Ubisoft issues totally convincing response to Assassin's Creed Unity's resolution

with seeing that phil spencer tweet I just cancelled my pre-order. I really don't care if it has any effect on sales but seeing that pushed me over the edge. Then the fact that they sit there and lie to us and say it was a mistake to say that and then say "I'm sorry" GTFO. Where are the game journalists? O wait NEOGAF has the best journalists in the industry.

EDIT : NEOGAF has the ONLY game journalists in the industry. We are not afraid to speak the truth because we won't get coverage of a game or advanced copies of games.

Thing is, thats way too particular to have been said by accident. You don't go out of your way to emphasize a certain point 'by acciden'. Nothing he originally said, can mean anything but what he said.

Like I said, I don't buy any of it. It's just a hypothetical. I still think the only way to remedy the situation is to show that there actually is no parity even if frame rate and resolution are the same, but we know that is extordinarily unlikely to be true

It is to me. If there was no internet and people just played their games, shit like pixel wars would be almost non existent.

That fact that you call it pixel wars shows you actually have no clue what this whole discussion has been about from the beginning. Ok, we know you don't care but, did we really need to know? If this doesn't affect you why did you feel you needed to let us know?

No because that would most likely mean that the games wouldn't have the option of an increased resolution on pc. Engines aren't that simple.

i meant native res for consoles. of course that is scaleable. what i meant was their engine has always targeted 900p on consoles. ac4 was patched but it was 900p at launch. watchdogs as well. now this.

LOL at the Phil Spencer's retweet, pretty much shameless.
Seems like his way to go is buying things he can't obtain otherwise.

So Far Cry 4 is 1080p. Is that using a different engine or something?

Yet you feel compelled to boast about your supposed superiority in an equally trivial manner.

You are drawing conclusions on my proclaiming "superiority". I love this forum for the news it provides, but lately it's a contest of who can be outraged the most. Or all those complaining just filling pages of threads with them high giving each other.

Already made my post in the other topic:

Wooooow epic bullshit.

No you fucking didn't. Who do you think you're fooling? Who the hell searches for words to describe an event happening and then falls on "We decided to lock them at the same specs to avoid all the debates and stuff'?" That's someone describing a precise accounting of internal discussions that went on, and he was not supposed to share that shit out loud so he got caught.

How fucking dumb does Ubisoft think gamers are? Profoundly, apparently. The whole post is them trying to convince us how beautiful the game is (which is not the goddamn point), and then them saying nonsense like this:

No, that is not what gamers were wondering you gargantuan fucking liars.

I was going to post something, but Amir0x already posted it for me :P

I'm beginning to think there are no intelligent folks at Ubisoft in PR, marketing or game development...

The confected outrage over this is hilarious.

900p or 1080p, its a marginal difference. 90+ per cent of consumers wont give a damn, otherwise Ubisoft would push for the 'GAF standard' of 1080p 60fps.

This said, their attempt to roe back on very clear remarks about graphical parity are also hilarious.

B - but they didn't answer the point. If X1 AND PS4 are running the same game at 900p and 30 fps, they aren't pushing the PS4 to the most. Simple as that.
I want them answer to that. They're pretending they're both the same spec and we've known all too well for a while they're not.

Until they answer about that or they make a patch to push PS4 res to 1080p (or just whatever more it can support without being unstable or just new effects), pre order is staying cancelled.

No amount of PR would help Ubisoft in this case. PS4 gamers would still question exactly why this game was 900p in the end on their system. In a way, it is good that this hit ahead of the release so you can make a better decision regarding your money.

Thanks Ubisoft! You schmucks.

Seems that while crowds are essential to the game, the French language, or French accents for that matter, are not. Thus, we have Napoleon with a British accent
!

The bolded is crucial.

Yeah... ignorance is bliss, right ? Always going to be war, just design the best game for each system, its that simple.

Again, 900p hasn't been the center of the discussion. There's a lot more behind it, specially the "locked specs" part.

I felt like I was reading an advertisement rather than a blog post addressing a controversy. I don't think anyone is going to buy that it was a poor choice of words taken out of context. It sounds like he meant exactly what he said. Why?

If Microsoft told Blizzard lower than 1080p was "unacceptable" I very much believe a similar "conversation" could have occurred with Ubisoft.

at this point... i kinda don't care about what's being said.

Ubisoft... you have 3 weeks to create a 1080p patch for the ps4 version.

Would be great if someone had a PC build that more or less was just like PS4's CPU and GPU and ran the game no problem at 1080p and a locked 30fps.

You're missing the point (just like Ubisoft).

I accept that the one competent Ubisoft PR manager woke from a depressing bender, saw what he said originally and immediately flipped his shit.

Hahaha, precisely. Ubisoft probably has been yelling at him 24/7 since this broke. "How DARE you share the deals we make with our marketing partners. What the FUCK is wrong with you?"

This is a valid response, for me. I can accept that he misspoke.

How does someone misspeak

"We decided to lock them at the same specs to avoid all the debates and stuff'?"

into

"We’ve spent four years building the best game we could imagine. Why would we ever do anything to hold it back? I simply chose the wrong words when talking about the game’s resolution, and for that I’m sorry.”

Or some variation thereof about how they were pushing the systems power and can do no better (also a fucking lie, but whatever), but instead it comes out WE WANTED TO AVOID DEBATES?

Think about how different what these explanations both mean. Think about the vast gulfs of internal interpreting one has to do to go from one answer to the other. They are so fundamentally different from the other that's like saying "I meant to say that the sun is really hot when I said that I like chilli hot dogs on thursday."

Nobody misspeaks in that fashion unless you're some sort of weird A.I. robot that hasn't had all the bugs worked out yet. Or maybe some alien that does not understand the various permutations of human thought.

Preach.

They've already clearly given their reasoning already and are now trying to pretend its all one big misunderstanding. All of this backpedaling is just absurd and honestly insulting theater.

I genuinely would have respected them more if they just straight admitted they were doing parity, and that there were business considerations or partners to consider or something like that. Shit, just say "no comment" because we all know what that means in this industry.

He didn't misspeak. People don't "misspeak" that way, that's not the way human beings work unless they had a stroke mid-sentence or some shit. This PR blunder is so bad I genuinely might be done with Ubisoft altogether, unless they apologize and pin the game Beyond Good and Evil 2 to the end of the apology.

The bolded is crucial.

This company has no respect for our intelligence D:
This is the same company that is telling it's consumers that 30fps is better than 60 because it gives a more cinematic feeling... They think their audience are morons that will believe whatever is fed to them.

That fact that you call it pixel wars shows you actually have no clue what this whole discussion has been about from the beginning. Ok, we know you don't care but, did we really need to know? If this doesn't affect you why did you feel you needed to let us know?

Eh, you're right. Should've said nothing. After all, if I'm not going to join in with the pitchforks, why bother to share my opinion at all?

Anyway, UBI said what they said, it's up to the individual if they are gonna buy it not. Watchdogs had a similar downgrade controversy, but ended up breaking sales records.

Not quite the same due to api, custom divers, gddr5, console specific settings. You can't expect a pc to perform identically to a console of specific spec, especially since the pc game is a slightly different codebase

"If there was no adequate method for consumers to communicate amongst themselves, said consumers would not debate about such things"

Ubisoft to kill the internet by 2021

A scary thought just occurred...

What if the major publishers/developers start campaigning against net neutrality and demanded ISP to put forums like NeoGAF behind an extra tier paywall.

Yes I know. That sounds insane!

So they attempted to give an answer in that the game is intensive to the system due to all of the NPC's and the 1:1 scale of Paris.

But they still haven't answered something crucial that could stop debates right the fuck now: in what ways will the two versions differ? PS4 titles have been pretty consistent in having something 'better'. Whether it's the resolution, the fps, or shadows, something they could use out of the extra power has always come around. If you say right now how the PS4 version will differ to the Xbone version, there'd be a shitstorm but more contained. Unless I missed it on the first read, Ubi is just saying they got it to run at 900p with consistent 30 fps. That's nice and all, but can you do more for the console with more power? What about PC?

locked framerate sub-1080p game >>>>>>>>>> unlocked framerate 1080p game

I don't care what the resolution is, as long as its fun and plays without fps drops.

I think we can all agree that Money is a powerful thing. There is no way in hell they would ever admit " Ya we lowered it to the same as Xbox one because we are in a marketing deal with Microsoft and they said it was unacceptable to have PS4 1080p while ours is not."

Microsoft and it's money is awful for the gaming industry and COMPETITIION.

This pretty. Ubisoft knows most buyers won't care. And they just made that statement to appeal to the few that do.

It's just water off of their back.

You are very welcome to share your opinion on why this does not bother you at all. Which you didn't. What you did was basically say how superior you believe yourself to be because you are not bothered by such "little things", unlike plenty of us.
