Twin Peaks Season 3 OT |25 Years Later...It Is Happening Again

I always struck me as funny that Showtime chose to market the new series as "Twin Peaks: The Return" because that would also be the subtitle of a continuation of the best temporary Twin Peaks replacement in last 25+ years:

Remedy appears to have been operating on similar wavelengths. The Alan Wake collector's edition even included a prequel book written in the form of a dossier.

Good call.

Sam Lake hasn't posted any reactions on Twitter yet. Probably still recovering.

Just finished episode 3 and I'm sad to say that I have mixed feelings about this season.

So far everything just seems so damn random that I don't even feel like there's an incentive to try to understand the plot. Like, why analyze what the black and white "our home" place that the Giant mentions might mean when it could really mean anything.

The casino scene of Zombie Cooper playing slots lasted too long. This show might be a chore to rewatch.

There being almost no music is taking away the charm of some of the scenes, like Hawk,
Andy and Lucy talking about the bunnies. Everything is just TOO serious.

The first fifteen minutes were really cool and almost 100 percent Eraserhead, but again it just seems like random surrealist imagery that doesn't move the plot forward. Twin Peaks (hell, even most of his movies) had scenes like this take up a minority of his movies which is what made them so special. Having every scene be some mysterious phenomenon takes away the fun part of a mystery:
Trying to understand what's going on.

My opinion is apparently in the minority judging by this thread. Hopefully episode 4 and a rewatch of all episodes once I've digested these episodes for a few days will change my mind.

It's a mixed reaction because admittedly I'm still entertained and intrigued by what's on screen. But it feels like it's sacrificing the potential the material has for a stronger story. So far no one feels like a character, and instead of rejoicing the return of familiar faces they just feel like cameos.

Fantastical

Part 3 was the low for me, after the very high highs of Part 1 and Part 2. Part 4 felt like it was getting back on track though, and I genuinely feel like everything is moving with purpose and will start tying together pretty soon.

Just finished Parts 1&2.

Wonderful, horrifying, hilarious.

I nearly cried at three points; the opening credits, seeing the Log Lady in the state she was in, and the final scene at the bar. I am so glad we got to see this series come to fruition.

Regarding the box room:
so the "mom" is what gets the two horn balls in NY, right? Since Boop winds up there somehow, I'm guessing both places are connected. Maybe she finally got through the door and ended up there while following his tracks, etc.

Also, what are the chances that we'll find out what happened to the guard? There's been a bit of jumping around time-wise, so I doubt we've seen all there is to see regarding that specific place in time.

The episodes are a bit of a blur, so I spoilered everything just in case so as to not spoil anything that might have happened during 3 or 4.

I hope we do.

Frost is saying on Twitter that it's up to the fans to decide what to call evil Dale Cooper.

Episode 3 questions
So Cooper was trapped in the Black Lodge for 25 years? What did he do all the time, is there something I'm missing? Also, who is the third Cooper guy, and why does he exist? Are there more Coopers?

My guess is the concept of time in the lodge is seamless despite him aging of course.

Yes.
Presumably he sat in the same chair.
Dougie (sp?) a decoy created by the doppelganger(?)
No one knows.

I don't imagine that physical things like that really function the same way in the lodge.

But maybe they do, and he's been eating solid coffee for twenty five years.
Yeah, I'm just goofin', I might be a touch too amused imagining Cooper pooping on the floor of the red room. Or in the state-altering coffee cup.

Episode 4 spoiler:
He seems to have forgotten how peeing works.

I don't know if this is for me. I expected it to be Lynch-esque, that's ok, but the acting is quite bad at times. Lines are often delivered in a very strange way, feel kind of wooden or like they were acting for a children's show. Some of the humor was horrible and fell totally flat for me.

Maybe 4 episodes in a row was a bit much to take in, but for now it's put my expectations in check.

It's not about answers. There's just no centralized storyline so far that hooks me as a viewer. Each character outside of a few has only gotten one or two disjointed scenes that feel like cameos. Each episode feels almost like a different show. And I mean, three episodes is enough to get a feel for the new season. I'm not discarding it as shit, just expressing a bit of concern that it's a little too experimental for its own good, in my opinion.

1. Yes.
2. I'm guessing he just sat there. The lodge is a weird wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey dimension.
3. Booper created Dooper (Dummy Cooper) so that when Cooper tries to leave the lodge, Dooper would be taken back instead of him. I dunno if there are any more oopers around,
but I'm guessing that's it for now.

Does Jacoby buy shovels on amazon and then paint them gold to resell them as groundbreaking ceremony shovels!?? If so fucking LOL. Cuz a 40-something year old Lynch was walking around one day like "where DO they get those golden shovels from...?"

Mr C and Coop are clearly the central storyline.

Even though I think it rolled snake eyes more than I'm happy with in Part 3, if it wasn't taking risks I don't think it could call itself Twin Peaks.

right... you want answers for the seemingly absent storyline and disjointed scenes.
