The wait for episode 5 is going to kill me. I'm running up a fever just thinking about. Let me back in, dammit!

Yeah. I'll probably re-watch the first four episodes this weekend, maybe it'll make it easier.

Question about episode 3:
Do you guys think the sniper waiting for Dougie to come out was related to his supposed debts, or was Bad Cooper somehow aware that the real Cooper would come out of there and wanted to get rid of him immediately?

I wrote this on another site but I figured I post this here since not many people read the book and the information is readily available even online.

It turns out the Secret History book is pretty important for understanding Season 3.
Here's the simplest way I can sum up what's important from the book that ties in with Season 3 (Part 1 and 2 spoilers):
The government has been aware of "aliens" and all the UFO conspiracy stuff was followed closely by the government and later organizations were made to dissuade the public when they got close.

Doug Milford (Older brother from S1/2 that died) headed those operations because of his experience as a young boy seeing a "walking owl" and a white flash near the entrance to the Lodges.

The aliens turned out to be more like "spirits". Lodge contact dates all throughout history, was probably here before humans.

All those operations were classified as "military" though most of the knowledge was sewn among a tight-knit group of government peeps. Oh, also some old religions/cults made by rich people tied to the Illuminati/other secret organizations were pretty on point and probably contacted the Black Lodge.

Nixon set up a bunch of fake weather stations that were budgeted as military defense bases, he let the all the top agents know that the funding/capacity to take on the alien/Lodge projects would be limited, and that they would have to carry on the mission themselves by using these facilities that had contact to the Lodge.

We can assume all the other agents also have access to contact from the Lodges through these bases, probably constructed the box.

Doug Milford got old so he gave his duties to Major Briggs because of his "experience" as a soldier and in Twin Peaks with "aliens"/Lodges. Doug died the next day.

Major Briggs got access to LPA, turns out these bases could receive direct messages from the Lodges. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mbi7rq-TSk8

Part 3 & 4 very, very light spoilers
According to the book, Briggs was going to give Cooper all this info on the night referenced in the show by Bobby. Briggs didn't give it to him because he was "off", this was probably the Black Lodge Cooper.

Briggs went off to the LPA to follow a protocol when "something like this happens". Bobby says his dad died the next day, unsure if he actually died, how he died. etc.

FBI finds this dossier in 07/2016 at an unsolved crime scene. Tammy Preston reviews it and can't do much more until she has clearance to learn more about the Lodge stuff.

Yeah I don't get how Boop would know at that moment that real Dougie would be real Coop. Of course he knew he was going to be called back to the Black Lodge but how would he know at that moment?

What if it's both?

The entire Dougie situation seems... oddly oriented around Dougie. MIKE said he was "manufactured for a purpose" and I sort of wonder if that means more than just his person. Doppelganger Coop could well have orchestrated a situation where "Dougie" would be assassinated as soon as real Cooper returned.

This just makes me think that the thing inside the box was a Skinwalker or another Native American legend even more.
What seems to be aliens or demons seem to actually be spirits, some hostile. I wonder if what Hawk is looking for has to do with that.

Mike told Boop that one of them has to die now, so I guess DoppelCoop knew about it.

I didn't really think just mentioning him being there was a spoiler, he's in the cast list but I edited regardless for the UBER sensitive :p

Nah I'm with ya, bit too strict there when he's confirmed to be in it to begin with and you provided no context for who he played. Now, if we were to say get a surprise appearance by Heather Graham or Michael Ontkean, that'd def warrant one :)

Just finished all of episode one. Wow, that was something. I started over and watched the whole thing (previously I only watched 20 minutes to get a sneak peak) and everything came together.

Something that Lynch nails here is that there is this constant, subtle feeling of forboding and tension that I felt throughout the entire episode. Something that even the first two seasons didn't give me.

Also, I was surprised to see Mathew Lillard. He pulled off an incredible performance. I really felt all of the emotions his character was experiencing during his scenes.

My wife isn't too keen on the show anymore but I think I'll keep watching. I want to see what happens.

As much as I love where this is going so far I do really hope we get some sweeping Badalamenti tracks to accompany key scenes further on. The silence does seem to serve a thematic purpose currently but so much of my fondness for Lynch comes from the haunting scores that accompany his works, and the way that plays on memory further reinforces the impact. I've always dug Lynch's low industrial bass rumbles for the ambient tone-setting, but it'd be a disservice to not mine Badalamenti for all his potential to really put a cherry firmly at the top of this already promising season.

Episode 3 spoilers
I feel like Don S. Davis (Briggs) showing up in the way that he did, saying a line I don't believe he said, kind of opens the door to others showing up too. He wasn't on that massive cast list that was released way back when.

Just a thought.

Yeah I don't get how Boop would know at that moment that real Dougie would be real Coop. Of course he knew he was going to be called back to the Black Lodge but how would he know at that moment?

Part 3:
Mr C knows that he is going to 'go away' for a while the next day. He at the very least knew the *date* that the lodge would try to pull him back, and quite probably knew the exact time: 2:53 PM. The 253 the lodge inhabitants tell our Coop in part 1. If he made Dougie to stop himself getting pulled back into the lodge, he obviously had foreknowledge of this, and it would follow logically that he would want Coop dispatched, but that they'd need to wait until *after* Coop had gone into Dougie, or presumably the trick wouldn't have worked.

Now why he didn't pull over at that time, if he did indeed know the exact time... that I don't have good speculation for. Unless he figured it was a less suspicious way to get caught and presumably taken to the very same prison he was downloading the schematics of using his Microsoft Surface Pro 3 tablet.

For sure, especially considering
Davis
has been dead for almost a decade.

Rewatching Ep 1/2.

"You're going back in tomorrow. And i'll be with BOB again" - "Phillip Jeffries"

So does this allude to BOB still being in Mr C. Blooper or not?

Yeah what's the deal with her? Her acting is distractingly bad.

She's a singer that has been working and been a friend of Lynch for a while.
Not gonna lie, when I heard of Tamara the young FBI agent, this wasn't what I had in mind. I'll wait to see the full picture I guess.

I get the feeling something is up with her.

Her acting is super unnatural. She sashays around juuuuust obviously enough to make it feel intentional. Likewise, her goofy facial expressions make her seem distractingly arch. The camera lingers on her like no other character - notice how the camera focuses on her body more than Tracy in her sex scene, Darya, or even the nude escort Dougie was with - all of them were shot very flatly and matter-of-fact, but Tammy is treated to lots of camera focus on her hips when she walks, etc etc etc. Gordon even has his defense planned when Denise calls him out on choosing Tammy.

Gordon asked her to wear a wire, so I'm assuming there's something going on we just haven't seen yet. Also, given how much this series draws from The Secret History of Twin Peaks, she would seem to have at least some cursory knowledge of Lodge/paranormal activity.

Yeah I was fairly surprised by that casting choice, figured Lynch would stick Bell in the Bang Bang Bar as the new Julee Cruise stand-in. Was initially thinking Amy Shiels or Amanda Seyfried would be playing
Preston
. So far most of the casting has thrown me for a loop though so clearly all bets are off :p

Someone said she acts like she's in a porn parody. Can't tell me if garbo acting or that's the way Lynch wants her to come off.

I hope so.
The scene with Denise better be more than lamp shading. I expect better of Lynch.

I was laughing during most of that casino scene. From Cooper stopping the revolving door and then getting a jackpot on a bunch of different machines.

Yeah, same but I like being dragged along a bit, I think scenes run too long sometimes but I like the slow burn and there's been great moments and some seriously hilarious shit. I think they're deliberately teasing the familiar town atmosphere as
part of the story is happening away from it
.

I think the next few episodes will get into that particular groove especially since
Cooper has resurfaced before the FBI and Hawk is digging into his past
which tells me we're gonna be getting some hefty info dumps or at least of the Lynchfrost variety.

But holding off to
let us REALLY return to Twin Peaks
is gonna pay the fuck off.

I really hope we'll get a Bowie scene or two ;)

Man I don't even recall him being in it and I just watched it. Maybe just didn't recognize.

Ok, from the rewatch and reading random wikipedia stuff earlier, Amanda Seyfried is playing
Shelly's daughter Becky (presumably Bobby is the father).

Of course lol Wikipedia but we'll see.

We're only 4 hours into an 18 hour Lynch film. I wouldn't worry about it.

I originally thought she was a doppelganger of the girl in episode is one but the actresses are different so I'm guessing she's possessed or an alien.

I was laughing during most of that casino scene. From Cooper stopping the revolving door and then getting a jackpot on a bunch of different machines.

I get that it was intentional slapstick, and it went over well with most of the people at our viewing party, but I guess I really struggle seeing Cooper in that state of mind. I want him to snap out of it so badly, which is probably half of the point. But then I hate those video effects popping up above all the slot machines.
Again, I know it's 100% an intentional choice from David, but it's jarring for me. I loved the evolved arm in part 1. I loved the effect of Coop tumbling through the void (it really reminded me of the Max Payne cut scenes actually). I loved the floor gag in the lodge. I loved Laura taking off her face. I loved all the stuff with the box.

But the effects in part 3 are, I think, what gave me the most trouble with it.

The first part in the purple space, was good, but once they climbed that ladder I really started struggling.

HELLOOOOOOO

I was kinda hoping Naomi Watts would end up being some kind of crossover from Mulholland Drive and reprising her role again
