My guess is Elon hands this hot potato to some stooge we've never heard of then nopes our if the whole thing. Then either it dies shortly after and he uses new guy as a scapegoat or it stabilizes and he takes credit for saving it.

Its what I would do in his shoes.

I love Kanye music bur hes someone who needs to have social media taken away from him, not because of his own views necessarily(though they lately are pretty bad) but because it's detrimental to his own mental state lol

Yeah he needs to step away and get some help. The man is clearly not right and apparently has no good people around him to tell him so.

Interrupting the thread-AIDS epidemic with what I think is honestly hilarious regardless of your politics.

I am an eternal manchild.

I mean, I gotta respect the whole give no fucks thing from a comedic standpoint. It’s funny as hell. He really is just lighting that $44B on fire so he can troll, fuckin more power to him

I think it's pretty cringe, but I can't deny there is a petty part of me that loves it because I know Trump is somewhere just positively shitting his little britches over it lol

It'll be interesting to see how long Trump holds out. No doubt he's sitting at home seething to troll back at Musk, but he doesn't want to tweet as a sign of defeat.

TBH I think between Trump being reinstated, Green Ranger dying, a tragic LGBTQ+ mass shooting, and Iger coming back to Disney and The World Cup within the last 24 hours Twitter is still proving itself to be indispensable for breaking news. If Musk can just shut the fuck up for like a week it could all just go back to normal. I’d be very interested to see what happens to many news sites referral traffic without Twitter. I mean I found out about Iger on Twitter faster than some of my former colleagues at Disney.

There seems to be an exodus to Hive going on for now.

And Mastadon and Parler and Truth I just don’t think any of them are going to be quite as good as Twitter still is at redirecting significant amounts of traffic to CNN.com NYTimes and other mainstream media sites when there’s actual breaking news. Reddit is probably the second best at breaking news but Twitter is probably the only thing that’s kept the MSM alive: unless they come up with an alternative to redirect all that traffic it’s going to hit them on ad $ not spent on Twitter but freely sent to their own websites. That’s probably why CBS came back so quickly: after turning off Twitter postings for 24 hours they may have realized their referral traffic was virtually dead.

Yep, all of them are the Bing, Yahoo, and DuckDuckGo equivalents. At the end of the day, I’m using Google to search, and Twitter to keep up on what’s happening in realtime. Twitter is full of trash, but like reddit, it’s very easy to sort wheat from chaff.

Yeah one of my coworkers mentioned it in our FF group chat.

Looks like it could be neat. Much better layout than Mastodon. Saved myself an account just in case.

Which despite my dislike of Musks petty behavior of late I’m rooting for it to succeed it’s literally the internet townsquare that should remain as unfucked with structurally as humanly possible. He just needs to shut his mouth and go away for a while and then Twitter can kind of heal itself.

Imitators almost never succeed like the corporate copycats you mentioned unless they have compelling content not found elsewhere well Yahoo was the OG but they got too bloated and Google was a better product. Google even hasn’t been able to top the utilitarian nature of search really it’s the one thing it does incredibly well and steadily makes it money not as sexy as Stadia or Android but search just works as reliably as running water and there’s no compelling reason to switch.

Out of all websites on PC or mobile, I think the only key embedded posts Ive seen are either tweets or someone pastes in Reddit or Tik Tok links.

I dont know how Mastodon, Parler and Truth work, but I have never seen any posts from them publicly. I dont know what Hive is or if it's similar. If the point of them is secret controlled sub sections where only approved users can see them like it's their own universe of forum topics, none of them will ever come close to being big like Twitter.

They can be embedded.

Did you just google "advertisers leaving twitter" or actually read them? None of these articles provide any numbers, or specific reasons as as why these advertisers are pausing their campaigns. Some advertisers leaving doesn't mean that Twitter ad revenue is going down, as other advertisers have increased their expenditures or new advertisers have joined.

Also it's completely normal for brands to pause campaigns during M&A. Doesn't mean that they are boycotting Musk.

The Eli Lilly Twitter drama lead to them admitting that insulin prices are too high and need to be lowered.

This article is about some firm recommending to pull ads, not that ads are being pulled.

These are a handful of medium sized advertisers, many of which paused their ads on Nov. 4, so before the article that I've posted.

This article isn't even about advertisers boycotting twitter.
You expected him to actually verify the information he's sharing that's supposed to prove his argument? 🤣

So... as you fine gentleman sign up for these bullshit fake Twitters... consider I, (and perhaps you), made a Resetera account during 'the troubles'. It was not a good time, and it did not work out. AMA!

The idea that society must be "protected" against bad-takes as a matter of existential importance seems to have a strangle-hold on people's thinking, despite the fact that it is patently untrue.

What's worse is that a lot of people seem willing to burn all essential freedoms and civil liberties on the altar of this fallacy!

HAHA they finally figured it out.

Twitter and whomever could get a subpoena can see everything about you already though. The advantage of something like Mastodon is that users can choose their home community and maintain a degree of control over their data.

Musk, from the quality of his own posts, appears to want a cesspool on Twitter and people are trying to claw their way out like avoiding a zombie plague but there's nowhere to go. If people continue to feel threatened the desire to flee won't stop, but it will get worse. It's disheartening, idealistically, to see an opportunity like this appearing go by unexploited in a capitalist society.

Maybe by now there's something being developed as there's a better idea of the situation and needs. If so, it would be encouraging to see some guerrilla marketing, maybe on Twitter. I like the thought of it having a name that advances the common Western civil ideals upon which a town square has a future and civilization progresses. Directed towards securely giving the most freedom to talk/listen on the platform to the most people as possible in striving towards a harmony of common virtues and ethics in civil communication.

With the possibility of Twitter still going down/under, a possible attractive feature to help with migration for a new service is one that archives the old tweets of migrating 1.0 Blue Checks and links them to their new account.
