From Comingsoon.net http://www.comingsoon.net/news/topnews.php?id=9301

"Star Wars" creator/writer/director George Lucas made his guest appearance at "Celebration III" this morning at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis and he talked about the franchise. About 9,000 fans had been lined up since midnight for a chance to see Lucas talk.

The event was hosted by actor Jay Laga'aia, who played Captain Typho in "Attack of the Clones" and "Revenge of the Sith," though Lucas funnily made a mistake saying he thought Laga'aia played a Clone Trooper.

Lucas confirmed that they are working on two TV series. One will be a 3-D computer animated series and the other is a live action series. The live action series will star some of the characters featured in the movies, though not the main characters. Lucas will kick-off the series himself. They are planning on writing the entire series and then shoot the series all at once. He mentioned Lucasfilm is aiming for a production start in about a year.

Sorry if old. Think it's new though :D

These are gonna suck.

They should just let the Samurai Jack people make a full-length animated Star Wars series.

I still think Hamil will guest star at some point in the live action one. Maybe it'll be about Yavin recruits/padawans or something.

I think both will be awesome.

oops how did I miss this off?

Also, George Lucas said that the "Star Tours" thrill ride at Disney-MGM Studios will be getting an overhaul soon. And he confirmed they are working on bringing the early 90's TV series The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles to DVD as well.

new ride and Young Indy on DVD!

No longer boycotting the Wolfenstein franchise
I'm more excited about getting the Young Indiana Jones series on DVD than any of this other news. Revamped Star Tours could be cool too.

I'm just too wary of both the CGI and live action shows being cheap and lame. We'll see. I need to hear something solid about the concepts.

So thats why Jimmy Smits is in the new movies

Agreed. I have yet to see a good "3D computer-animated series", and live action will most likely be cheesy and/or plain dull. I suppose it also depends on what it's going to be about. Heh, when I first heard the rumours, I told my mate that it might as well be some sort of "the young Han Solo chronicles" or something like that. Hmm :/

Only because I knew someone who worked on it.

New Star Tours!! Sweet! They were supposed to revamp it for Episode I and make it about pod racing. That got canned somewhere along the line. Hopefully the new one will not be about pod racing and will still be about something wicked awesome.

At least they're not bring back the Ewoks cartoon - from what I gather, that was something like Care Bears in the Star Wars universe.

I'm curious as to the context of GL mistaking Jay Laga'aia for a clonetrooper.

For one, surely he must know his actors, especially Tem Morrison (Jango), who played a major character in AotC. Perhaps he was thinking of the 20's clonetrooper.

Secondly, as I understand they never even made a clonetrooper suit -it was all cgi (atleast in AotC).

Jay is in RotS? cool. He's miles better than Panaka. Panaka was an ook actor, but his character was like a pansy.

I saw the Visual Dictionary for RotS the other day, and had a flip through. They ahve some polynesisn clonetroopers in tehre...adn they looked cgi-ish...but it was so obvious it looked like some CGI out of Doom3 or something. Some of the screens looked very 'development' also. Hope in motion, or on the big screen they are more complete.

I saw a Star Wars Ep. 3 commercial today while watching the original Star Wars on TV. I must say I was impressed, not much of a SW fan, but what I saw looked pretty awesome. I know Lucas will fuck it all up with too much CG or bad directing. Ah well.

Ooops, I thought this was a thread about Star Wars adverts. My thoughts still stand :p

Just let the folks behind the Clone Wars animated shorts do a bunch of original trilogy animated episodes, maybe even based around the time of Shadows of the Empire, and some Expanded Universe stuff and I'll watch it.

the hell? Are you unfamiliar with the work of Mainframe?

Sorta.

I think I saw a couple of Beast Wars episodes a few years ago. I suppose they were alright, but they started playing it here on an ungodly hour on sunday morning, and since I was about 19 at the time, I had other things to do than watch cartoons. Like, sleep.

I saw some Heavy Gear episodes too. They sucked. Hard.
Never saw Reboot or any other Mainframe stuff.

I'm not just talking about this on a technical level, also directing and storywriting. Hey, isn't TPM really nice to look at too?

Good part is it's more like a miniseries and can be focused and without filler episodes... but on the downside it's not the type of show that could end up decent and entertain us for the better part of the next decade. I guess if it's actually worthwhile, though, there will be future projects.

:lol you make it sound like its an achievement, that show was shit!

Lucas is a hack, I really thought he'd be done and dusted with Star Wars after a high climatic end to the prequel trilogy, but no, he can't walk away.

I thought we'd be instore for some more awesome cartoons but this just screams cheesy series like Baywatch or that one with Hulk Hogan and that boat.

Then this will spawn a series of crappy actors starring in high budget Hollywood films about recieving an SMS message or someones going to die; because these guys were in the Star Wars TV show!

So not only are we gunna have some crappy show that feasts off of the scraps of the Star Wars storyline, we're gunna have some CGI that will probably involve bullet time and stuff and the characters lips don't sync with what they're saying.

'Ewoks! We need back-up!

Can't George leave this alone?

I don't know why people are so up in arms. The real fans are crying out for the saga to continue in some form like this.

And those worried about Lucas' involvement, it only says he'll kick it off. I've got a very strong feeling this is a conduit to give his famous friends the reigns of a franchise he didn't wanna give them in movies. Even if it's not, it's still gonna be better than half the shit on TV these days.

How on earth did Mortal Kombat come up? Mortal Kombat = Star Wars?!?
And as for whoever said the action will probably be cheesy in the CG series... I've got a feeling that'll be the best part of the CG series. I'd say it'd be in other areas, if any, where its going to be lacking.

I agree with the above poster. I'd like one of three scenarios:
new jedi order era padawans, luke on Yavin?...
pre-prequel stories
the missing 20 years between RotS and ANH. The rise of the rebellion.

The live-action series is now confirmed by several Celebration reports to take place between Episode III and IV.

Why do you care so much? If you're so convinced it's going to suck, don't fucking watch it. It's not worth getting yourself so worked up over! :lol

Seriously, if GL wants to make a Star Wars show, what do you care? There have been FIVE Star Trek series and TEN movies. Now THAT is milking a franchise.

Probably because he wants to watch a star wars tv show, but he also wants it to be good. Quite the dilemma if George is involved.

Beast Wars was really good.

But ReBoot ROCKED. Seriously. ReBoot is one of the greatest animated shows of all time, CGI or not.

No offence intended or anything. I'll word it this way: lots of really big Star Wars fans will want the saga to continue in some form, and this will be good news to many of them.

People are well within rights to complain if they don't like something. But honestly.... So what if people who call George a hack, only to turn up and see his movies anyway, will still be calling him a hack? Anyone who seriously cares enough to paraphrase "George Lucas raped my childhood" needs to get a life IMO. Admittedly this is coming from someone who doesn't have a particularly impressive life himself, I just think the really big losers in life are the ones who commit themselves to constant moaning and negativity. If new Star Wars isn't your thing, why not try voting with your wallet and go be enthusiastic about something else?

OK I will watch it and probably like it, but do we need it so soon?

We all know that George likes to defy the saying 'if it isn't broken, don't fix it' but this just takes it to the next level. Its like he's pimped the greatness of the original Star Wars and changed it to how he wants it to be percieved today, sat back, then thought 'fuck it, I didn't like that, ill change it again'.

I'm not a hardcore fan of Star Wars but I do enjoy the series. I thought one of the good things about the originals was you had the freedom to envision how certain events leading to the original plot line happened.

We know hardly anything about it to be fair and it could be another 5 years before we see anything regarding the TV series', I was sorta hoping GL would prove he can produce something great without it having lightsabre's in (although I wouldn't be against it :p).

I don't know how you got that idea. I meant that the show was so forgettable and obscure that I wouldn't remember it otherwise. Also, the guy was only like 18 at the time, had no professional experience, and went on to work at Digital Domain, among other places.
