The Lodge is a mess, and the supernatural elements were only interesting when they existed on the periphery of a strong main storyline that was largely grounded in reality. S3 has no grounding, and I have a feeling that more and more people are going to drop off as this continues.

You can put me FIRMLY in the camp that dislikes how long the Dougie stuff is taking.

That said, I'm loving the show, Lynch just doesn't give a fuck

Re-watching ep 5 and I'm curious... Has anyone checked the finger prints Agent Preston was looking at to see if both are the same except one being reversed? I assume Mr. C's prints are backwards.

Also, the magic trick scene in ep 6 was terrific.

Even if your cut-off point is ep. 9 of S2, I think the idea that every scene in every episode was significant is being extremely generous to the old seasons.

I think just the ring finger was reversed.
