Was this not happening before? Because that blurb didn't actually refute anything she said it seemed to mostly clarify it with context.

Thats definitely a useful tool to keep around topics like that
Not really. Fact checking only took place if it went against certain narratives.

Really now...is he going to decide all future ban appeals through a poll? Otherwise, he's establishing a double standard.
Ideally there won't be any more high profile twitter bans after this. They can also ban something someone has said without banning a person altogether. But no matter what Musk and his version of Twitter ultimately decides to censor, for a self-proclaimed free speech absolutist, he's probably going to look at least somewhat like a hypocrite.

I'm not really sure letting him back on was the best idea, he's been on a whole other level of off his rocker lately, and he's always been off his rocker, but with that said it is refreshing for someone to not be at the whims of advertisers and giving no fucks. The amount of cowardly decisions in corporate America that are made because advertisers pulling out as a means of performative virtue signaling is gross. I'd rather Twitter crash and burn kissing no one's boots than it staying around under someone's heel.

We've reached peek consooomer. Acting smug and elitist about advertisers, don't worry I'm sure Funko and Marvel will still advertise.
Funkos are the dumbest "collectable" since beanie babies and I am pretty sure Disney is still advertising. I think I saw an ad of theirs earlier.

I mean, it's funny to see people both getting super happy and super mad about this, but even Trump has bigger issues to deal with right now than whether he's on Twitter or not.
After years away he'd be coming back to a different twitter userbase at a fragile time for all involved.

There doesn't seem to be that many people angry about it. It was expected, in general there seems to be more caution, distancing with not wanting to be associated.

HAHA they finally figured it out.

Mastodon was doomed from the onset. The fact that you have to select servers or whatever means segregated communities, which makes it a nonstarter because everyone being in the same shared space must be the default if it’s supposed to be a replacement for Twitter.

I made an account and right from the getgo, you can tell that Mastodon is the product of nerds.

The fuck is this. This is what I see on the front page. Twitter gives you various Tweets from folks until it figures out what you want to see after you follow people or your clicking habits. Mastodon gives you nothing. This is not a viable replacement.

The addiction to social media is scary indeed.

Charge everyone $8 per message to post whatever they want on all social media sites. Any sharing of posts on other sites is an additional $8 per message. The money is given to charity and helping your local city.

I'm pretty sure that's from months ago when Trump was asked about Elon buying Twitter
Yeah I figured. I remembered him saying something like that, but I didn't want to look it up. Last thing I want youtube to be recommending me.

But there will be. These people can’t handle criticism. It won’t be long until he bans those he doesn’t agree with.

He already does. He has given a hard no to Alex Jones being unbanned.

I guess we'll see if you're right. He did bring back "Kathie Griffin" or however he spelled her name, though, and her banning went a fair bit beyond criticism into account impersonation.

Ironically the people who would complain the loudest if Alex Jones was brought back won't ever give musk credit for this decision, and the people who would want him to return won't criticize Musk very much about it. I'm betting much of this will come down to "well, it's better than it was before" for a lot of people.

Twitter was never the "elite" though. We know this, and its strange these same folks will tell you how it's been bleeding money for years. The advertisers are and always were the actual load bearers. The corporations, monetizing the large user base.

If twitter falls, in these circumstances, while backed by the most well known and public billionaire, it would just send a message to everyone else that advertisers are to be obeyed, if you want your company to continue to exist. Tberes a lot of social media sites but there aren't a lot of Elon Musks and Elon musk doesn't generally fail like that prior to this.

Twitter could end up being the dude in the story who is super powerful and exists to be killed by the villain, to display how much of a threat they are.

I don't live in US and i don't use twitter, but why is trump coming back such a big deal? I mean if you dont like the guy you just dont follow him, right?

He's a divisive person, politics or not. That's why. He's also under legal investigation here so there's that too.

Fact that he's back in such an arbitrary, Roman coliseum way, also add to the drama. Plus Musk likes to stir shit up cause he's a troll so here we are - all watching the next move.

Servers can and do federate, which means they act as if the users were in one server, unless the server you are on breaks federation or is refused federation.

Due to the high and sudden load of gaining an average of 14.000 users/hour some servers timelines are experiencing disruption.

Mastodon does not recommend you things because it does not gather data about you.

So basically...

Not necessarily. It looks like the original usage was negative, in the time of Charlemagne, but has been positive for the past 700 years. From wiki

The 1709 tract's use of the Latin phrase was consistent with earlier usage of vox populi, vox Dei in English political history since at least as early as 1327 when the Archbishop of Canterbury Walter Reynolds brought charges against King Edward II in a sermon "Vox populi, vox Dei".[3] From Reynolds onwards English political use of the phrase was favorable, not referencing the original context of the usage by Alcuin (739) who in a letter advised the emperor Charlemagne to resist such a dangerous democratic idea on the grounds that "the riotousness of the crowd is always very close to madness".[4]

The modern use of the phrase isn't really related to this quote however. This is just its earliest known use, from the 13th century onwards the term was used in its current popular meaning, also commonly used by modern journalists when interviewing normal citizens.

This woman really manages to demonstrates twitter at its worst. Nitpicking and hottakes that seek to invalidate people they don't like and interpretate things at their own convenience 🤷‍♀️

Now, it'd be funny if someone added context to this twitt

Ofcourse they will reinstate him for the simple fact that trump made twitter massive with the election. Dude is a gold mine if he's going to run again for musk and trump would want all the media he possible can. No clue if he reruns tho.
Already announced he’s running again the other day

I recommend uninstalling all news apps

This is the same guy that fired an employer because he said musk was wrong on social media and then brought the receipts proving that musk was wrong.
It’s not a reach to say he will ban people he doesn’t like and disagree with.
