From my experience twitter works well in the browser, that's how I use it even on my phone, I intentionally don't want to install the app. So they do have leverage even if there are threats to remove from the app store.

But even from Apple's perspective do they want to pick a fight and deal with a self-inflicted headache? What would they even gain from removing it from the app store? The calls to remove it are surprisingly small. All it would do is appease some minority of ideological motivated people in the executive level.

It's a massive problem for Twitter if the iOS app is removed..

We have no clue if that will happen though... Twitter absolutely HAS TO prove it's moderation is good to stay alive because of European regulators, and potentially US regulators, not to mention iOS/google app store. Being available on the web doesn't mean they won't lose a lot of users and revenue, that's just a fact though. There's a reason everyone and their mother, whether they have a web site or not, is willing to deploy an app to iOS/Google app stores and give up that 30% cut... because if they weren't on that app store, their reach/revenue goes down.

Chances are Musk will actually take action to align Twitter w/ regulators and app store policies... and chances are the app won't get removed, at least not permanently.

He's absolutely putting Twitter at serious risk for temporary actions, injunctions, fines, app store removals, etc. though. But I have serious doubts he'll actually take a stand against Apple when it comes down to it.

Oh the horror!
Stop playing dumb. You know what I mean. I literally just explained how I feel about Apple. They can get fucked.

But his very public attacks on them are by definition dumb. Both for the precedent it sets for other advertisers looking at him coming undone in such a public way towards Apple as well as putting the survival of Twitter as a whole at risk since it needs the Apple app store to exist in the first place. He needs advertisers and yet publicly attacks an advertiser. He needs the Apple App store and now he is publicly attacking them as well. And this is AFTER all the other cases of public ridicule and trolling from the past month. That doesn't exactly inspire confidence.

Once again. That is dumb no matter how you slice it.

I'm someone who has both criticized and defended Musk in this thread, and I think going to War with Apple is just about the stupidest thing he could do right now.

I also find it kind of hilarious that he referred to the 30% as a "secret."
30%? More like a 100% avoidable self inflicted wound #amiright?

Sure, there is no potent organized force behind it 🤷‍♂️
Can any of yo imagine working at a company so amped up on woke politics, someone at the company ordered tshirts? So many in fact, they even got a room full of extras.

Rididculous. Funny, but still ridiculous.

And some of you anti-Muskers and Twitter employee supporters really think the company employee base is neutral.

Musk hasn't given me money. Hey Elon, do you Hate Americans?

I can't believe I'm actually starting to feel a little embarrassed and sorry for him at this point. So cringey and sweaty.

Re. his "gun": It will always be the Diamondback from Team Fortress 2 to me. It looks better rendered in TF2 anyways.

From last week (no pun intended), but the first eight-or-so minutes is Oliver goofing on Musk and Twitter:

You call Musk "cringey" and embarrassing while unironically posting a John Oliver video.

Downsides and upsides to an Apple Twitter clone. Migration of official accounts might go well with inherent brand trust.

This is partly why Musk/Twitter banned the security expert Chad Loder for disclosing it. Twitter was already operating under a FTC consent decree for mishandling user data. This was from before Musk purchased the company (Edit, clarification: the consent decree was from before, this may be a new leak if true).

If Musk truly wanted for this to be something real and not just another Troll job, he would have had an Independent firm looking into this issue within Twitter. Gather all of the relevant information, analyze and give a report.
Or he can just release the details with all names unredacted and those in the government who were involved can answer to congress

This may explain why Musk is flipping out so much.

First, I don't understand why he is sharing any of this with us. This sounds like an Elon Musk problem.

Second, Musk is discovering the limits of his manufactured consent. He can exert his will upon his own platform and sell his lies to his supporters, but Apple is a brick wall he's going to crash against.

Finally, he shouldn't be sharing this information publicly if he wants to build trust back up with advertisers who paused spending or already abandoned the platform.

Anything like that, would still require an independent audit. Congress is not going to take Musk's word that it is everything.

edit: Actually, considering that the House has passed hands, I may need to retract that previous statement.

If he publishes internal communications and e-mails, I would think that should be enough to lead to a situation where eventually someone will have to confirm or deny them under oath, especially if any government officials were involved in any way.

Also, I'm not sure that there is such a thing as an "independent" audit anymore. The world is just too polarized.

Trust me, independent audits are still quiet a thing now. Having worked with various external audit firms over the years(IAM related), I can tell you they take their work extremely seriously and don't screw around.

$50M in revenue per quarter?
That probably doesn't even keep the lights on.
Probably not, but they are the #1 advertiser, a massive name on their own, and have began pulling their ads. That's going to make other advertisers look twice at the situation and whether the investment is worth it when they could just direct that advertising budgets to other places

Oh and of course Musk spending his whole day today publicly attacking what was his former #1 advertiser probably doesn't inspire much confidence either.
