UBISOFT is dying - market shares collapse by 85% from 2021 to 2025

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown was pretty good, and I'm looking forward to what a properly resourced Sands of Time remake will look like -- but with that scheduled for 2026, who knows if they'll even get that far.

Basically, I like Prince of Persia still and hope someone competent picks up the IP (maybe even just hire the whole Lost Crown team to keep that going).

No. Just the really bad companies, of which their modus operandi is to exploit gamers.
Ubisoft is the kind of company that went from making top charting games, highly acclaimed by gamers and critics, to make shovelware, intended to exploit their consumer base.
A company that no longer makes good products for it's consumer base, it's not a company worth saving.

For shame. I feel like the whole planet tried to warn them to not go in this direction.. There are no excuses, no case of bad luck.

With that said. I'm no subscriber of the foolish scadenfreude some people here display. Don't forget, Ubisoft used to be among everyone's favorite developers back in the days, they made quite a few iconic games. So there shouldn't be any joy over this, but more like sadness over how badly the company has been run the last few years.

Its not and it wont. The new AC will do well sales-wise despite the backlash.
Will it? We've had lots of surprising failures in recent years. The attitude towards the stuff Ubi is doing with it is not as popular as it once was. And AC Shadows needs to do a lot better than "well", it basically needs to save the company at this point.

Lets put them altogether, as if they are the same, and then ask why.
Very stupid generalization. No one wants FromSoftware or Capcom to go out of business. But some companies and their bad business approachs would make no difference in the game industry and the developers who are actually good gonna land on their feet and find new jobs.

This is a misunderstanding of how things work, anyway.
Assassin's Creed doesn't need to just sell "fine". It needs to sell in line with its budget, with the massive popularity of the previous entries in the series AND with the expectations of growth necessary for their stock to rise in value once again.
Sure, but shitty valhalla sold more than any other ac ever made and people are asking for an ac japan since forever, i think it's gonna do more than fine, maybe not enough to single handedly save the company bit it's gonna a nice boost to the morale.

Even with all the shit they make, i don't want ubisoft out of business for good.

Agreed. I want them to correct themselves, and get back on track, not go out of business. While I understand people haven't been thrilled with their latest releases, and some things they've said, cheering for them to go down isn't the right call.

I don't see Shadows doing megaton sales, especially with the other releases surrounding it

Will be very interesting to see what happens to them then if they dont get the numbers they want. Too much good will has dissolved into the ether.

Time to buy shares ?
That's a bet that will pay well if they manage to climb back to success.
A bit less if they actually end up bankrupting entirely.

For better or worse Shadow is going to give them a temporary injection of cash. The question is if it will be a smashing hit or if it will under-perform compared to the rest of the series.
The second and even more important question is if they have ANYTHING lined up after that or it will be a couple of years of complete void after AC Shadow.

I think the response is for companies to provide what the consumer wants.

I have no loyalty to Ubisoft, like they have none to me.

It’s a shame that the storied company who made Rayman and Prince of Persia may go out of business. But they wanted to spend their money on Skull & Bones and their upcoming Assassin's Creed game and stuck their fingers in their ears when people questioned their direction.

This is a result of their own bad decision making.

There’s always other companies to fill the void and deliver the games that people want.

I agree, it's bizarre. AC: Mirage is a well-recieved single-player, open-world game with great graphics, and has an RRP of £44.99 (currently £17.99 on PSN Store).

Gamers: "We hate all this live service games! We hate linear games! Games are too expensive! Current-gen games should look better! Game developers are unfairly losing their jobs!"

Also gamers: "The company behind Assassin's Creed Mirage needs to go bust and all the developers fired."

I don't know if these people are idiots, trolls or children, but their comments make for depressing reading.

Why be sad, they got what they deserved. As far as I'm concerned, any company that sells armor, resources, and XP buff cheats in a single player games deserves that fate.
..... I was being sarcastic.
It's like complaining about mid movies. Not every movie needs to be the quality of The Third Man. Sometimes you want to watch a Con Air or Under Siege.
If I pay 120 euros for the Ultimate Edition, I shouldn't expect a 7/10 game.

Makers of their own demise.

There was a time when a Ubisoft game had the same exictment as a Rockstar game.

Unfortunatly years of bloated repetative crap from Assassins Creed, Far Cry, Ghost Recon, WatchDogs etc and chasing trends with their shit hero shooter has left Ubisoft in their current posititon.

Company needs to be downsized, focus on deleviering quality with their IPs and not quantity.

I am Become Bilbo Baggins
Wasted too much money and talent chasing trends and trying to make "AAAA" games.

It's a shame because this means a lot of people are probably going to lose their jobs because of the incompetence of the higher management.

This isn't something to celebrate.

They have a lot of staff and resources and still failed to make games which appeal to the masses.
This is pure incompetence and they can only fault themselves.

Yeah. but they are getting one with a strong "NO, not like this!" kind of vibe.
A textbook monkey paw wish.
Which remains to be seen how much will matter outside of certain internet circles, but still...
Yeah it's always hard to tell if the internet bubble narrative is also shared by the normies.

They made a huge mistake releasing the game in such an hot month like february, they should have gone with jan or march to maximize profit, many people like me are not gonna buy a huge open world when 2 weeks later you have freakin mh wilds :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

I like Ubisoft and have enjoyed tons of their games in the past so I'not sure I will join the excitement jerk circle around here.
I share your sentiment. They made some of my favorite games of all time. Sadly, they are not the same company today that made those classics. I hope they can course correct and remember they are an entertainment company and start releasing awesome games again.

They already dead, and its all their own doing.

The good part is, clearly Tencent will do much better with the IPs, so in the end, we will win.

The first Tencent Far Cry or Assassins Creed (or Splinter Cell) will be amazing.
What if Nintendo or Capcom have the Rayman IP.

Konami the IP of Splinter cell and Tom Clancy

And Namco Bandai the Assassins Creed IP?

90% of the time is agree with you on this, but these are the same guys who go extremely predatory with their monetization on paid products, refuse to listen to feedback, say stupid shit like we "need to get used to not owning our games", triple down on DEI, delusionally think they are making quadruple A games, and there are other things I can mention like their poor open world design and more.

The company is beyond lost and IMHO they are not good for the industry itself. The IP's deserve to go to other companies who actually give a shit.

Dont really care about the general consensous. I like Ubisoft, i like their games, i feel they make some of the best gaming worlds and open worlds in gaming.
Now people have 'hated'' them for years now, but for whatever reason that hate has incresaed considerably the last 2 or 3 years, and thats showing in this report.

For me it would suck big time and they went under and we lost their games. Not many studios make such big games, big games that are crammed full of content. You really do feel that you get 'bang for your buck' with their games.
I genuinely dont understand why the hatred for them is as strong as it is.

I also want to add that I still think it was a big missed opportunity to not have some sort of single-player campaign for Rainbow Six Siege.
