Ubisoft issues totally convincing response to Assassin's Creed Unity's resolution

Really? What have I done wrong? And my question originally was pertaining to the argument over 900p for Unity- could you all tell Killzone multi wasn't 1920 by 1080p until you were all told? And did it make a difference?
I'm totally on board with the possibly they may be gimping the ps4 version to "stop" fanboy wars (this thread proves otherwise). I agree a million per cent that if it is indeed the case it is wrong (I did not buy Watch Dogs on PC due to that fact, and also that it was crap)... But if it hadn't been stated and the game came out, both versions at 900p, game is great and everyone's having fun, would we all care? I've shown many people games running at 900p (Ryse) and then showed them games running at 1080p (Killzone) and the general consensus was, both games looked amazing and not 1 person could tell the resolution difference. And they didn't care!

Most likely framerate stability, less aliasing, and more effects.

But this misses the point. Ubisoft did not say they capped the PS4 version for any of these reasons.
They said specifically it was to avoid 'debates and stuff'.

I don't want the version that runs on my console to be capped because they are afraid of upsetting Xbox One owners, Microsoft or anyone else. If it's capped for technical reasons then tell me what they are and I'll evaluate my position from there.

But they tell me they've capped it to avoid debates?
Well I've cancelled my pre order and ordered Dragon Age Inquisition and Lords of the Fallen instead.

Do you mean Inquisition? Because two has been out for a while.

Those pesky pixels moving around. If only they stayed still so we could have higher resolution.

Wait, we did that before.

Bullshots, that's what they're called.

Do you know why people complain about sub-native resolutions in the first place? It's upscaling artifacts/non 1:1 pixel mapping. Killzone MP renders 960x1080p but it is interlaced and then they fill in the gaps using information from the previous frame that gives a full 1080p image. That's why even if they traditionally rendering half the horizontal resolution, they don't get upscaling artifacts and hence why people thought they're looking at a full 1080p image.

Of course, that method can invariably fail in image quality but people still noticed a difference but they blamed shit FXAA.

Good man. I have to research Lords of the Fallen I know nothing about that game. But yes I agree with you 100%

Ultimately the main crux of the argument is being lost here. Ubi guy made a statement that basically said they had a target resolution and frame rate for both consoles irrespective of other factors (e.g. hardware capability).

Watch Dogs' Disrupt borrows heavily from Anvil for the open world aspect, but would always have had specific A.I coding. With that in mind, Watch Dogs ran at 900p on PS4 and 792p on Xbox One. Sure people were peeved it wasn't full 1080p but there was still a gap there in terms of what the hardware could push.

Bearing that in mind we can see that somehow they've managed to coax more performance out of the Xbox One (whether alone or with help from MS is for debate), but that same focus doesn't seem to have been given to the PS4. Also it clearly flies in the face of Morin's initial comments:

Clearly it's not just a number as these specs were picked specifically. If the Xbox One can see such a performance gain, then the PS4 should also be able to make those same gains (whether it's related to engine or platform optimisation).

Worse than this though, they haven't even elaborated on what the extra power will be consumed by. Will it have more elegant AA? Will there be better IQ in general......That's what people are pissed about. The PS4 still has considerable grunt over the Xbox One - what's it going to be doing? Many of us suspect nothing, which means there's more that can be pushed from the PS4.

I said I wouldn't pick up Black Flag and I eventually did like an idiot. I found it boring so promised to wait for some stuff of Unity before making a decision. The setting is amazing, love it. It still looks like the same stale gameplay though with a few bells and whistles so stuff like this, as well as an upcoming glut of games makes it easier to pass on. I suspect a lot of people are in the same boat. And in 6 months, like an idiot I'll probably still try/buy Unity as well but not playing full whack for it and certainly lowered itself in the 'must pre-order' list.

Pretty much this.

So he says he misspoke or chose the wrong words or whatever. How about telling us what you did mean to say then? What he said before was pretty clearcut. I dont see where he could have misspoke.

It's pretty much unconfirmed but considering that in almost every situation where the res and framerate targets were the same but the ps4 version was better it's safe to assume that the same will happen with Unity.

My whole point was that it still looks incredible even after we found out it wasn't full 1080p. I do get snarky when (if) certain devs hold back on games for no reason worth justifying (Watch Dogs on PC and many PC games for that matter).

Plenty of people complained about Killzone multi being blurry compared to the single player campaign. It was assumed to be some poor anti-aliasing implementation since we were told it was 1080p. Not to dismiss your point, but just clearing that up.

Bringing up killzone does shit all to prove your point. Find a better example next time.

Holy crap! That's the argument? Destiny was cross gen so didn't look good, therefore parity between ps4 and xbone?! Seriously? Destiny looks amazing! And looks equally as good on Xbone as it does on ps4. Some devs can code well on Xbone. Just look at the beautiful horizon 2. Open world and still looks as good, if not better than DriveClub.

Hmm Horizon is fun as hell but graphically . https://fbcdn-video-i-a.akamaihd.ne..._=1413086633_8e6e5ee6a63df82654abe04b364605d7 looks better everywhere outside of photo mode that is.
On topic I will be skipping assassins creed parity this year. Best to vote with my wallet .
